  • Announcement from Big Huge Games - 29 March 2021

Greeting Mages, It’s with heavy hearts we’re announcing the doors to the Citadel will be closing. Service for Arcane Showdown will be terminated on May 31st, 2021. We began this journey with the goal of creating a deep, Real-Time Strategy game for mobile and we are so proud of how it evolved over time thanks to your support. We saw a Community that loved this game as much as we did, even before our official launch. We saw players who could not get enough of the Citadel, even creating their own competitive tournaments. During our run, you’ve helped us to navigate everything from bugs to balance and to create an environment that we were eager to build on. However, a game cannot run on ambition alone and we are unable to continue with this project. For more information about our decision, please read our Reddit post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ArcaneShowdown/comments/mfotdl/announcement…

  • Beware the Scorching Ray! - 6 November 2020

Don’t get caught in its path, beware the Scorching Ray! Scorching Ray is a laser from the sky that automatically moves towards the nearest enemy it sees. It may be narrow but it is mighty! This high damage, single-target spell gives players precise control over their targets while moving dynamically with the flow of battle. Riffing a bit on Evil Eye, Scorching Ray plays on classical fantasy lore about a powerful eye in the sky that ominously hunts down its prey. Adding this spell card to your deck is a surefire way to strike fear into the heart of your opponent by quickly disrupting their offense. Because we wanted to ensure just the right amount of power, Scorching Ray changed more than any other card during development. We tried every variation of size, damage, speed, and even the number of beams that are spawned when played. There was some tension between wanting it to travel between…

  • Arcane Showdown is out of Early Access! - 30 September 2020

Greetings Mages, We’re very excited to announce that Arcane Showdown is leaving Early Access! This is a thrilling time for our team. Arcane Showdown has been in Early Access since February and has come a long way thanks in part to all of your feedback, suggestions, and bug reports. We have a lot of new content in store, including a new season (which starts this week) and balance updates for October on the way. We’ll get into what’s coming up next soon, but we wanted to take some time to revisit our journey to 1.0. The last few months have introduced many new characters, maps, and features to the game, and we want to take some time to go over those additions for both new arrivals and seasoned Mages in the Citadel. Guardians made a splash in update 0.10.0, bringing both a ton of personality with them and introducing quite a big shake-up to how our Mages build their decks and strategize ag…

  • Arcane Pass - 10 September 2020

Greetings Mages! This season we released a new feature to Arcane Showdown, the Arcane Pass! We’ve designed the Arcane Pass as a way for players to earn more unique and exclusive rewards, featuring both a free and premium reward track. Each season a new Arcane Pass will be introduced, allowing players to progress along their reward track. Like the Arcane Cauldron, you will earn Arcana to progress forward on the reward track, with a single track containing as many as 35 rewards! Complete the battle pass before the next season? Well, don’t worry, the final reward chest in each track can be unlocked as many times as you are able to earn the appropriate amount of Arcana. While the free track alone offers at least as many rewards as the previous Arcane Cauldron, players on the premium track will be able to claim rewards from both the free and premium tracks and free entry to paid events a dai…

  • September Season Update - 3 September 2020

GENERAL Acid Turret, Sentry Tower and Mana Crystal are now 33% smaller This change allows these structures to be placed in front of Statues to defend, which should be an excellent quality of life improvement. Mana veins will continue to produce mana if the territory around them is lost, or controlled by the enemy Mage CARDS Archers Damage reduced by 20% Dragon Slayer Damage per attack reduced by 15% Goblins Damage reduced by 23% Goblins have high damage output, body count, and low-mana cost. All of these traits make them a great addition to any deck, regardless of strategy. We wanted to keep the Goblins as a 2 mana swarm minion with a fast attack, so we lowered their damage to help balance out the total damage Goblins can deal. Tidal Wave Damage against structures reduced by 65% Previously, Tidal Wave dealt 100% of its damage to enemy structures. Every other damage spell (excluding Boul…

