- Big Update: Version 1.1.05-beta - 7 December 2022
Greetings, gumshoes! It’s been a while since our last update, owing to the fact that we’ve been working on the most requested feature from you, our players. During the past few months, we have been building and implementing free saving within the game – allowing players to save almost whenever and wherever during the game, and being able to pickup where they left off. On top of that, we’ve also finally implemented Brazilian Portuguese localisation – something a lot of you folks have been waiting for. But do note, we have decided to release this version as a public Beta version first (accessible by all players), before releasing it as the default version. The reason we do this is despite having tested the build thoroughly in the past month, we want to make absolutely sure we don't miss a crucial issue or bug before we release it as the new default build. By making this a Beta, we ensure…

Tweaked the save system to that it always displays the newest save regardless of whether it is an autosave or a manual save. Made corrections to the decryption puzzle in "For the Tyrants Fear Your Might".

- Chinatown Detective Agency review: stylish cyberpunk meets history homework - 7 April 2022
Have you ever encountered something that you know some people are going to absolutely love, but others will hate to their very core? What's a good metaphor for that? If only there were a food product that had built an entire brand around the concept. I guess we'll never know. But Chinatown Detective Agency , a beautiful, pixely, point and click puzzle game set in a cyberpunk future Singapore, has what I predict will be a pretty polarising central feature, and that is real time historical research. - Beta Updates: Unveiling new screenshots of previously unseen areas - 2 November 2021
Dear gumshoes, We have a lot of new things to show you as part of our development updates. Let’s get started with some art Ricardo's having a lot of fun experimenting with Unity's lighting effects, and some of the end results are just beautiful. Check out the one below - a dark, menacing, dilapidated house where a crucial lead is just begging to be uncovered. Or check out Tiger Lily's own personal onsen at her health club. Darkness and light really set the mood in each scene of the game, and that's something we're hoping to consistently deliver. We've also been working hard on perfecting the implementation of the assets in the game (part of the polishing phase). Here are some gifs of scenes you haven't seen before (no worries, no spoilers!): Our art team has also been working away on the in-game characters that some of our backers have created. Here are just some samples: We're also mid…

- Big Update: Beta! - 9 August 2021
We're excited to announce that we've hit our biggest and most important milestone. As of today, we have officially completed a functional beta build of Chinatown Detective Agency. This is big. This is probably the most important steps towards completion. So let's just dive into the details of what this means. What is this beta that you speak of? It means you can now play the game from beginning to end. So in purely functional terms, the game is complete. What is this beta still missing? It's not 100% content complete just yet - we're still missing some assets like VO, SFX and some animations. We've got placeholder assets for now, but are steadily finishing up and implementing the real assets as we speak. It's also a pre-QA build. This means that it needs to go through rounds of testing to make sure it's bug free. We have a dedicated QA company to handle this, as the team has decided to…

- Development Update - Progress! - 9 April 2021
Dear detectives, It’s been a while since our last development update, we’re getting there, folks. We’re getting there. Here’s a summary of our progress so far: We’re putting a bow on the Rupert and Keeran story arcs, which leaves us with the Tiger Lily missions, then finally, the Main/Final missions. Writing is practically done except for 3 more missions, and art is catching up. Our programmers are hard at work putting everything together. We took 2 weeks away from development of the main game to fix the Prologue, including bug fixes and optimisation -- these fixes also affect the main game, so it’s time well spent. Our planned release window of some time this summer is still what we’re working towards, and a final release date will eventually be announced (keep an eye out!). Here’s a few new screenshots from the new missions that we’ve just finished: As for new assets and environments,…
- Composer Q&A! Meet Muchkin and Sean, CDA's musical masters... - 25 February 2021
Happy Thursday, detectives! How is everyone doing? We hope you're all safe and well and happy. ❤ 2021 seems to be going by very fast already, doesn't it? While the quicker the months fly by, the quicker we get to see you all having a (hopefully) joyous ol' time with Chinatown Detective Agency, we can't help but feel the need to ask the universe to calm down just a little bit. After all, we have a game to make! Now, we've spoken A LOT about the art direction, characters, and the real-world research mechanics over the past year, but one thing you may not have heard too much about is our incredible soundtrack from our favourite composers Dmitrii Muchkin and Sean Kolton (Sean creates the more contemplative and ambient tracks used during gameplay, while Muchkin is working on the upbeat and dynamic tracks that you'll hear in the main menu and transition scenes). Today we aim to remedy that wi…
- Creative Director Q&A! Meet Mark Fillon, storytelling maestro... - 8 February 2021
Hey there detectives! We hope you and your loved ones are doing good as we keep rolling through 2021. Thank you for your continued support and excitement for Chinatown Detective Agency, our wonderful community is the best part of this job. We have officially entered the year of Chinatown Detective Agency, and that calls for a Q&A from none other than the Creative Director of General Interactive Co, Mark Fillon about Chinatown Detective Agency, his experiences, Singapore and what it's been like running the project. Hi Mark! How did you start making games? I was never a game developer. In fact, my real start as a game designer came with me designing my first game Terroir with Jenny (our lead programmer). Before that, I dabbled in modding, but I never really coded. CDA is the second game I’m designing. How did you come up with the idea for Chinatown Detective Agency? Simple - I wanted to m…
