- Full Game Rewrite and Redesign - 17 May 2026
Hey everyone, Muddykat here. As the lead developer for Overseer it's been a long while since I've provided any updates or announcements on the game. I'm happy to state that I think the new refactor that myself and the team that Lamina Studios has helped put together has finally entered a state that I can provide a few screenshots of the very very early version of Overseer. Please note that this version is a full game rewrite, no direct code has been taken from the older version of the game, It's been a long time since I initially created the first version of Overseer back when I was still in high school. I've since completed my University Education as mentioned in a previous post, and I'm taking what I've learnt and applied it to the latest version of Overseer, this is technically the third rewrite, although the first "full" one, as the second version took a fair amount of the originals…

Now that I have completed my education, I can dedicate more time to developing Overseer. My immediate focus will be on implementing several key features: Enhancing overall game balance Refining boss fights for a more dynamic experience Developing distinct AI for horde and elite enemies (currently, all enemies share the same 'Elite Level' AI) Polishing the menu and UI design, particularly for crafting and NPC dialogue Multiplayer is something that I've always wanted to implement, but had put off as I wanted to "perfect" the system, with my new skills gathered from completing my Master of Information Technology and my Master of Cybersecurity; I'm confident that I will eventually find a "Good Enough" system for the purposes of Overseer! ~Muddykat

The game now has a updated UI, this change is in preparation for reworking the inventory mechanics. The Game now has a random monster event to ensure the player is fighter more often. Some minor bug fixes.

More Sound effects added to the Wizard More Sound effects for Crafting, Buying and Equipping Items Fixed Blood Layer Rendering Above Spike Ball Traps Modified Wizard Beam Ability to follow the mouse rather than clip to it. (Follow speed based on speed stat) Fixed Beam Disappearing if hitting a tree in the hub world. Work done on Networking in the background, still not functional, sorry about that. :(

Fixed a collision bug with players getting stuck in walls Added Juicy effects to wizard fire bolt Switched out the Lighting engine to a new one, needs more work to make it pretty, but it's about 5 times more efficient Save Slots have been added however they are still very basic, you can now type in and have usernames!

Large change to the Rendering Engine in this update, Silhouettes are currently not enabled at the moment, they will be added again later. I've also been working on Getting Networking Up and running in the Dungeon properly, as while you can connect with a friend at the moment, it's not currently playable in the current patches!

Update includes Royalty Free Music and Art to make the Hubworld feel alive and lived in! New Abilities Available for the Warrior And Wizard! Forge Powerful Artifacts with Materials found in the Dungeon! A Stranger has come to the hubworld, he seems a little shady, and while the stuff he's selling isn't ready yet, it seems powerful! Shadows and Light, Massive Overhaul to the Lighting, Shadows can now be cast in the dungeon and hub world, very pretty! AI Optimizations, AI is now managed by a single AI control Object, Improving Frame-rate and allowing ease of integration for the future Multiplayer Update. A refactor of how Damage Boxes Work, same functionality better execution. (Mostly so that Multiplayer Hosting Works Nicer!)
- Overseer V1.3.27c - 13 February 2021
The AI that runs enemy action in Overseer has been reworked to have more complicated behavior. Enemies can now strafe around the player, attack the player and keep their distance and even dodge poorly aimed attacks. For those interested the enemies AI is now based off of Context-based Steering, which was originally designed for racing games! Minor UI improvements include a new Mouse Cursor and a small pointer for what direction your skills and attacks will fire. You can now Scrap unwanted Items from your inventory for more gold! Careful though, cursed items can't be easily destroyed.
- Update 1.3.24a - 9 February 2021
This update reworks the dungeon generation algorithm to be based of a 'cheat sheet', this ensures that the dungeons look nicer, and have better designs for traps and rewards! This update also has improved the quality of the Dialog System npc characters use, for ease of use. This includes a larger font size, and better controls for easy dialog navigation. The Archer Class has been implemented in the game, however this is a dev implementation, the class is included as template for a future update wherein the class will receive it's own unique abilities and upgrades.