  • August Season Update - 11 August 2020

General All spells can be cast without vision Removing the vision requirements for casting spells is a quality of life change that will allow players to consistently cast spells in the best possible position without any vision constraints. Paired with the changes to spawner buildings, players will have many options to counter enemy structures. Cards Whelp Roost Provides a small vision radius to the enemy mage while active Health reduced by 91% Spider Nest Provides a small vision radius to the enemy mage while active Health reduced by 93% Mana cost increased from 2 -> 3 Previously, spawner buildings could be played safely in the back of a lane with little to no counterplay options available. By adding a constant source of vision around spawner buildings and reducing their health, players will be able to effectively counter spawner buildings with spells and guardians. Spawner buildings no…

  • Arcane Showdown v0.11 Update is here - 18 June 2020

Greeting Mages, We have some exciting new updates to dive into in this release! So what's new in v.11? For starters, we have a new Guardian joining the fray. Arthur and his Protector summon are preparing to make their way to the Citadel very soon. We also have two new maps, many new runes, and more to cover in our notes. So let's get to it. New Guardian - Arthur First off we have our newest Guardian, Arthur. While Arthur won’t be available on day one of the update, he will join Ember, Grimly, and Bloomling shortly after the release of v.11. This adorable Grifflet (yes, we said Grifflet) opens up a few new options to players looking for a tankier playstyle. Arthur's passive ability provides all friendly structures with 15% more health, allowing you to play more defensively earlier on. This ability is also useful later in the duel, as it gives your statue upgrades a noticeable boost in he…

We took a look at our cards, how they are used in the game by our players, their strengths and weaknesses, and decided to rebalance the cards' rarity. We believe this update will drive interesting game choices and keep Showdown exciting for our mages. The changes are: Spider Nest is now Common (used to be Rare) Polliwog is now Common (used to be Rare) Behemoth is now Common (used to be Rare) Dragon Slayer is now Common (used to be Rare) Boulder is now Common (used to be Epic) Swordsman is now Rare (used to be Common) Huntress is now Rare (used to be Common) Warlock is now Rare (used to be Common) Mortar is now Rare (used to be Common) Mana Crystal is now Rare (used to be Epic) Arcane Missiles is now Rare (used to be Epic) Haste is now Rare (used to be Epic)…

  • Special Sale: Warlock and Mana Crystal! - 25 May 2020

You'd be surprised how well the Warlock and Mana Crystal work together. Fast track your way to Tier II with Mana Crystal and then summon the Warlock to take down flying minions and ground swarms. Warlock's 6 Mana cost is nothing when you've got Mana Crystal by your side!

  • The Reaper Is Here Early! - 18 May 2020

The Reaper has come to the Citadel, and it's your chance to add him to your deck! A Tier II minion that deals area damage, the Reaper is a force that even death couldn't handle. With his massive scythe, no one within range is safe from his cold and calculated swings. He prides himself as a warrior so powerful that not even death could stop him. He often tells the tale of how he was cut down in the throws of battle, only to rise again and slay all his enemies. Unfortunately, records show he died of old age and was brought back by the sheer indignity of it all. Be sure to play this event for a chance to win the Reaper early!

  • Guardian Spotlight: Grimly - 16 May 2020

Grimly is a Guardian as old as the Citadel itself. Some say he is the spirit of the first (very tiny) Warlock that ever dueled, and joined the ghost world a few seconds later after an Arcane Missile misfire. A mage who takes Grimly as their Guardian doesn't fear death. They own it, literally. Passively, Grimly will reduce your cards' cooldown. When he is fully charged, you can summon a Reaper anywhere in vision that regains health as he slashes your opponent's minions, thriving off of their death.

  • Alchemists Everywhere! - 11 May 2020

Do you hear the sound of smashing glass and feel a burning sensation? You've been hit with the Alchemist's potion! This Tier II ranged minion targets ground minions with an additional bonus: wherever he hits stays a toxic area that deals damage over time to passing minions. How would you use it in your deck? What interesting strategies can you come up with? Get him from chests or from the store to find out!
