- A musical update - 29 July 2024
The game only had 2 soundtracks for years at this point. I thought it would be a good idea to change that. I contacted Kevin Macleod for permission to add some of his music to the game and he gave us permission to do so. Added the following soundtracks by Kevin Macleod: - Dragon and Toast - Leaving Home - Man Down - Mystery Sax - Night Vigil - Oppressive Gloom - Relent - Serene - Stay the Course - Unholy Knight Fixed the stern of the Goliath (big) where water wouldn't flow
- Quick fix from previous update - 6 July 2024
Removed duplicated items that causes the game to crash.
- Small update - 6 July 2024
Updated the Goliath and a few more ships & structures. More coming soon™️
- Sinking Simulator: Legacy - 10 May 2023
I'm happy to announce the release of Sinking Simulator: Legacy This is the old 2013 version with a few minor additions. Notably the material table and ships updated/designed exclusively for this build. You can buy the game Here Sinking Simulator: Legacy is meant to help revive Sinking Simulator and possibly spawn more. Turning Sinking Simulator into a paid game helped me tremendously, but it wasn't quite enough to keep the game running. I do not expect the Legacy game to be as successful as Sinking Simulator, but I remain hopeful. There will be a few minor updates to the Legacy edition, primarily bug fixes and Quality of Life things. But outside of this, this version of the game is not meant to be in active development. Meaning I have no plan to update it beyond what will be coming over in the next couple of days/weeks. However, Good news if you are a skilled programmer. This game is al…
- So... What happened? - 28 July 2022
Hello everyone, Long time no see. I've been thinking about making this announcement for a while but I wasn't sure how to do it. I figured I'd be straight to the point What happened? Well... We had plans for a few updates down the line back in early 2020, Unfortunately, I'm sure you all know what happened that year... Since the game has been Free we didn't really make any profit. This means, once the Pandemic started and we were in Lockdown, we had to change our priorities... Paying rent, food, etc.. life isn't cheap. Any time spent working on the game would not return any significant income, (that's including the support pack DLC) Hence, Sinking Simulator has been in Limbo ever since. What now? It's hard to say. Fred is the sole programmer for the game and now he's way too busy with work There may be minor updates coming up, however we can't make any promises. The fate of the game is cu…
- Titanic 108th Live stream - 14 April 2020
Hello everyone Come join me Tonight at 9:30PM as I will make an attempt to sink the Titanic in a similar amount of time it did in real life of course due to the game being in 2D it's impossible to have an accurate representation of the events nonetheless it doesn't prevent us to try to make our own approximation.
- MULTI-LAYERS & THE ROUTE TO BETTER COLLISIONS - 29 March 2020
Hello everyone! For quite some time, we’ve been discussing potential ways to improve the game’s collision while remaining simple enough to allow complex designs. For the sake of simplicity and helping you folks visualize what I mean, I’ve used the software “Algodoo” in order to demonstrate the idea using a similar system. You can download it here : http://www.algodoo.com/ We believe we’ve found an elegant solution to this issue and it is by using a “Multi-Layered” system. Essentially, it means, most aspects of the creations will be simulated on different layers. For instance, you could have the Hull of a ship as a different layer than the background “non hull” Since the hull would be on a different layer, it will be treated as a different entity and it won’t be subject to the same amount of force as the background “non hull” of the ship. It means we could (in theory) properly simulate W…
- Workshop Disaster - 23 March 2020
Hello everyone As many of your likely know already, the Workshop is full of re-uploads. Unfortunately its not an easy task to ban every single one of them so I would like to invite the community to report re-uploads of ships We will also have to get a couple of moderators to help cleaning up the workshop A new tag "Not Spam" has been added temporarily to help ordering the workshop An Admin/Moderator will have to apply this tag manually. This means once it is properly implemented, you will be guaranteed the creations using this tag are genuine. Thank you for your time Sorry for the inconvenience.
