- Uprising has lost funding - 25 October 2024
Hi Everyone, Unfortunately after lots and lots of internal testing, discussion, reworks and hard work. It got decided that this game will have its funding cut. It's something that every developer dreads to hear and I'm deeply saddened about this news. The reason for the funding cut is simple; we lacked the proper expertise to make a game such as this, we bit off more than we could chew. We all agreed that the idea of the game is solid, we all really fell in love with the concept of a riot game like this and I really want to thank the people that picked this up and gave us a chance.
- Alpha 1.5 Update - 20 December 2023
Welcome to our fifth and final patch of this year: Alpha 1.5 which is here to add a revamped Tutorial level. From this point on we'll be moving on to our next phase of development, no more working in 2-3 week sprints in order to fix bugs or make quality of life improvements, instead we'll be taking the biggest suggestions we like and developing them in quarterly updates. For this we're contracting a separate studio to help this endeavour and make sure we deliver the best possible content, to this end it looks like we've got a very exciting year ahead of us. To everyone here, thankyou for your continued support and we hope you have a very happy holiday.

- Post Launch Plan - 26 September 2023
I hope everyone is having a very pleasant pre-launch eve and I'm sure you're asking yourselves what Uprising will look like after release, here we've listed the rough outline of what each month will look like. More details will follow in the future regarding exact implementations as we don't want to make promises now that the community deems unimportant later.
- Insider Look: Improviser Class - 25 September 2023
Concept: A long time ago someone in a playtest came up with the idea of a handheld flamethrower in the form of an aerosol can, and it was so unstable that it should blow up the player when overused and we loved it too much to let go. Why we made it: After the Dog was announced for the Police, everyone asked "what's the protester equivalent"? A Pitbull seemed far too controversial and a Jack Russell seemed too rediculous even for the meme team, instead we looked the opposite way and decided to group all our most crazy weapon ideas into one class, the Improviser. Their in-game role: The ultimate crowd controller, whether he's hosing down officers with streams of fire, smacking people over the heads with a cactus or throwing Molotovs to cut off reinforcements. The Improviser is a force of pure chaos, just be sure to avoid 1v1s against the heavier, more competent fighters.
- Insider Look: Police Dog Class - 21 September 2023
Concept: Basically, a long time we had the idea of adding a Police dog but only as something to achieve in the far future after release, however, thanks to the guys at Moon Echo Studio they already had a German Shepard model fully modelled, rigged and animated ready for us to use. We just need to do the programming and add the Police vest. Why we made it: Everyone loved the idea of playing as a dog, it's highly unique to play as anything other than a humanoid in most games let alone online PvP. After that it became obvious that if we had the means to do it we definitely should, then it just became a design issue of how it should function in-game. Their in-game role: They're basically a missile with teeth; very mobile and fast across the map. However their lack of strafing and reversing makes them committed once they charge in and their long grapple times (whilst highly damaging) leaves…
- Insider Look: Paintballer Class - 19 September 2023
Concept: We had a tough time thinking of the protester equivalent of the rubber pellet shotgun and ended up with the idea of going full ham 'do-it-for-the-memes' mode with a highly accurate but low damage Paintball gun, death by a thousand cuts. Why we made it: Basically because it sounded fun and slightly hilarious to be peppering Police officers with these until they collapsed. But also it filled the big gap in the Protester arsenal of having a consistent ranged weapon that can dissuade the Support Officers. Their in-game role: Their main purpose will be suppression and assisting other teammates, keeping the enemy behind their shields and helping secure takedowns, their accuracy also plays a decent role in making sure other ranged users don't go unchallenged.
