- Patch 1.7.6 - 3 April 2026
Hello, here is a quick small patch to address a few issues I've seen crop up over the last couple months. The biggest thing is a fix to some incorrect spawn logic which could cause certain encounters to spawn at the center of a location which would often be inside an island. This also includes a fix for displaying proper keyboard glyphs when using an alternate keyboard layout. Thanks to members of the sail forth discord for reporting this! Bugfix: Fix cases where some quest content could spawn inside islands, particularly Bonnibel and Kerblapp during the bibblebait quest Bugfix: Disable expiration timer on intro spyglass tutorial to avoid missing it Bugfix: Properly handle alternate keyboard layouts when displaying keyboard glyphs As always, thanks for playing my game, and Gorbspeed!
- Patch 1.7.5 - 21 February 2026
Hi all, here's the latest patch with a couple important fixes, along with some smaller bugfixes. This should be hitting the rest of the platforms fairly soon as well! Thanks for your continued support and bug reports to the game, it's all very helpful! 1.7.5Bugfix: Fix potential softlocks in New Game Plus related to the harpoon, the researcher, and MargaBugfix: Fix potential softlock in Kreb battle where it can become invincible if attacked at a specific point of its animationBugfix: Fix kreb shell armor stat not being properly appliedBugfix: Fix case where the spyglass tutorial could be uncompletable if the player waits long enoughBugfix: Fix cases where target shooting targets could end up underwater or in the wrong positionBugfix: Fix error related to the Pretty Good FishBugfix: Prevent attempting to equip mods that are already equipped, which could result in duplicate items being sp…
- Croaker Update Hotfix - 19 January 2026
Hey everyone, happy to see ya'll enjoying the new Croaker update! This is a quick hotfix in response to a report of an old save failing to load. If you experienced a black screen when selecting your save but a new save loaded fine, this is likely the fix! - Fix case where a save in the Eclipside arc might fail to load Note I'm not bumping the in-game version number for this tiny fix, will wait for a few more fixes before doing that!
- Battle for Croaker Command Update is Now Available! - 16 January 2026
Welcome to the Battle for Croaker Command update! This huge update brings a new Croaker quest and faction ship, new features, tons of bug fixes, and various other improvements and content. Bug reporting If you find a bug you can report it directly from the game, using the 'Feedback' option found in the pause menu. This is helpful for me as it includes a copy of your save file, the log, and a screenshot which makes it much easier for me to find and fix the bug. Croaker Expansion A new quest for the Croakers now begins shortly after defeating the boss in Autumn Isles (along with completing either the Green Ruins or Frigid Sea). The quest involves building a Command Center for the Croakers and defending it against an assault from the Tekk Clan, who have developed a new weapon. Croaker Flagship The Croaker Flagship is a new vessel acquirable via the added quest line. It has frog foot paddle…
- Update 4 Open Beta - 30 December 2025
Hi everyone, the next update is nearly ready and so I'm making it available early in the usual public preview branch on Steam. This update adds a bunch of things, including a new Croaker quest line and a sort of new game plus option that allows you to play through the campaign again with your end-game stuff. This is compatible with old saves, and should be mostly portable back to the previous version of the game if you switch off the beta though, any new items or boats that you acquired would be lost. A big thank you to everyone who has continued to play and engage with the game! We've just hit 3 years since the release and it's been really fun to see everyone enjoying it! Joining the beta If you have the game on Steam and would like to opt-in to the beta, you can do so by right-clicking the game in your Library, selecting Properties > Betas, and choosing `public_preview` from the dropd…
- Patch 1.6.8 - 1 December 2025
Ahoy! Here's another very small patch, with rather large implications. I recently discovered a quite annoying bug in the game which meant that the UI indicating the best way to adjust your sails was actually wrong. In certain cases, this could mean that if you followed the UI hints to adjust your sails or used the Auto Sail accessibility option you'd end up moving quite a bit slower than you could have been. This was most apparent when sailing on a cross wind, where the UI would recommend sailing fully close-hauled when in reality the best trim would be about halfway, AKA a beam or broad reach. I also slightly tweaked the UI for the bar, adding some small indicators which make the best trim position much more easily readable, especially if you have trouble distinguishing red and green colors. 1.6.8Bugfix: Fix desired sheet length calculation for boats to be more accurate for all points…
