- The Binding of Isaac prequel, The Legend of Bum-bo, releases on consoles this month - 16 June 2022
The Legend of Bum-bo comes to us from the creators behind The Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy. Originally released for PC in 2019, the puzzling rogue-like will be arriving on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 consoles on 29 June . That's not too long away at all! The game leans heavily on the Match-3 genre of puzzle game, or rather, Match-4 in this instance. Throughout The Legend of Bum-bo, you'll be taken through four levels that are packed with foes to fight, however, your fighting is done via matching four or more tiles on the board. There's a little more to it than that, making it a tad more challenging than it initially sounds, and no rerun of the game will be the same as your first; enemies, tiles, and rooms are completely different each time! Binding of Isaac creator Edmund McMillen's poopy puzzle-based deck-builder The Legend of Bum-bo has just received a free expansion, introducing a raft of new content alongside some much needed fixes and quality of life improvements. Although ostensibly a prequel to The Binding of Isaac, Bum-bo is a notably different proposition, building its randomised dungeon-crawling action around turn-based combat with a match-4-style puzzle system at its core. Unfortunately, despite some solid design and eye-catching presentation, Bum-bo arrived in a bit of a state when it released in 2019, and plenty of issue still lingered when, shortly after release, McMillen went radio silent for almost a year. We haven’t heard from deckbuilding Isaac spin-off The Legend Of Bum-bo in a while, have we? After launching in a shaky state last year, the cardboard sewer-crawler creators went silent. Finally speaking this week, creator Edmund McMillen explained that the team have had a particularly rocky time with 2020 – and that hopefully, things have settled long enough to finally get back on track on that free DLC promised way back when. when the legend of bum-bo launched on steam last year it was instantly apparent that it was the messiest launch of my career.. James worked non stop for days to fix bugs and update the game after months of crunch. he was able to get the game in a stable and playable state within a few weeks, the holidays were upon us and we had started planning a free mini dlc to make up for our launch issues, i updated many times... but then, radio silence.
