- Twelve years on, AudioSurf gets an update outta nowhere - 17 February 2020
At twelve years young, beat-riding arcade game AudioSurf just got an update out of nowhere. All casual like, Dylan Fitterer has just posted some changes to the game including some new aspect ratio goodness and an update to make corkscrew twists on the roller coaster style tracks feel cooler and more earned. (more…)
- Corkscrews and Widescreens! - 15 February 2020
Widescreens Widescreen scaling is now handled much better. This is especially noticeable on ultrawide monitors, but it's an improvement for 16:9 displays too (Audiosurf was originally designed for 4:3). Most of the menu screens do still fully stretch. Corkscrews Corkscrew twists were completely random, but now they highlight a big moment in the song. There's still the same 25% chance of a ride having a corkscrew (except for songs that really want one and therefore always have one). You can now play in narrowscreen too if that’s your thing. Have fun! Dylan
- Revisiting Audiosurf reminds me that no one owns music in 2019 - 4 March 2019
This article was originally published in PC Gamer UK 327 back in January. Consider subscribing to get our long-running magazine sent to your door.  I had not considered that in this, the sixth Year of Luigi, finding music to play in Audiosurf would be a problem. Turns out I stream everything. The only CD I actually own is Bette Midler’s It’s The Girls album and even then I’d need to stream the tracks from that via Spotify because I don’t have a disc drive on my PC anymore.     After exhausting the sole track included with the game (Audiosurf Overture by Pedro Macedo Camacho) I decide to stream Audiosurf Online Radio, which is basically just a Soundcloud playlist. The only song on the playlist is Audiosurf Overture by Pedro Macedo Camacho.  I only discover this later when Phil looks it up, as trying to connect to Audiosurf Online Radio…
- I took the best music of 2018 and played it all in 2008 s best rhythm game, Audiosurf - 31 December 2018
As we rapidly approach the end of the year, it s time for everyone to look back over the past twelve months of stuff and turn it into neat little lists of what was best. Like games, yes, but also telly and photos and, as we shall see, music. After all, is there a better way of celebrating the end of the year than to take 10 of the finest tunes of 2018 and run them through the finest rhythm game of 2008? I certainly can t think of anything. Let s Audiosurf . (more…)
- What was the first downloadable game you bought on PC? - 19 May 2018
Earlier this week, we asked you to tell us the last physical copy of a PC game you bought, while sharing our own choices. Today, as a kind of sequel to that question, we ask, what was the first downloadable game you bought on PC ?  In the PC Gamer Q&A , we ask the global PC Gamer team for their thoughts on a particular subject, then invite you to add your thoughts in the comments below. We'll also feature a few answers from the PC Gamer Club Discord , accessible to anyone who's a part of our membership program. You'll find our answers below, and we'd love to hear what your first paid downloadable game was too.  Jarred Walton: Half-Life 2 I'll take the easy route on this one, because it's also true: Half-Life 2 was the first downloadable game I bought . I also played Counter-Strike 1.6 on the platform (including using the Steam beta), but that…
- The making of Audiosurf, the synesthesia simulator - 23 April 2018
Ninja Mono, Audiosurf's most popular mode, poses for a yearbook photo. Art by Michael Fitzhywel A telling difference between today's indie games scene and that of 10 years ago is how excited Dylan Fitterer was to hear his game was going to be on Steam.  Audiosurf had just been nominated for three IGF awards in the categories of Technical Excellence, Excellence in Audio, and the Seamus McNally Grand Prize. As Dylan tells it, "Then I got a call from Jason Holtman at Valve who said, 'Hey, you want to sell this on Steam?' That blew me away. That was crazy to get an offer like that." Audiosurf went on to win the audio category as well as the audience vote, but the bigger prize was that it became February 2008's top seller on Steam, both by number of copies sold and revenue, despite being an indie rhythm game that cost 10 bucks. It eventually sold over a million copie…
- Audiosurf Adopts VR With Audioshield, Out Next Month - 1 March 2016
Perhaps the most difficult thing about demonstrating the virtues of virtual reality games is the fact that so much of the effect is lost when portrayed via flat video. With this in mind, the Fantastic Contraption guys have made some good videos recently using ‘mixed reality’ – a process where a combination of secondary cameras and in-game and in-headset footage is used to showcase how the game works. Audioshield , successor to obstacle-dodging rhythm game Audiosurf , adopts a similar approach in its latest trailer to great effect. …
- Audiosurf 2 out of Early Access, has a demo - 27 May 2015
Maybe you've always wondered what Half Man Half Biscuit's National Shite Day (or, theoretically, another song) looked like as a PC game level. Specifically, a PC game level that looks slightly better and has slightly more options than the original Audiosurf. Well! Lucky for you, Audiosurf 2 is out of Early Access. Which is a slightly less clunky way of saying it's now more released than the amount of released that it was when it was first released into Early Access. Anyway, here's the important bit: there's a demo . While the concept is the same as Audiosurf: Origins—riding tracks generated from your music, all while collecting, avoiding or matching coloured blocks—the sequel features a number of improvements. For one thing, Steam Workshop support offers a number of skins and mods. You can also search for music online, via Sound Cloud. The demo allows you to play four songs.…
- Audiosurf 2 Surfs Out Of Early Access With Demo - 27 May 2015
Audiosurf 2 , the game which allows you to ‘ride’ your music on a neon futuristic racetrack, has left Steam Early Access today. It brings an updated Audiosurf experience, with new official game modes and skins alongside the 500+ already available on Steam Workshop. Not only that, but according to the developer the “UI is good now”, which is always a plus. …
- Flip Side: Audiosurf 2 Leaving Early Access This Month - 6 May 2015
Audiosurf 2 is coming out on May 26th. “Oh,” says whatever voice I’ve created for the purposes of introducing this post (sounds a bit like an old mate of yours, one you don’t think about often and smile remembering, but underwater), “I thought it was out. It’s not out? It is out, isn’t it? No? Really?” No, it’s still on Steam Early Access. The game which turns your songs into courses to race around gathering points launched into Early Access in October 2013 and creator Dylan Fitterer has worked on it since. Now he’s almost done, and mercy me I might get pulled back to old friendly rivalries. …
- Have You Played Audiosurf? - 18 March 2015
Have You Played? is an endless stream of game recommendations. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time. Girls Aloud song Biology isn’t just a piece of music to me, it’s a landscape. This because of the hours spent playing it over and over in Audiosurf , an obstacle-dodging score attack game that captivated everyone in my social circle (and RPS) in 2008 . …

- Why I Love: playing 'Monkey Bee' in Audiosurf - 29 October 2014
Why I love In Why I Love , PC Gamer writers pick an aspect of PC gaming that they love and write about why it's brilliant. Today, Phil explains why Audiosurf works so well with faux-Chinese opera. This might seem a bit esoteric, even for this column . Bear with me. This is also a recommendation. Not only is playing the song 'Monkey Bee' in Audiosurf a thing that I love; it's a thing that will actively make your life better. At least, the part of your life that involves playing Audiosurf. I love rhythm games, and Audiosurf is one of the best. (Not the best, but then Gitaroo Man was never released on PC.) It's an odd genre for music fans, because its traditional set-up positions music as an obstacle to overcome. It's an adversarial relationship—at least until you conquer the patterns of the level. Audiosurf works in much the same way. It's a puzzle game; a high-speed match-three cha…

- Latest Humble Weekly Sale is all rhythm games - 21 March 2014

The funkiest of gamers by which I mean, anyone who can actually bob their head in time and carry a tune will appreciate the sick beats on sale in the form of Symphone, Sequence, and Bit Trip Runner.