- Patch 1.6.7 - 8 October 2025
Hi! This is a small bugfix patch which also includes a hotfix from Unity to address a recently discovered security exploit in their engine. As part of applying the hotfix, I've also updated the Unity engine by several major versions which may yield minor performance gains. In addition to the bugfix, after seeing a few comments about it I've decided to slightly increase the Proa's top speed to better fit its role as the fastest ship on the Deepblue. 1.6.7 Change: Increased Proa's max speed up to 15. Bugfix: Fix for a case where the 4th Maelstrom boss encounter might not spawn. If you have experienced difficulty in finding the 4th boss, it should now spawn correctly for you once an in-game day passes and the appropriate quests have been completed. I really appreciate everyone continuing to play and give feedback! I know the updates have slowed down, which is due to me taking the necessary…
- Patch 1.6.6a - 6 March 2025
Hello, this is just a tiny patch that does not change the version number in order to sync with the 1.6.6 that is going out to consoles and epic today. The biggest thing is making the ship shape shop not attack you when you have negative civilian standing. It was kind of fun but was an accident initially, and I think it is too confusing for many players. Also I think thematically the slug merchants wouldn't get involved in your conflict and would simply prefer to take your Boat Parts 😄 1.6.6a Improvement: Many performance improvements across the board, particularly with large numbers of boats on screen Bugfix: The Ship Shape Shop is now considered a neutral entity and will not attack when you have negative standing with civilians Thank you for playing and fair winds to you!
- Patch 1.6.6 - 24 December 2024
Hello, here's a quick Christmas patch with some fixes and tweaks! This includes a couple changes that should hopefully address some issues people have encountered with the open world. The first one is the introduction of a timed auto save feature. An unintended side-effect of the new Deep Blue open ocean was that saving occurred far less frequently as it was only triggered upon entering a location. This meant it was possible to spend a bunch of time in the open ocean without saving, and if you were sunk you could lose a lot of progress. To address this I'm adding a 5 minute auto save timer which will save when out of combat. The second thing is more subtle and if it works right shouldn't even be noticeable. During a recent play session in a new game I noticed that it was possible to not encounter any NPC boats for quite a while if you just happened to not cross paths with them as they w…
- Patch 1.6.5 - 13 November 2024
Hi, glad to see people enjoying the Before the Wind update! I got a couple bug reports and some feedback and have made some small changes to address these. 1.6.5 Improvement: Add shell spells to the Moontide Shell Shop for controlling the weather. Useful for sailors hunting those last few fish! Improvement: Lightkeepers at the Lighthouse will now give directions to find the Maelstrom if you have not found it yet. Improvement: More sailor types can be rescued from the Wormkin cages Bugfix: Fix case where certain loadouts would have a broken visual at a distance Thanks to everyone for playing and following along with the game! It was really nice to see all the positive comments about 1.6 😊
- Sail Forth 1.6 - Before the Wind - 7 November 2024
1.6: Before the Wind Hello, it's been a while, but I'm happy to formally release the 1.6.0 update to Sail Forth, which I'm calling Before the Wind! This update contains a wide variety of features and improvements that are focused around both responding to community feedback and better integrating the recently added open world design with the rest of the game. The key new features are a combined and improved map screen, a new spyglass item, persistent NPC ships which inhabit the world, and an expanded world map + new bosses for the Maelstrom DLC. World Map The world map has been changed and improved significantly. The old Area Map and World Map items on the Radial Menu have been combined into a single Map which can be zoomed in and out of. You can fast travel when zoomed out in the map, and view nearby islands or points of interest when zoomed in. Map markers can now be viewed and placed…
