- v1.1.1 Practice Update - 27 January 2026
I mean, listen, we're talking about practice. Not a game! Not a game! Not a game! We're talking about practice. Not a game, not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last, not the game, we're talking about practice, man. If you're new to Sunday Rivals and years of muscle memory from playing some-other-football-game-who-I-won't-name-but-you-desperately-needed-to-play-something-else is tripping you up, I have great news! I've added a full fledged Practice Mode to Sunday Rivals! Unlike Allen Iverson, you'll get all the time you need on the field to learn the ins and out of the game, study the controls, and start cracking skulls out there! You can practice offense, defense, and all phases of special teams from any place on the field with one or two players! And if you're more like Allen Iverson heading into year 6 of Sunday Rivals (yes, it's been that long…
- v1.1 Random Update - 9 November 2025
A random Sunday Rivals update in 2025? Yes my friends it's true, I have a nice little quality of life update for you completely out of nowhere and am happy to announce that schedules are now completely randomized at the start of every season! Why'd that take so long? Good question... the important thing is that it's in the game now so let's just pretend it's always been there, ok?Along with the new schedules, I've made some tiny tweaks based on community feedback, namely getting more outcome variety from AI kickers but also a tiny boost to defense. For kickers you should see more returnable kickoffs from the AI and (hopefully) some missed field goals! On the defensive side, I increased the chances of fumbles (especially in the rain) and tipped passes happening, just to keep things spicy out there. Remember, use your sliders if you feel like it's too much (or not enough!)I hope you enjoy…
- v1.09 Bug Patch - 18 February 2024
Hey yall, just released a minor bug patch, check the notes below: AI Tweaked AI logic to be more aggressive while losing in last chance situations late in the game BUGS Fixed a critical bug where players without first names would soft lock the game after having their season stats shown Fixed a bug where the ref who did the coin toss would be stuck in the call pose Fixed a bug where you could unintentionally sim a game on the season sim screen Fixed some grammatical errors in post game interviews
- v1.07 Winter Update - 26 December 2023
In the spirit of the holiday season, I wanted to give you a little present to finish off 2023 in style, so check out the Winter Update! First off, I've rebranded the pre-snap statbox as the new Hype Tracker, which along with the existing team totals will now show player's game and season stats! Really excited to finally get this working in game! A small, but hopefully impactful change I've added are 2 more 'crowd' options allowing for medium and low density crowds. If you're playing the game on a lower spec pc or even Steam Deck, I'd recommend trying out medium and seeing if that improves performance for you! Speaking of Steam Deck, I've added some controller shortcut buttons to make navigating menu screens faster. You're now able to press RB/LB or R1/L1 to switch between pages (edit player screen, stat leaders, etc) and X/Square to sort pages that support that feature (game stats, reco…

- v1.05 Bug Patch - 18 March 2023

UI Added an icon to show when an option is locked out on the game setup screen BUGS Fixed a bug where the Gameday Rivals boost for RB2 was being miscalculated Fixed a bug where the Gameday Rivals boost set ratings beyond 99 Fixed multiple bugs that resulted in the in-game MVP not matching the awards MVP listing after the game Fixed a bug where selecting a player during pass preview wasn't changing the color of their name Fixed a bug where non-championship games could be played in Rivals Stadium Fixed a bug where the wrong stadium name was listed in social media posts Fixed multiple spelling errors and broken dialog phrases
- v1.04 The Big Game Update - 16 March 2023
Whew, after 3 and a half months I'm happy to finally release The Big Game Update to Sunday Rivals! Seriously, this was only supposed to take a few weeks, but I got excited and kept adding new stuff and now we got a bunch of fun things to play with! This update is focused on improving the end to end presentation of the gameday experience, so we start off now with a proper intro cinematic: Plus a look at both team's lineups and their OVR ratings: And what I still believe to be the best video game coin toss ever: Now something I'm really excited for yall to get your hands on is the all-new Gameday Rivals system, which randomly picks 3 players from each team and boosts their OVR's before the game! You'll want to keep an eye out for these guys too cause they're bound to make some big plays happen! Halftime gets some love, starting with a fun scene that shows off each team's leading performer…
- What's Next? The 'Big Game Update' - 30 January 2023
