- Anchor - Big FAQ - 8 June 2026
Anchor is a large-scale underwater survival game. A nuclear holocaust drove what was left of humanity into the sea, and you wake as part of a race genetically engineered to live there, in a stretch of ocean called The Anchor. From there it's build, craft, defend and survive across a 16km² open world, with 150+ players sharing one persistent server that keeps evolving even while you're offline. The catch is that everything down there wants what you have. Other players can raid your base while you sleep, and the sharks follow the blood. Play it hardcore on a full server, or take on the ocean itself in solo or co-op.Since the announcement we've been asked a lot of questions. Here are the ones that come up the most. If yours isn't here, drop it in the comments and we'll do our best to reply asap. How is it different from Subnautica? The underwater setting is where the similarity ends. Subnauti…
- Hunting in Anchor - 24 May 2026
The goal for Anchor's ocean is ambitious - we want it to feel alive. Not a theme park. Not a shooting gallery. A real ocean, as much as we can make one.Animals are a big part of that. Fish, mammals, predators, prey, movement, death, reactions, ragdolls, all of it is being worked on. Here is a very WIP video of hunting and harvesting resources:We have had some great questions about this on X and elsewhere, so let's talk about how we approach it. A Living OceanWe're gearing up for a big development push on animal behavior in the upcoming weeks and months, and it's something we'll keep building on long after. Our plans include predators and prey, animal families, curious creatures, dangerous hunters, animals that flee from you, and animals that hunt you down. The ocean in Anchor is meant to be lived in. You can observe, interact, admire. You can spend a ton of time just watching dolphins or…

After a nuclear disaster wiped out humanity, a genetically modified race of aquatic humans was activated to start over. That's you. You wake up in the chaos with nothing, and you build from there. You explore the ocean, gather resources, craft tools and weapons, and build a base. But you're not alone down there. Up to 150+ players share a persistent 16km² world, and every one of them is a potential threat. Bases get raided, alliances break, and the ocean itself is hunting you.The ocean in Anchor is living and breathing. Predators hunt prey. Whales, dolphins and other creatures go about their lives. You can observe it, interact with it, and admire it.It's a pure survival game. Cruel at times, beautiful at others. If this sounds li…
- Charting the Deep: Ingame Map - 16 May 2026
In our last post we talked about pipes, how they act as physical breadcrumbs through the dark. But pipes just give you two directions to follow. They don't tell you what's out there, or how far you've gone. That's where the map comes in.Getting a MapThe map is a craftable item. You won't start with one. Early on, you're navigating blind, relying on pipes, landmarks, and gut instinct.Once you craft it, the map becomes a handheld item you pull up like any other tool. Aim down sights to zoom in, and drag to pan around.Fog of WarThe map doesn't show you the whole world. It starts almost entirely dark. As you explore, a circle around you reveals the terrain, your pipe networks, and points of interest. Move somewhere new and the fog clears permanently. Stay in your base and the map only shows what you already know. This means two players on the same server will have completely different maps d…
- Pipe Systems and Navigation - 9 February 2026
How do you find your way in an underwater environment? One of the core challenges of an underwater survival game is navigation. You cannot climb a mountain and look around to figure out where you are. Underwater visibility simply does not allow it.Traditional survival games solve this with roads and monuments scattered across the world. Players use these as reference points to orient themselves without needing a map. So how do we solve this underwater? This is where our pipe system comes in.Anchor is the area where a new race of aquatic humans lives. It was prepared by a previous civilization to support life and the rebuilding of society. They planted genetically modified plants, placed monuments, and built infrastructure, including a network of pipes that transfer power to these monuments. These pipes are Anchor’s “roads”.If you swim for a while, you will eventually find a pipe. Follow it…

- Anchor Emerges - 27 October 2025
Hey everyone! Seven years ago, we wanted to make this game. We grew, learned and waited for the moment to give it a go. About a year ago, we finally started development. And now - the reveal moment is finally here. Anchor. An underwater PvP survival game we always wanted to play. If there is one thing to be said about Anchor, it’s that it needs to be a community driven game, like all the great ones in the genre. COMMUNITY That’s why we want to invite everyone to join our Discord and help us shape both the game and the community. We need your experience and your creativity to help guide what Anchor becomes. ALPHA SIGNUPSOne thing we are also starting today, is collecting alpha signups. We don't have a date for it yet, but it should surely be some time during next year. Sign up at playanchor.com to get notified when alpha invites go out. If you haven't watched it yet, make sure to watch o…
