- Respawn reportedly lay off staff across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi teams, cancel two incubation projects - 29 April 2025
Update : Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has since reported that between 300 and 400 positions have been "eliminated" across EA, including around 100 at EA. One of the cancelled incubation projects was also apparently an extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe. Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment have announced that two of its incubation projects have been cancelled, leading to what it calls a number of "target team adjustments across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi ." - Respawn working on "brand new single-player adventure" - 23 July 2021
Respawn sure seems to be busy right now - not only is it beavering away on Apex Legends (and reportedly a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order), but we've also heard news about a new IP - and it seems this one is going to be a single-player game. A number of new job listings have been posted on Respawn's website, with creative director Mohammad Alavi describing the project as a "brand new Respawn single-player adventure". Details on the game remain light, but the postings do note that the project is "in its early stages", while the single-player title is apparently "a designer's dream playground with a freedom to innovate made possible by the unique universe it inhabits." According to a tweet in April by Respawn developer Steven Kah Hien Wong, the team is building a new IP "from scratch". So before you start asking about Titanfall 3 again, it seems like this is something brand new. Re…

Never mind EA Play Live - that sounds like we won't see any new Star Wars games until 2022. Read more

- EA forging ahead with Star Wars titles despite end of exclusivity deal - 3 February 2021
A few weeks ago we heard that after a long, long period of Star Wars games being made exclusively by EA, Ubisoft studio Massive Entertainment is working on an open-world Star Wars title , signalling that EA's 10-year exclusivity deal with Disney will not be extended. Despite this, it seems EA still has a number of Star Wars projects in the pipeline - and has no intention of slowing down. In an earnings call last night, CEO Andrew Wilson said EA's Star Wars titles had made "over $3bn (£2.2bn) in net bookings" and had sold a total of 52m copies. Mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is a franchise worth $1bn (£733m) alone, and Wilson highlighted that EA had created a portfolio of other successful Star Wars titles including "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic ... Battlefront, Jedi: Fallen Order and most recently, Squadrons. "As we've established the very strong part of that franchise…

The Xbox Game Pass team has announced that EA Play, EA's games subscription service, won't be integrated into Game Pass for PC until 2021. The two services were originally supposed to merge sometime this month . "Unfortunately, what had been a celebratory post is now one asking for a little more patience," the short blog post reads, "We made the decision to delay until 2021 the release of EA Play on PC as part of the Xbox Game Pass for PC and Ultimate memberships."..