Hey yall, wanted to share some progress I've made on the upcoming major update to Sunday Rivals, the Big Game Update! I'm focused on adding and improving various aspects of the game's overall presentation, especially where I can weave together some of the on-field action with the overarching storylines that surround game day. Here's a sneak peek at how some of that is coming along: Coin Toss Start The Big Game off right with a completely over the top, gratuitous coin toss sequence! > > > See the whole sequence in motion here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Z9mRpBnWX50 Refs Love em, hate em, or tackle em when they get in your way! Social Media Feed Nothing says gameday like being subjected to an endless stream of uninformed opinions! New Shutter Cards Fancy AND informative! Player of the Game Interview! What a big win for the Orcas! Now, let's head down to Veronika Kay with our Player of…
- Sunday Rivals Trading Cards Available Now! - 10 January 2023
Hey folks, happy to announce that Steam Trading Cards, Badges, and more are now available for Sunday Rivals! I added a whole bunch, so if you like collecting things hopefully you'll enjoy your upcoming drops! One fun note to add, I wrote a little player lore for each trading card! Turns out there's an entire universe of SRFL stories out there just waiting to be discovered, with some players you probably already know, and maybe a few you should familiarize yourself with... If you enjoy the backstories or are interested in additional community items / Steam point shop items in the future, let me know!
- v1.0.3 Two Player Update - 28 November 2022
Hey yall, I've heard a lot of feedback over the years about ways to improve two player games, especially when it comes to hiding play calls from your opponents. Sadly we live in a world of screen-peekers, so in this update I've taken a step towards making their lives more miserable and given you the ability to call 'decoy' plays! While this does not solve all the issues, I think this is a good start at balancing the playing field and forcing cheaters to focus more on their own play calls and less on yours! I've also done a full name and appearance pass on the entire SRFL, adding a bit more originality and personality league-wide. If you have a season in progress, you might notice some new names and faces on your team, but outside of a few players everyone should play more or less the same. Unfortunately, if any of the players who's names have changed set records or won POTW honors, thos…
- v1.0.2 Slider Patch - 30 August 2022
A small patch that should hopefully deliver more expected results for blocking & defensive rushing slider values, especially on the low end. SLIDERS Increased the impact of the Run & Pass Blocking sliders on values above 50 Increased the impact of the Run & Pass Defense sliders on values below 50 BUGS Fixed a bug where blocked defensive players would use the slider values of the offensive player they were engaged with
- v1.0.1 Record Book Update - 29 August 2022
I'm excited to share with you the very first post-launch update to Sunday Rivals, the Record Book Update! In total there are 72 records to break & hold in Season Mode and the best part is all the data is persistent, so your records carry over year after year. The AI gets a crack at them too, so you'll want to keep on eye on those out of town scores! Looking forward to seeing the wild numbers yall put up after a few seasons... This update also brings along some much needed visual consolidation to the frontend menus, including an updated lighting pass, super glossy helmets, and a dynamic background to keep things flowing. Finally, I've been receiving a lot of questions about Steamdeck support and depending on when you're reading this, I may or may not have one in my hands to test the game on. Whenever that happens, I'll see what I can do to better optimize and support the gameplay experie…
- Sunday Rivals Launch Day! - 16 May 2022
We've defeated the Early Access team and can finally hoist the long-awaited 'full release' trophy, Sunday Rivals hits 1.0 today! Check out this trailer and then I'm going to wax poetic about the game for a bit: This release was all about tying up loose ends, but I did add one more fun thing on the way out: Taunting! Remember, showboating is all fun and games until the AI breaks one and shoves it in your face! To make the game a little more familiar to new players coming from other sports games, I've made some changes to the default controls. Do us both a favor and check out the all-new 'How to Play' section before you hit the field to see the new layout (original one is now called 'classic'). And who knows, maybe you'll learn something new about the game too? Lastly, music! Actual Sunday Rivals menu music! Now before I dump a list of patch notes on you, I want to give a huge thank you t…
- Sunday Rivals Launch Date & Price - 21 April 2022
Happy to finally announce that Sunday Rivals will leave Early Access and officially launch on May 16th, 2022 for only $20! Easy to pickup, hard hitting, fully customizable arcade football is back! Please help me spread the word and a special thank you to everyone who has jumped in during Early Access and helped me build this game and community, I hope you've enjoyed the ride as much as I have!
