- Small secret patch! - 23 April 2023
Hey all! Just a tiny patch with some little fixes to a few things: - Bulward's Gulk is now a lot more open, making it way less oppressive to play on - Fixed some issues with navigating fire - More bugs fixed Enjoy!
- Version 1.53 Patch Notes - 19 March 2023
Hi all! Been awhile since the last GWT patch but we've had a small influx of new players who have pointed out some pretty important bugs that needed fixing, so that's mostly what this is. The Alcove Prefex units missing from rescues *and* from caravan purchases was kind of a big deal - having them back in the game is going to make stuff a lot more interesting, especially in the campaign. We also had a couple of handmade maps that either had a bug associated with them (like Bill Milton got a little too excited to be on Milton Highway, and he would appear even if you were playing as a different faction!) or just some balance issues. Enjoy! - Fixed a bug that caused Alcove Prefex units not to spawn as random units in several places in the game where they should've. - Milton's Parkway map no longer has a weird Bill Milton on it - Deleted Armand Peak map (sometimes games are better when you…
- Made a small fix to input system! - 1 November 2022
If you've had a problem with your controllers messing with the game, should be fixed now! Basically at some point we began the process of implementing controller support for the game, but only got a little bit into the (actually quite huge) process. So some players who had multiple controllers plugged in were experiencing bugs because of that. We've now fixed that issue, so you should be able to play without any problems. As to controller support, it's something we'd love to add in a future patch if we have the capacity. No news on that yet. Thanks for playing!
- Version 1.52 - 11 July 2022
Hey y'all! My desire with this game is to make sure that Rank 20 matches are hard enough that the people in my discord can't beat them (to create headroom) and to make sure that Rank 1 was easy enough that no one I can find is unable to beat those. This patch is yet another in that search. I improved the code a lot RE: how enemies are spawned so I think you should be seeing a lot more consistent results now. Also, omni-golems never did their job and they were kind of hacky anyway. ENJOY! Patch Notes Heads up! The hardest parts of this game just got harder. Ranks 15-20 now have more units per enemy spawn, and some Omni-Mob units have their stats changed a bit. Also though, the easiest ranks should be even *easier*! So you may have to mess around and pick a new difficulty to find the right one for you. Let us know where you seem to have a good, balanced battle! - Omni-Golems removed from…
- 1.51a - a small fix to Ranked Mode - 7 June 2022
- Ranked Mode now uses randomly generated maps instead of handmade ones (that was a bug, oops!)

- Version 1.51 - New items, new hand-made maps, and other improvements - 25 May 2022
Hey y'all! Today we have a new Gem Wizards Tactics update rolling out. The most exciting thing about this was the inclusion of hand-made maps, with names and identity! I think these kinds of things go a long way to helping places in Gem Wizards Tactics really feel like places, and not just abstract collections of tiles. Let us know what you think of that! Also here's an article explaining these changes in detail! https://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/KeithBurgun/20220414/395671/Space_Narratives_A_Map_Generator_Denounces_Map_Generation.php In addition to that, we also have some new items and other QOL changes, as well as some updates to tooltips and the help screen. Enjoy!
- Version 1.50! Small bug fixes, QoL, analytics - 29 March 2022
Gem Wizards Tactics is now available on the Switch and XBox Series X|S! Also, we have two new exciting games in the works! Sign up for our mailing list at keithburgun.net to learn more about them! Version 1.50 - A new quality of life feature that prompts you if you try to end your turn without having selected all your units yet. - Added some analytics features - Several bug fixes
- Version 1.49! Omnigolem changes, bugfixes, polish, and more! - 3 March 2022
Hello everyone! This update actually has quite a large number of small bugfixes and stuff, but one of the biggest gameplay changes is a bunch of changes to Omni-Golems, which... just weren't exactly doing their jobs right before. I think these changes ought to help them do what they're meant to do a bit more, while also being a bit less disruptive. Also, I'm working hard on TWO new KBGames games. One of which is a tabletop card game (kind of a spiritual sequel to Dragon Bridge), and the other is, of course, Castle of the Secret Arts, a narrative deckbuilding/MTG 1P collectible card game. For updates on both of these, please make sure to sign up for my mailing list at https://www.keithburgun.net/signup. And, on top of that, we have a new BoardGameArena version of Dragon Bridge hitting BGA in the coming months. I'm really excited about that. Note about update schedules: The Steam version…
- Gem Wizards Tactics 1-Year Anniversary! - 16 February 2022
