A big update to Celtreos! Major Artwork ImprovementsA huge number of changes to game artwork have been made, mostly large but some small as well. All space backgrounds have improved, with brand new planet artwork and the introduction of some nebula effects (this also is visible in things like the introductory story scene). The city background of “Colony Evacuation” is completely new, with more layers, animation and detail.Certain enemies have new artwork, such as those in “Dimensional Rift”.Gameplay UpdatesThere have been a variety of small animation improvements in the game, and tweaks to sound volumes also (e.g. explosion sounds are slightly louder). Two large-ship enemies that fire lasers now fire a new type of laser: it is longer, faster, and has its own sound effect.New Minimum OS VersionAs Apple continues to make it difficult to support older OS versions, as of 2.4 Celtreos now requi…

A big update to Celtreos! 3D EffectsThere has been a huge focus on improving 3D effects and layering in backgrounds, with some accompanying performance tweaks. This is most noticeable in stages with walls or large background objects like cave rocks. Basically, things that used to look very flat will now have significant depth. As you approach and go beyond things like walls and tunnels, there is a new sense of “passing by” them in 3D.Song UpdatesThe following songs have been enhanced: “Acquisition”, “Establishment” and “Portension”.Gameplay UpdatesSeveral weapons have been tweaked to make the game play better. For example, a few projectiles seemed too slow and were sped up; minor changes to improve visibility of weapons like Weaver; and adjustments to attack power in a few cases.A number of in-game animations and effects have been tweaked, as well as some in-game artwork.
- Updated to 2.1 - 4 February 2026
The next Celtreos patch is live! New Ship TypesThree new ship types have been added: Rose Raptor, Micro and Nebula X-87. This brings the total number of ships to 10! The differences between the 10 ships are mostly cosmetic; having said that, the “hit box” definitely varies between ships and the placement of weapons can slightly alter how projectiles are fired.Artwork ImprovementsMany enemies and especially bosses have been tweaked in this update, and other minor changes to artwork have been made as well.UI ImprovementsOn the Mac there is a new top-level Game menu offering short-cuts to start games in Normal or Quick mode (similar to the mobile version). There are also further improvements to certain buttons, aimed at making key bindings as easy to use as possible, e.g. tabbing between groups of controls more quickly and having direct keys for more actions.
- Updated to 2.0 - 17 December 2025
A big update to Celtreos! UI UpdatesThere are new bidirectional rocker buttons in several panels, typically as “-/+” buttons. These take up less space but also consolidate focus so it is more efficient to traverse controls using game controllers or the keyboard. In most cases these new buttons enable moving in multiple directions through settings that previously could only be traversed one-way!Certain panels now support 3-way focus so that a single focus-switch action allows 3 different buttons to be simultaneously used. For example, it is now possible to focus all volume controls at once and have easy access to the ON/OFF switch, the “-” decrementing button and the “+” incrementing button, using different game controller buttons or keyboard keys.Game controllers now require the use of lower triggers such as R2 when they previously used other buttons (e.g. action buttons often used “A”…

A big update to Celtreos! New “Lancer” WeaponA new weapon “Lancer” has been added to the Devastator Series, and it can also be used in custom arrays. This means that the 5 main Series now all have unique opposing-movement weapons (instead of Magnetic Mine being present in two of them). This weapon is fast, shoots primarily in the opposite direction that you move your ship, and it will start to seek enemies after a short time.UI UpdatesA number of improvements to UI elements have been made, including a tweaked mouse-hover effect, and checkbox labels are now focusable/clickable and can activate their associated setting. Various web-link-style buttons work better than before, and a minor French localization issue was fixed in one of them.A water-rippling warp animation has been added to the light reflections in the “Last Stand” stage. The recently-added Relative Touch Controls setting no lon…