- v.21.0 Fumble Update - 11 April 2022
Excited to launch the v.21.0 Fumble Update! Offenses beware, if you think you can just run out the clock in crunch time, better find some guys who can hold onto the rock! Don't take my word for it, see for yourself! This update also brings along some important AI improvements on both sides of the ball, as well as adding new sliders to support pass disruptions and fumbles. As a result, your slider/difficulty settings will be reset, so make sure you adjust them to get the challenge you're looking for! I've also removed the custom roster 'auto-patcher' added in v.17.0, last July. If you had custom rosters prior to v.17.0 and also haven't played the game since then, I recommend running the game first before installing this update to patch your rosters! Most players should not be affected by this change, it's more of a heads up for any lapsed players who might be checking back in after a lon…
- v.20.4 Bug Patch - 21 March 2022
Quick patch to fix a critical bug that popped up in the most recent release: BUGS Fixed a critical bug where punts could land in a location that players would not be able to pick up the ball from, effectively soft-locking the game
- v.20.3 Gameplay Update + Release Plans - 18 March 2022
Hey yall, the v.20.3 Gameplay Update is live featuring some changes on the defensive side of the ball, most notably the ability for a well timed hit on a receiver to jar the ball loose for an incomplete pass! Once it happens, you'll think twice about setting your receiver up for that hospital pass... In addition to pass disruptions, I've made some overall changes to how and when defenders try to make plays on the ball, as well as tightening up their ability to keep plays in front of them and make quick tackles. This is all pretty fresh, so feedback is appreciated! There's also a bunch of new animations, reactions, and a few important bug fixes, so you'll want to read the full patch notes below. But odds are if you're still reading this, you probably want to hear about these release plans, so without further ado, here's me, talking about release plans! Questions? Concerns? Let me know wh…
- v.20.2 Face Update - 5 March 2022
Hey yall, happy to show off the Face Update, which is a funny name but honestly I'm not sure what else to call this one! This update adds a handful of new player customization options, including 2 additional heads, 5 facial hair options, new hair colors, and finger tape! In addition, you'll be able to pop up your player's helmet while working on them to see those mean mugs in all their glory. This update isn't just pretty faces, in fact things are gonna get real dirty soon with the addition of late hits! Lay off some steam by laying out an unwitting opponent who forgot to keep his head on a swivel after the whistle. There's a few extras packed in here too, including new ball bounces on punts and tipped passes, better throws on bubble screens, and some bug fixes. Check out the complete patch notes below: ART Added 2 head options, updated the original one Added 4 facial hair options Added…
- v.20.1 Chain Gang Update - 22 February 2022
Hope everyone is enjoying the weather, this week I put together a gameplay patch that addresses a long standing issue in Sunday Rivals: Where to place the ball after a big tackle. As you know, the hits in Sunday Rivals can be on the massive side and as a result, it's not always clear where a tackle began and where it actually ended. Enter the chain gang! You may have noticed these guys on the sidelines in the last update. Going forward they play a crucial role in determining whether or not that big run you just broke off will be a first down or 4th & inches! While ball spotting has been improved everywhere on the field, you'll notice it most in the endzone, where past plays that probably should have been touchdowns will finally get you the 6 you deserve! See it for yourself: There's even more packed into this patch, so check out the full release notes below! GAMEPLAY Improved forward mo…
- v.20.0 Weather & Time of Day Update - 16 February 2022
Excited to launch the long-awaited weather and time of day update to Sunday Rivals! Time of day runs continuously through the game, start a game in the early morning dew and finish in the heat of the afternoon. As the the setting sun dips below the horizon, the blinding stadium lights flood the field. Dynamic weather systems bring rain showers that evolve into muddy down pours. Snow dusted grass transforms into a frozen, winter wonderland. Howling winds blow well-aimed kicks off the uprights and rolling fog strains field visibility. Mother nature at her finest! To implement all these changes, I've made a host of adjustments to team customization screens, so you'll absolutely want to update your teams' weather, grass, and stadium settings before you start checking out the new weather! Finally, this update brings with it a host of graphical improvements that may have an impact on lower en…