- DLC idea [Poll] - 29 February 2020
Hello everyone I made an announcement a while ago where I asked people to help sharing or donating money to a GoFundMe campaign for my brother who was diagnosed with brain cancer Thankfully, he has made a full recovery, his chemotherapy worked and he's getting better now. I wanted to thanks everyone of you who shared or donated money. However, I know not everyone are this lucky. Many people can't make it. For the past month, I wanted to explore the idea of a DLC where the money we raise will be donated to various organisations to research or fight against brain cancers. If it's successful I might even want to help against other brain diseases. The goal right now is to donate at least 80% or more of the money the rest will be used to help improving the game over time. I have made a Poll open to the public on our Patreon page https://www.patreon.com/posts/new-dlc-34431703 I am still unsur…

- Real Fake Lights - 2 February 2020
Hello everyone! Fred has been hard at work and managed to get a new "Fake" Lighting system into the game This is an update to the Testing Branch. It will become public in a few days if there aren't any major issues. What is a fake lighting system? Essentially, this is a Shader which change the appearance of the texture based on ambient light. They also support all colours We have 2 shaders exlights The colour value will change the appearance of the texture layer. a White value will make the texture just as bright as if would be in daytime A black value would make it just as dark as everything else around. It is very useful if you plan to create some sort of interior texture where you want the inside of the ships to remain visible. example below https://i.imgur.com/WKjbW9F.png https://i.imgur.com/oF4U4HX.png inlights inlight will essentially replace the texture itself and can get much br…
- Little tweaks [TESTING] - 31 January 2020
Hello everyone! this is a minor update for the testing branch we want to make sure nothing is broken before we make it public If everything goes well it will become public in a few days. What's new? Improved Ship loader New Ships Ship Proprieties Editor Bugfix The Toolbox and ship loaders were changed a little bit. It is not possible to create a new ship or to edit the proprieties of the ship on the screen. Take note, those aren't tools to make ships from scratch, but to import images and customize their textures Creating or Edit a new ship will open a little window where you can Load a base texture (it use the colour code from the palette) load a custom material Json script (if you want to expand the materials type) Add texture layers (as many as you want, you can toggle between them above the tools icons) The texture layers are any Png image you wish to apply to the ship, We recommend…
- NPC Ideas - 15 January 2020
NPC Idea Hello everyone!, I wanted to let you know our current Idea for the potential implementations of NPCs into the game. The following is mostly Hypothetical, it doesn't mean the final result will happen nor could it be exactly as described below, ---------------------------------- By using the multi layer system I thought it would be good to create some sort of NPC character and Nodes The nodes would really just be a simple colored paths in it's own layer, using color coded nodes would allow the creation of zones and specific "behaviors" in each and used as the pathway of the NPC inside the ships the amount of NPC types could be controllable in the toolbox the NPCs would be a sprite character (most likely a very simple shape like a stick figure) they would be scalable in the toolbox so they can be the right size for the ships. Their default size would be 1.8 pixels in height with a…
- Steam Workshop [Testing] - 10 January 2020
Hello everyone! We are exited to let you know the steam workshop should be working now! The update also includes an attempt to fix some of the earlier crashes. it is only available on the Testing branch, (see the previous announcement for instructions)
- Ship Loader [Experimental] - 3 January 2020
Hello everyone! I wanted to let you know I've pushed the latest experimental build into the "Testing" branch of the game The new loader allows everyone to spawn their creation in a simple click of the mouse no need to drag the image into the game anymore If you wish you run the experimental build, go to the game's proprieties and select the testing branch in the Betas tab The following only address those who like to create ships and other structures. In order for your textures and ships to load properly in the game, you need to follow these steps Your base model (the one using colour code) must end with "_base" Your Textures must end in 3 potential ways: "_texture" if you only have 1 texture "_interior_texture" for the interior "_exterior_texture" for the exterior Here's an image for reference Later, we will implement other formats and shaders. You will be able to share your own custom…

- 3D ships in Substance Designers - 29 December 2019
We plan to eventually add compatibility with the typical shaders such as: - Ambient occlusion - Normal map - Height map These 3 combined will make 2D ships into 3D objects
- Patreon? - 28 December 2019
Hello everyone I will try to make this short This post is here for me to ask the community if you guys think we should make a Patreon page. It was often suggested by multiple people over the last few years but I always refused under the principle that I don't like to lock content behind a paywall and the lack of proper organisation. Not only that, but the game is being worked on as a hobby. We both have jobs taking our time, so a Patreon would just feel weird given our context. Aka, our livelihood do not depend on the success of the game, which nowadays appears to be a pretty rare thing among Game dev or youtube/streaming platforms etc... This is why I make this post. I personally started thinking about it more and more in the last month or so. I thought about potential ways to maybe make it work, but it depends on the community. Hence I want to make a poll. Should we start a Patreon pa…