The next Celtreos patch is live! New Setting “Relative Touch Controls”On mobile, this setting changes the behavior of touches so that the initial touch is ignored and any subsequent finger movements are relative to that point. This emulates the behavior of some other games, which may be more familiar for some people.Performance ImprovementsTweaks to in-game performance continue, to try to achieve the best possible frame rates!Other TweaksFixed a localization issue that could cause text to overrun in the trophy display. Minor updates to the app icon. Minor tweaks to certain text spacing in the UI, as well as shadow effects. Minor changes to a couple of in-game animations.
- Updated to 1.97 - 20 October 2025
The next Celtreos patch is live! New Setting “Quick Game”This setting shortens every stage of the game (e.g. by removing certain wall sections and enemy spawns), for quicker play-throughs! Note that if you use this mode, some Achievements and scoring objectives may be harder to obtain. On mobile, this setting can also be toggled by new short-cut commands in the menu attached to the game’s home screen icon.More Dynamic TextAlthough version 1.96 added support in the vast majority of the game for multiple text sizes, version 1.97 expands this even more. Buttons, Achievement text and other in-game status text will now respect your small/normal/large text size preference.Bug FixesFixed a bug that could cause invincibility to last for longer than intended. Minor tweaks to a few animations. Fixed cases where music would restart from the beginning when the same song was already playing, e.g. if…

A big update to Celtreos! UI Accessibility Updates“Celtreos” now supports multiple text sizes: in the option screens, in story pages, and in the score display during the game. This can also affect layout, e.g. story pages can be arranged differently to suit the new text size or some UI text labels may wrap to multiple lines.By default, this will mirror your system-wide Accessibility settings. Note that system settings are more granular; although you can adjust a slider to a variety of text sizes, Celtreos will only adapt to small, medium or large depending on where the slider is.Since the Mac does not yet provide Accessibility settings on a per-app basis (except for Apple apps), “Celtreos” has a new View menu with items to override text size for Celtreos itself. You can choose to keep mirroring the system-wide setting, or override with Small, Normal or Large. When the setting is changed,…

The next Celtreos patch is live! Performance ImprovementsCertain animated backgrounds are disabled on the lowest graphics setting. Minor changes to rotation effects for better performance during two boss fights. On mobile versions of the game, fixed a couple of over-rendered UI elements that were dragging game performance.New Setting “No Weapon Mount Items”This setting prevents items from spawning that could swap out the current weapon mount, meaning that your initial mount setting persists for the entire game. Enabling this option means you can no longer strategically choose different mounts for different scenarios but it may also reduce frustration if you happened to swap to a less-helpful mount at some point in the game.Artwork and Animation ImprovementsCertain enemy projectiles have slightly changed. The “Orbital Defense” boss has slightly more armor. The “Lightning” effect now look…

