- Steam Next Fest Demo & In-Game Trophy Event - 15 June 2026
Steam Next Fest Demo & In-Game Trophy Event Steam Next Fest is one of the most important events of the year for indie games, and Nocturne has a brand new demo created specifically for Next Fest. For those who don't know, Steam Next Fest is a week long event hosted by Valve where upcoming games with playable demos have the opportunity to be discovered by millions of people. Here's why it's so important...The number of unique demo plays and wishlists Nocturne receives between June 15th and 22nd directly impacts how the Algorithm ranks the game in this event. The higher the ranking, the more organic visibility Nocturne gets, which means more people discovering the game for the first time.I genuinely cannot overstate how much of a difference this one week can make. It has the potential to put Nocturne in front of millions of players, and that kind of exposure could change everything. So if yo…

- Items and Consumables - 20 May 2026
Items in Nocturne are designed to give you meaningful choices (and tough decisions) in the middle of an intense Rhythm battle. So with the upcoming new demo releasing in June on Steam, Nocturne is getting a complete overhaul of its items and equipment and I think it's going to change how you approach each battle. Builds and PlaystylesAt its heart, Nocturne's combat is about reading the rhythm and striking at the right moment. But your equipped items determine what "the right moment" even means for you. Some items reward patience, holding your energy until you can unleash a devastating attack. Others reward aggression, striking the instant you have an attack available and never letting up.There are three core combat paths in Nocturne, and they're mutually exclusive. You can't land a critical hit, an energy attack, and a riposte all at once. You have to choose.CriticalsPatience rewarded: T…
- How Combat Works - 4 May 2026
Before I jump into the details, and backstory, with how I settled on the combat mechanics for Nocturne, I want to give you the heads up there are some game mechanics mentioned here that only appear later in the game, but there are no story spoilers. That being said, if you don’t want to know about ANYTHING that will be featured later in the game, do not read this post. If you’re okay with learning about some combat mechanics that appear in later chapters, then this blog is safe to read.Starting from ScratchFrom the beginning, Nocturne was always meant to blend RPG and Rhythm, but I didn't want to compromise the core rhythm elements by distilling them down to musically timed attacks or quick time events. I needed something that felt both like a traditional RPG and a complete rhythm game.So I started with pure rhythm first. I made playing cool songs the absolute forefront of the gameplay,…
- Release Date Update - 27 April 2026
I've got a "Good News / Bad News" situation here. Since we're all gamers, I thought I'd give everyone a dialogue option, so you can decide which order you read the news in. Hover the spoiler tags in the order you'd like. GOOD NEWSNew content is coming to the demo on June 1st! For the first time ever, a piece of Chapter 2 will be available to play. Plus, you'll be able to experience The Arcade, so you can battle all the enemies again without needing to hunt them down in the world. And due to popular demand, I'm also adding the entirety of Chapter 1 back into the demo, so there'll be a good 2 hours of content here, with all the replayability of The Arcade. An important warning though: save files will not transfer over to the full game. And if you decided to read the Good News first, it's time to hold your breath for the Bad News... BAD NEWS Nocturne's release date has been moved to Septembe…
- The Arcade & Difficulty Options - 20 April 2026
If you've been following Nocturne's development for any length of time, you'll know that the music is a core part of the game. Every enemy encounter is a rhythm battle and by the time you're done with the story, you'll have worked your way through 101 original tracks (if you find and defeat every enemy that is).But I get asked all the time how it’ll work if someone wants to go back to play a specific enemy again. Will you need to play through the story again? Will you need to load an older save?Introducing: The ArcadeHow it WorksFirst up, the Arcade isn't a menu option. It's a physical location you can visit in Nocturne's main city, (which you'll reach early in Chapter 2). You'll literally play tracks on an old school arcade machine. Any enemy you've already defeated in the Overworld will have its track available for you to replay as many times as you like. Your highscore is saved for e…

- Demo Softlock Patch - 29 August 2024
If you found yourself unable to progress past the New Game screen, or had a softlock during any of our Tutorials, we've just released a small demo patch to fix those issues. The Satoru fight will no longer softlock even under the most laggy conditions. Fixed an issue where some OS languages (such as Turkish) wouldn't allow you to create a new game. Being defeated by Kimothy and Satoru no longer breaks some SFX. You can always find the latest updates to the demo build on our website. If you have any bugs you'd like to report, click the "Bugs & Feedback" button in game. Or let us know on discord.
