- How hard is it to make your video game dog pettable? - 22 January 2021
Dogs. We all love to pet them. And in the game. And thanks to the Twitter account Can You Pet The Dog? , we know where to find them. Pettable dogs where they weren’t before can make gaming news . But of course, “can you pet the dog?” is only one question. “ Why can you pet the dog?” is quite another. I spoke to some indie developers about their experiences creating the pettable dogs in question, alongside Tristan Cooper, the curator of the Can You Pet The Dog? account, which is now at nearly half million followers. - Lair of the Clockwork God review - platform meets adventure with hilarious consequences - 7 September 2020
Heh, I'm still smiling thinking about Lair of the Clockwork God. It's so cheeky. I love how it does everything in service of a good joke. It's even prepared to let you get the wrong idea about something so it can pull an 'a-ha!' moment on you later on. I'd been planning to tell the game off for something in the review until I realised it had all been a big joke and I felt silly. What a wonderful long con. I've never seen a game do it, not like that, nor have I seen a game bundle a separate game, a prequel, that you won't understand the use of until you're about half-way through the main game. It's inspired. Let's recap a bit. Lair of the Clockwork God belongs to the Ben and Dan series, not that you need to be in any way aware of it to play and enjoy this. The previous games were Ben There, Dan That! and Time Gentleman, Please! from about 10 years ago. They're point-and-click adventure g…
- v1.017 NOW LIVE! - 9 June 2020
Hello there! Delighted to announce I've been secretly storing up all the bugs that got reported over the last couple of months for one big boring update. With this, the game is now (as far as I'm aware) BUG FREE again so if you're playing it and you're like "hey, hang on a second, THIS IS A BUG!" it means you're very clever and please email full details to [email protected] asap so I can fix it. DISCLAIMER: That said, I have not yet fixed the one where Dan clips into the floor if you jump onto Ben's head. It's something to do with the physics. Will have another look at it asap. Here's the full list of changes: - Hopefully fixed an issue where the game could hang when you're mopping a floor - Added a custom control map for SwitchPro controllers, which didn't play nice natively - Teleporting while shifting gravity should no longer cause things to stay wibbly. - Teleporting at an inopp…

Hello! I'm aware it's been a few weeks since the last update - bugs are now coming in so infrequently that daily updates no longer really make sense, so I'm saving them all up for larger patches. - Linux version now has a 64-bit version available - Fixed an issue where skipping Splash screens with a gamepad caused the 'Save warting' dialogue to be missed - Fixed missing characters in the dyslexic-friendly font option - Accessing the top bit of a boat is now way easier - Fixed an issue where starting a conversation the instant a lift started to move caused Camera Issues - Fixed some potentially-sticky ice - Fixed some extraordinarily minor typos As always, if you find a bug please let me know at [email protected], rather than leaving messages in places I might not see them. If you've enjoyed Lair of the Clockwrok God but haven't yet REVIEWED it on Steam, please please do take a secon…
- v1.014 Now Live! - 11 March 2020
There's now so few bugs in the game the patch notes are getting silly: - Fixed a weird Linux bug that could cause the game to open at a resolution of 1x1, which APPARENTLY is too small - Once you've completed the game but BEFORE you've started a new one, pressing Back on the Chapter Select screen no longer gets confused. As always if anything has gone WRONG with this build, because I'm an idiot, you can rollback to a previous version by opting into the Beta branch called "rollback". PLEASE LEAVE A STEAM REVIEW if you played the game. Steam reviews feed an algorithm, the algorithm gets me views, and views get me sales, which I need. Thank you!
- v1.013 Now Live - 9 March 2020
- Added Platforming Assist slider - Minor bug fixes This update adds a SUPER NEAT Platforming Assist slider, which tweaks a few platforming settings to suit your needs, including: - Dan's 'wallgrab' time, giving you more time to react - Dan's 'wallslide' speed - Slows down certain tile types (blinking tiles, collapsible tiles, lasers etc) - Removes some hazards entirely If you're finding the platforming too much of a challenge, or you're just not particularly interested in 'that side' of the game, check it out. This feature is in BETA, so may break things. If it does, or if there's something you want added to the slider, let me know: [email protected] As always if anything has gone WRONG with this build, because I'm an idiot, you can rollback to a previous version by opting into the Beta branch called "rollback". PLEASE LEAVE A STEAM REVIEW if you played the game. Steam reviews feed…
- v1.012 Now Live! - 6 March 2020
It's been a couple of days wince the last update. I've been saving them up for one BIG HUGE FIX: - Fixed a typo, that's the level we're down to now. - Fixed a dialogue option that should have been switched off, but wasn't - Fixed an issue where showing Dan a bra would cause Ben to never stop looking - Fixed an issue where killing Ben would make everything go black - Fixed Ben being unable to teleport in Chapter 11, if running from a load - Fixed Ben sliding along weirdly, using his nose to drag himself painfully across the floor if he dies - Flipping a switch twice and then dying no longer gets you stuck in an impossible situation - De-subtled a colour-based puzzle - Amalgamated some controls IMPORTANT: based on player feedback PUSH and CYCLE HOTSPOT now share a key (default X on a gamepad) If you're in the middle of your game, this change may prove confusing! The old button still works…

- Wot I Think: Lair Of The Clockwork God - 26 February 2020
Developer: Size Five Games Publisher: Size Five Games Release: Out now On: Windows From: Steam Price: 14/ 15/$18 In the streets of a not so distant future, between the public onanism booth, and the bouncer employed ironically by a nightclub’s post-millennial owners, stands an enormous phone display encased in concrete. Squint into the solar flare brightness of its 20-foot screen, and you can just about make out some of the messages as they scroll by. Local youths are voting on whether Ben and Dan, Lair Of The Clockwork God ‘s dual protagonists, should be let into the club: #YE or #NA? “@dan total dinosore – upgrad yur vesties,” advises one. “Nice historhythm gramps,” chides another. “Paleofoot much?” The polls are in, and they’re predicting an emphatic #NA. Lair Of The Clockwork God is a game about getting older: the bewilderme…