A big update to Celtreos! Music UpdatesMany songs have been tweaked, including: Evasion, Mystery, Portension, Opposition, Trepidation, Diminution and Establishment.Gameplay UpdatesThere is a new weapon mount type, “Reverse V”! Similar to “Crossover” but focused on the reverse angle with a wider expanse, this moves your weapons fire along a rotated V path to cover primarily the area behind your ship.Minor tweaks to certain stage content, such as “Jungle Cave” and “Shipyard Attack”.PerformanceGeneral improvements to game responsiveness in certain situations.
- Updated to 1.93 - 17 June 2025
The next Celtreos patch is live! Performance ImprovementsFixed a case where the frame rate could struggle significantly if the system was rapidly refreshing the screen while many sound effects were playing.Artwork ImprovementsMore artwork tweaks have been made to certain ships and background elements.
- Updated to 1.92 - 15 May 2025
The next Celtreos patch is live! New Setting “No Negative Items” This new setting prevents all negative items from spawning in the game, which tends to make the game significantly easier to play. (This includes all red-orb items like slow-down, destroy-weapon, reduce-range, reduce-power, zero-score, etc.) Artwork Improvements More artwork tweaks have been made, mostly noticeable on the title screen and in the first stage, “Colony Evacuation”. Bug Fixes A stage-related trophy was accidentally awarded by starting any game. While this trophy will not be deleted as part of the fix, for new owners of the game it will now trigger under the correct conditions. Also, while not strictly a bug, it could be confusing if external audio (such as Apple Music) was preventing music selections during the game so new explanatory text appears when game music is disabled.
- Updated to 1.91 - 8 March 2025
The next Celtreos patch is live! Improved Performance Game physics and other explosion effects have been modified to perform better in some situations. Hit-Box Changes Each of the 7 player ships has had its hit-box reevaluated to be slightly more accurate for the shape of the ship, and noticeably smaller in normal difficulty. The hit-box area is also slightly larger when Hard difficulty is enabled (not bigger than before though). Music Updates The “Decoration”, “Acquisition” and “Evacuation” songs have all been improved slightly.
- Updated to 1.90 - 27 January 2025
A big update to Celtreos! New “Lateral” Weapon A 5th sideways-class weapon, “Lateral”, has been added to the Plasma Series (and can be used in custom weapon arrays). This fires modules above and below your ship that damage anything they touch, while also periodically firing forward or backward from the current locations of the modules. Furthermore, this weapon has 5 variations because it fires your default-class weapon (Beam, Gun, Laser, Ring or Rocket)! Some variants, like Beam, can produce substantially different covering fire. New XP×4 Item Similar to existing XP×2 but this item quadruples accumulated experience points for the current weapon. It does not last long! Minor Gameplay Updates Power-ups now “stack” on the left side to an extent, if you pick up several of them at once. The Razor weapon has been slightly modified to have a tighter firing range. A problem with the physics of…

A big update to Celtreos! Enhancements to “Jungle Cave” The tree/wood artwork in this stage is now significantly more detailed. Also, foreground logs that are obstacles are brighter so they are easier to avoid. The stage layout has been tweaked in a few places. Clouds You Can Shoot In the “Dark Nebula” and “Orbital Defense” stages, certain clouds are now mostly opaque and can hide enemies and items, yet they are also vulnerable to weapons fire. If you shoot at these clouds, you will see hit marks and they will eventually fade away to reveal what is in them. Be careful, as hazards are active in the clouds whether you can see them or not! Soundtrack Improvements Certain songs have been tweaked, including “Establishment”, “Evacuation” and “Acquisition”. Some noticeable artwork upgrades in the “Jungle Cave” stage. Certain clouds can now be destroyed to reveal items in “Dark Nebula” and “Orb…

The next Celtreos patch is live! Improved Performance The game is now better at responding in high-congestion areas, such as stages with lots of walls or enemies. Also, scrolling up or down is now more responsive so it is easier to move around. Opposing-Movement Weapon Updates All weapons in the opposing-movement class (“Tail Whip”, “Star Strike”, “Sweeper” and “Magnet Mine”) as well as effects that rotate (such as Prism and Barrier) now adapt to movement in more intuitive ways. It should be much easier to orient them in the way that you want. Minor Gameplay Tweaks Certain stages have had their content slightly updated, such as “Dark Nebula”. Also, the double-XP power-up now lasts slightly longer.
- Updated to 1.87 - 11 October 2024
The next Celtreos patch is live! New and Updated Songs The main options screen song is brand new (titled “Establishment”)! Also, improvements to a few other songs, including “Opposition”, “Portension”, “Mystery” and “Excursion”.
- Updated to 1.86 - 19 September 2024
A big update to Celtreos! New Story Artwork The introduction to the game now shows a few background pictures while the story text scrolls by. General Artwork and Animation Improvements Several effects have been tweaked, such as explosions and power-ups. Certain enemies are now more animated. In many pieces of artwork (especially those with gradient colors) the quality has increased. The XP display in-game has been slightly improved. Updated “Alien Ocean” Stage The “Navigation” song has been refined further. Also, background artwork for this stage has been enhanced in various places. An enemy in this stage has been modified to emit “bouncing” projectiles in many directions, instead of its previous laser attack. These projectiles are now also emitted during certain boss fights! Arrow Keys The left, right, up and down arrow keys can now be used for keyboard input (with the same effects as…