Today is Gem Wizards Tactics 1-year anniversary! So much has happened in this last year, and I'm really proud of the game that GWT has become in that time. Also, if you haven't noticed, Gem Wizards Tactics is now available on mobile platforms, and it's coming to Switch and XBox on the 18th! :O I've always dreamed of having a cool, original, challenging 1P strategy game that's truly cross platform, and by the end of this week, we'll have done it! We also have new features coming soon, more balance changes and other gameplay improvements, so even one year on, we're not done! Stay tuned for more updates. I also wanted to give everyone a heads up about my future projects, and how you can best stay tuned about them. I have two games in development currently. One is going to be another 1P digital game, although this one is a digital card game with a lot of narrative elements. I put up this vi…
- Version 1.48! - 11 January 2022
Hey y'all! As you probably know, Gem Wizards Tactics has come to iOS and Android! Definitely pick up a copy on those platforms if you like playing tactics games on your phone. As always, there's no in app purchases or anything like that. Also, Game Center and Google Play Games are supported. So definitely get on that! Some of these changes are specific to the mobile version, but we also have a bunch of balance changes, so Azure and Alcove players in particular, check it out. I'm also excited about the new JUKEBOX MODE, that allows you to randomize the songs while playing. More exciting stuff is around the corner, so stay tuned! 10 - You can't walk through a friendly tile if they're standing on glass (a rare situation) - Minor improvements for the Campaign Hub screen - In the in-game Options screen, you can now select "Randomize Songs" which will play a random song after your faction's s…
- GWT gets a new faction: the Alcove Prefex - 12 October 2021
Introducing the ALCOVE PREFEX, Gem Wizards Tactics' fifth faction! Because of how complex this game is, in terms of units, abilities, buffs and whatnot, and how original each faction is from each other, each "faction" is kind of huge. It's more like a new Starcraft faction than it is like a new Advance Wars faction, that's for sure. So when we launched with three factions, I thought that was a pretty decent amount of complexity for the game (same number as Starcraft!). But then we added the NEVERENDING PARTY to the game, and I was like, okay, now we have one MORE faction than Starcraft - that definitely ought to be enough. Development was starting to wind down a few months ago, after the addition of the map editor. And it was just then that our head tester Reschiiv (Emil Klarsson) approached me about designing a faction for the game! :O So now, here you have it, the first Gem Wizards Ta…
- NEW FACTION: The Alcove Prefex - now available on the Steam Beta Branch! - 3 October 2021
The fifth Gem Wizards Tactics faction has now been added to the game - currently over on the Beta branch. This faction has mechs, tanks, snipers, hackers, robots... you name it! It's really exciting. It's still a bit rough around the edges, so we're keeping it on the beta branch for now. But it's here and playable! I'd love your feedback! I should also let people know that in general, development on GWT has slowed down a lot over the past month, so if you were turned off by the rapid changes, now's a good time to get back into the game. Thanks and let us know what you think, over on the Discord or the Forums!
- GWT Gets a MAP EDITOR! - 15 September 2021
Hello everyone! Today is a historic day in Gem Wizards Tactics history: the game officially has a MAP EDITOR! You can now create, save, and load Gem Wizards Tactics maps, with whatever units, terrain or other stuff you might want to put in there. It also has some other cool features which might help you do whatever you're looking to do: - Turn on/off randomized combat (may be useful for, say, a puzzle map) - Turn on/off fog of war - Change the number of flags required to win - Add a MISSION TIMER - you need to win before X turns, or you lose. You can save your map to a .MAP file also so you can share it with friends! This should be a really fun thing to play with. It hasn't gotten a ton of testing yet, but it definitely works. Looking forward to hearing what you think, and what you'd like to see in the map editor. Send us your creations! I should give credit and mention that this map ed…
- Version 1.46 Patch Notes - 7 September 2021
We're getting to a pretty good place, I think, balance wise - both in terms of the four factions being balanced against each other, but also in terms of the easiest rank (rank 1) being sufficiently easy and the hardest rank (rank 20) being sufficiently hard. The next things that you'll see happening are the MAP EDITOR and CONTROLLER SUPPORT, and then we also have another huge awesome exciting update coming down the pipe at some later point, too. Lots of exciting things on the horizon for Gem Wizards Tactics! Good luck! Version 1.46 - Eve Williams no longer has Never-ender buff. - Gelf no longer has Phalanx buff. - Gelf base defense 3=>4 - Chill Step no longer freezes enemies between the origin and destination. - FLOE now counts as "road" for purposes of Wheeled type units. - Siege Attack now creates Scorch on only up to 3 of the tiles (randomly), not all. - Fix to flashing white sprite…
