It was known for its high rate of fire and large magazine capacity: the standard drum magazine held 71 rounds. In 1944, some examples were fitted with the experimental Liekkinetin M/44 underbarrel flamethrower, which turned the Suomi into even more of an effective weapon for assaulting and clearing buildings — the flamethrower allowed soldiers to suppress enemy positions and intimidate opponents at close range.
