EA have announced they're "pausing" development of any future rally racers, including the filth-speckled WRC and Dirt series. Many rally games have historically been made by the now EA-owned studio Codemasters, a crowd of long-time motorsports specialists who've been soiling wheel arches as far back as Colin McCrae Rally for the first PlayStation. Well, no more, say the big wigs. The games have "reached the end of the road", they say. - Deep Rock Galactic to get new PS5 features ahead of PlayStation Plus launch - 31 December 2021
Deep Rock Galactic will be debuting on PlayStation Plus next month and gracing Sony’s consoles for the first time, and with it some exclusive features for PS5 players revolving around the DualSense controller’s functionality. Already a success on PC and Xbox, the PS5 version will feature some niceties that only the DualSense controller can provide. The touchpad can be used to control the Terrain Scanner, and the built-in speaker will be used to have characters tell you orders as if you’re talking to them via radio. The game will also arrive on PS4, albeit minus the DualSense features. The new crop of PlayStation Plus game will be available on January 4, and Deep Rock Galactic will be joined by Persona 5 Strikers and Dirt 5 . The first few games available in January’s PlayStation Plus program have been announced , and they’re some pretty good ones to boot. Persona 5 Strikers, Dirt 5, and Deep Rock Galactic will be joining the subscription service in the first part of January. Persona 5 Strikers is essentially a Dynasty Warriors-type game, except with a Persona 5 veneer. A popular trend these days with games like Hyrule Warriors and Persona 5 Strikers, the Dynasty Warriors formula tends to be better received by critics when it isn’t in an actual Dynasty Warriors game. These games are hack-and-slash fests, and Persona 5 Strikers isn’t an exception . Dirt 5 is an offroad rally racer that our review found pushes the series further into arcade racer territory. A job listing posted by EA has revealed that Codemasters is hiring a development manager for its next project, billed as "the most ambitious and biggest game that Codemasters has made in over a decade”. The job ad, picked up by Exputer , notes that the developer is currently working on another game now that Dirt 5 is out the door and hints that it's going to a big, triple-A project. Codemasters is staffing up for the job in a pretty significant way, and currently has no fewer than 30 vacancies on its site – some for the UK office, and some based in Malaysia. Read more
