Over here in PC land we normally wouldn’t get to write about Nintendo’s cutesy island life sim, Animal Crossing, but I’ve found a wonderful reason to bring it before your eyes today. Animal Crossing: New Horizons lets you design all manner of lovely clothing items and pictures for you to display somewhere in your town, and players have been using it to create outfits inspired by PC games like Sea Of Thieves, Sayonara Wild Hearts and, of course, Doom: Eternal. - How Sayonara Wild Hearts music amplifies its queer, feminine identity - 3 March 2020
Pulsating with irrepressible energy, Sayonara Wild Hearts is a music-based arcade game which lets you ride motorcycles and riposte teddy girls, all while balancing on a massive aerial sword that sails through the air at 200mph. It s a euphoric and unexpectedly emotive experience, brimming with explicitly queer and feminine energy fortified by its bisexual lighting filter of pink, purple and blue, and an electropop soundtrack influenced by the likes of Charli XCX and Chvrches. Given that the game is made up of an eclectic mix of genres from side-scrolling shooter to bullet hell, it s a marvel how much the music is in sync to the movement on screen. In terms of video games I felt Thumper , then (less obviously) Fe , plus SuperHot and Persona 5 . Oh, and that mine cart level in the first Harry Potter game. But Sayonara wild hearts is also the drag race scene in Grease, the “Get in loser, we’re going shopping!” of Mean Girls, almost all of Edgar Wright’s version of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, playing DDR in the arcade at the bowling alley when you’re 13, the chaotic energy of DeeDee from Dexter’s Lab, and the first time you go to a club and it has those cool lasers . If you’re anything like me, you’ve been planning on playing Sayonara Wild Hearts since it launched on Nintendo Switch and Apple Arcade earlier this year. Now you can feel slightly worse about continuing to not find time for it, as developers Simogo and publishers Annapurna Interactive have just released the game on PC via Steam. Developer Simogo's sublime music game Sayonara Wild Hearts has - after a couple of months on Switch, PlayStation 4, and iOS - finally launched on PC. Sayonara Wild Hearts, which Simogo describes as a "euphoric music video dream", tells the story of a young woman spirited away to a mysterious world of neon lights and catchy pop, where she meets her alter-ego The Fool. What follows is a gorgeous treat of an experience, and a game about - as Sayonara Wild Hearts' Steam page puts it - "being awesome, riding motorcycles, skateboarding, dance battling, shooting lasers, wielding swords, and breaking hearts at 200 mph". The stylish rhythm game Sayonara Wild Hearts was announced at the 2018 Game Awards, but alas, only for the Nintendo Switch. It also appeared on the PlayStation 4 and iOS devices when it launched in September of this year, and earned positive reviews all around, but of a PC release, there was no sign. That unfortunate oversight was corrected earlier today, when Sayonara Wild Hearts very suddenly and without warning appeared on Steam . Sayonara Wild Hearts is a "pop album videogame," which the Steam listing clarifies as being about "riding motorcycles, skateboarding, dance battling, shooting lasers, wielding swords, and breaking hearts at 200 mph." "As the heart of a young woman breaks, the balance of the universe is disturbed.