- Insider Look: Support Officer Class - 18 September 2023
Concept: We have the tanks, we have the assassins, now we want solid DPS in the form of a glass cannon, taking inspiration from other melee titles we wanted this class to be high risk and high reward. Why we made it: The idea of the Shotgun fits perfectly in this setting, allowing a welcome piece of variety in an almost entirely melee game but the sheer nature of the spread makes this a tool that you can't 'snipe' with, forcing the player to come close to the action, increasing both the risk and the reward. Their in-game role: The Shotgun is excellent crowd control and can be used to some effect vs players, however, their unpredictability and use of shields can make this an unfair fight. Their other weapon; the Tear Gas Launcher, is a fantastic method of area denial, allowing you to better defend objectives or remove flanking opportunities.
- Insider Look: Slasher Class - 15 September 2023
Concept: So for this we wanted the common bar brawler to have some solid representation with access to increasingly deadly weapons, inspired heavily by norf posting memes. Why we made it: Many of the Protester weapons are low power or 'meme-esk' and almost all of the equipment in Uprising as a whole is designed for non-lethal combat, in this case we wanted to break the mould and add something legitimately dangerous to add a bit of variety. Their in-game role: Straight DPS, a Slasher player should be causing as much damage as possible in the shortest amount of time, their lack of armour however makes them a glass cannon and their initial weapons are very short range.
- Insider Look: Suspect Apprehension Class - 14 September 2023
Concept: Not every officer carries super heavy armour and so we knew we had to represent a more regular design with access to a wider range of equipment. Stripping down the Police officer to his regular uniform seemed too lackluster so we ended up with the jacket and a half-helmet for extra beefiness. Why we made it: If the previous two classes are the 'Tanks' of Uprising, we needed an agile 'Assassin'. This way we can fill a gap for fast gameplay while also making space for the more exciting and exotic equipment that could be used in a riot setting including the telescopic baton and Taser. Their in-game role: Their usage of a medium shield and light armour makes them ideal for taking forward objectives, however their weaponry (while longer ranged) is generally unsuitable for crowd control. Rather a far better choice to support fellow Police or causing disarray behind the frontlines.
- Insider Look: Linebacker Class - 13 September 2023
Concept: After agreeing upon the Riot Control class we had the not-so-envious task of creating his equal within the ranks of the Protesters. After a while it became apparent that the armour and inherent 'cool factor' of a motorbiker would be the logical step. Why we made it: We consider the Police the cool team and the Protesters the meme team, however in this case we decided to even the odds and give players the chance to have a more serious role. Their in-game role: Like the Riot control, this is the only class to use a full-heavy shield, a very important method to put a stop to the rubber-pellet Shotguns and other ranged weapons that can be quite an oppressive tool for the enemy. If the enemy is sticking to shields then this class also has access to a Sledgehammer which crushes Stamina even for the Riot Control.
- Insider Look: Riot Control Class - 12 September 2023
Concept: When we first came up with the idea for Uprising it was of course built with the idea of riot police donning great shields with huge padded armour, this became our baseline to how the Police should look and play, as a serious, methodical force looking as cool as possible. Why we made it: While the in-game police will tend to use similar equipment to this class it felt only right to allow the player the chance to fill the boots of the iconic armoured riot police, in this case we can have the streets filled with this intimidating outfit with the player acting as their commanding officer. Their in-game role: Riot Control is meant to be the bread and butter of any Police team, a super-heavy unit that can halt any advance and act as a counter to the Protesters highly accurate projectiles.
- The Road to Release - 27 August 2023
So today marks exactly one month until Uprising releases, at times it's felt like this day would never come and as you might expect it's kind of nerve wracking to see the big day so clearly in sight. Right now we're working on bugs and tweaks to make sure it's the best possible experience on launch, taking a deep dive into how the game works and asking the question "yeah, but what would make this even a little bit better" and we'll be asking the same question to you guys in upcoming final playtests and even after launch. As we prepare for the 27th of September we'll be continuing to iterate and improve upon the current design, we'll be looking to work towards seasonal content releases and planning how these will look post launch. Community collaboration and feedback is at the core of 1st impact games and we want you to feel like your voice is being heard, join our Discord to make sure t…
