  • Muspell Alpha 13 - 21 March 2023

Hey this is time for a long awaited Muspell update, with major improvements to the changelog! Side note, I’m leaning towards making this game a programmable sandbox where players could design and share their own worlds and mods. That’s why I added Python scripting some releases ago and would like to work on a level editor at some point in the near future. Any ideas or feedback are welcome. Here’s the changelog : Major change: Score and tiers Major change: New monster and character design Many UX fixes for gamepad and split screen New: Items are dropped on the ground New: Press X to remove a prop New Item: Compass show the direction of spawn point Minor UI improvements for monster health bar Gameplay: hold down action button to mine Gameplay: higher level pickaxe needed to mine rare ore Gameplay: You can’t sleep during the day Scripting: New commands gold, xp, create_item

  • Muspell Alpha 11 - 22 February 2021

Hey, it’s time for a new Muspell update, and as it contains lots of fixes and potential breaking changes, feedback is more than welcome for this one! Lots of things have been rewritten and the focus was made on getting the game enjoyable, stable and more fun. There are no new items or monsters for this release, even if we have a running prototype for projectiles! Warning, the old worlds won’t load properly or not at all with this new release. Creative mode was also removed as it is not the plan we have for Muspell. New mob and cave spawn algorithm Mobs generation and caves have been completely redesigned to better suit the procedural and infinite aspect of the game. Initially we added lots of campfires around the world to spawn goblins, but this is not the case anymore. There is a density factor and mob capacity limit to make the game smoother. Reworked Gamepad UX We initially planned t…

  • Muspell Alpha 0.10 - Powerups and Tooltips - 20 November 2020

Hey, here is a fresh new update for Muspell Alpha, with some cool additions! Tooltips Before 0.10 there was no way to know what the items are used for, so one on my priorities was to add some description when you’re hovering an item with mouse. Unfortunately it won’t work with the gamepads (yet) as I’m still trying to figure out the best way to handle such tooltips without mouse. There is also a major rewrite of the Gamepad UX going on, as I’m not satisfied with current implementation. Power Ups and Armor This is where the fun begin! Most of the equipment in the game now grant the player some cool bonus to the stats. As an example, the boots will give you 10% move speed increase. Most of the equipment items will also increase your physical armor that is used to reduce the damage monsters deal to you. This is a very simple math at the moment, an armor stat of 3 will reduce damage receive…

  • Muspell 0.9 - Gameplay tweaks and Stamina - 10 August 2020

Hey guys, after some time off, it's now time for a new update! In this patch i've completely removed the stamina from the gameplay. Why? Because it was simply not fun. The more I played the game, the more I was frustrated about having to rest to continue building/fighting. This was even more frustrating in multiplayer where not everybody plays at the same pace. The stamina gauge is now showing the XP progression for leveling, which was asked by some of you. You can still rest at a campfire, but it will simply slowly restore your HP. Hope you'll find these changes useful to the gameplay, here's the full changelog : - removed stamina - display xp progression gauge - crops grow up quicker - you can rest to restore some HP - fixed: sometimes the merchants could attack the hero - fixed: FPS/TPS toggle in local coop

  • Muspell 0.8 - Creative Mode - 10 June 2020

Hey all! Time for the weekly patch! Today I’m introducing the creative mode, the idea is to allow players to create anything, with the idea of reusing their world in RPG mode. In Creative mode you have unlimited blocks, no energy, no monsters and I also removed distance and time constraints so you can build and destroy blocks anywhere instantly. If you play with keyboard/mouse use the R and T keys to switch between 3 different predefined inventories. On a gamepad, use the DPad left and right arrows. The main goal of this mode is to unleash your creativity and reuse your fortress in RPG mode, both modes are compatible. Creative mode can also be played in multiplayer and local coop. On the minor fix side, I increased the jump height value just a little bit so you can jump and create a block below your feet like in popular block building games. Hope you’ll enjoy this release!

  • Muspell 0.7 - 3 June 2020

A new version is now available, but unfortunately there are no major changes you will be able to see at first sight. Everything is going under the hood! However, we've added a small gameplay modification: Monsters you fight now give you some gold as a reward. Many other updates are planned, so stay tuned!

  • Muspell 0.6 - 26 May 2020

Hey, Muspell 0.6 has been released. This is mostly a clean-up patch, but here is the changelog : simplified some gameplay mechanics monsters are not spawned to infinite anymore stuff items are limited to 4

  • Muspell 0.5 - 20 May 2020

Muspell 0.5 is now available, it contains bug fixes, balancing problems and some usability improvements. • Muspell 0.4 - The Underworld - 8 May 2020

Hey all, In this weekly update I'm introducing the Underworld, which you can find if you mine really deep. You will also see some new monsters in the caves and underworld, using the Goblin model as placeholder for the moment. Last add is the new minerals. You can mine some new rare minerals in the world to get gold quicker. Stay tuned for the next weekly update! Yes I goofed with this release I spent too much time on trying to improve the cave generation algorithm and let the deadline go by two days.

  • Muspell 0.3 - Caves - 29 April 2020

Hey, This week's update is about caves! I just added some experimental cave generation that you can explore if you mine just some blocks below the sand. There are also some bug fixes and improvements, such as Invert Y Axis in options, or Mute Audio/Music. Here is the full changelog for this version : - Cave generation experiments - Option to invert Y Axis - Option to disable sounds and music - Limit distance for mine and build actions - Limit distance to place objects - Other minor UI Fixes Enjoy!

  • Muspell 0.2 - Hoobs - 22 April 2020

Muspell 0.2 is now available, while this is mostly a bug fix version, I found time to introduce a new Language options and also a new character for merchant. Merchants are now using a wolf-like model which has no real name yet. It was codenamed « hoob » in the project since a very long time. Here is the full changelog of this release : - A new model for the merchant - Added a Language option in main menu - You can now attribute stat points using gamepad - Fixed stat points on client side - Fixed block creation on client side - Fixed jump height of monsters - You can’t place blocks on players, monsters or props - Fixed water surface texture - Fixed world seed restore There are many features on my roadmap, so stay tuned for the build 0.3 next week.

  • Muspell is now entering Early Access - 20 April 2020

I’m excited and really happy to announce that Muspell is now available as Early Access today. Early access is really important to me, and I opted for a « release early, release often » methodology over « release when it’s perfect », this way I can share my vision early and take away all risk of never releasing at all. As I mentioned in another post, I’m planning to release a new build every Wednesday on 6pm (GMT), so there is already an update planned in just 2.5 days. The game is already playable, you can fight monsters, build stuff, break blocks, buy items, plant crops, explore the world. I have so many things to do, so many ideas I want to experiment! Multiplayer is also functional, far from complete of course, but working. You can play on a LAN, on the Internet hosting your own game server, or simply play with gamepads in split screen up to four players.