- Update 3 Open Beta - 6 May 2024
Hi everyone, I've been working on a pretty large update to the game which includes quite a bit of stuff, and I think it's about time to make it available in the experimental branch for testing. It still has a ways to go so I expect it to remain in the preview branch for a while longer while I bug fix and finish additional content not yet enabled in this release. The biggest changes so far are combining the world/local map into 1 radial menu item, the addition of the spyglass, and the world entity system. The map now shows a wind field to help plan your sailing routes better, this will shift over the course of in-game days! The spyglass is obtained during the tutorial and is used to spot distant locations and ships. The entity system allows for fully persistent AI boats that travel around the world in the same way you do, and can be encountered out in the Deepblue or within locations. Th…
- Patch 1.5.8 - 8 February 2024
Hello! I'm back from a trip and getting back into work on Sail Forth. This patch fixes a few bugs and also contains some nice quality of life improvements to crew management. Some of you are apparently racking up hundreds of sailors below deck, and managing this screen plus finding the sailor you want to crew a boat starts to get a bit difficult. This update adds some filtering options to the below deck screen so you can filter to *just* Skull Clan for example. This also includes a faster way to fill a boat with sailors via the new 'fill crew' option in the crew management screen, which uses the same filtering options to enable quickly crewing a boat with a particular sailor type. 1.5.8 Improvement: Add a tab to crew inventory screen for filtering sailors by type, helpful when dealing with large numbers of sailors below deck Improvement: Add “Fill Crew” with type selector option to crew…
- Patch 1.5.7 - 21 January 2024
Ahoy! This is another small patch which fixes one *big* thing I came across in my own testing, plus a few smaller tweaks and fixes to things I've seen reported. This does include one new feature, which is that boats can now turn (slowly) in place! This uses the boats oars (and rowing stats) to turn when your speed is set to 0 and you turn the helm. It shouldn't be fast enough to significantly change any tactics but it is quite helpful if you're in a tight spot and want to maneuver your way out of it. I've historically been kind of against this as it felt like it might be a little too 'arcadey' but I've been convinced that it does make sense and I think the way it's implemented still feels realistic and maintains the weight of the boats. Let me know what you think! 1.5.7 Fix a major bug that caused locations with DLC content in them to have incorrect boundaries when the DLC is not instal…
- Patch 1.5.6 - 19 January 2024
Greetings! This is a small bug fix patch to smooth out a few issues I've come across and seen reported. 1.5.6 Fixed some cases where the map would sometimes freeze or display islands incorrectly Fixed a bug where the Angler Emporium liberation battle would sometimes fail to register as complete Fix an error that could occur when talking to Picklepea again after completing the Frogghammer battle Fix an edge case where meeting the Moontide for the first time at Barnacle Base would result in a broken game state Fix Shell Shop requiring the shop to be re-opened for each purchase Potentially fix an edge case where the final boss would not progress to the next phase after taking damage Add some checks to re-unlock key achievements when appropriate, if they were somehow missed previously Fix some cases in late game where a cinematic teleporting the player to a new location might behave strange…
- Patch 1.5.5 - 16 January 2024
Ahoy! This update features a revision to the Skull Summoning Circle encounter, along with numerous bug fixes. The game has now been downloaded several million times(!) on Epic due to the free week which as you can imagine has resulted in many new issues being found! 1.5.5 Revised the design of the Skull Summoning Circle: Waves are now triggered one at a time, and there are torches surrounding each Skull which are destroyed as each wave is defeated. The state is saved for each location, so you can return whenever you like to continue the challenge. Fix cases where enemy waves would spawn at the wrong time during Skull Clan summoning encounter Captains of ships should no longer go down with the ship, despite the popular saying. This should make assigning a crew member as Captain essentially a way to keep them alive forever, as long as you are diligent about picking them back up out of the…
