The abrupt end to work on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre game just two years after its arrival was a sad moment for horror fans and publisher Gun alike. Its level of polish and distinctive 4v3 format stood out from the crowd, and went some way towards correcting the perpetual matchmaking imbalance faced by asymmetrical horror games like Dead By Daylight. Unfortunately, rising development costs meant updates were ultimately halted. Gun Interactive CEO Wes Keltner tells us the decision was made to avoid releasing "mediocre content" and to "prioritize my employees," but admits that he would handle investment differently if he could go back in time. Although it's been a modest success on Steam, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre deserves more attention. Mechanically, it puts a smart, sinister spin on Dead By Daylight, pitting multiple survivors (or, as the game refers to them, 'victims') against a trio of killers, each of them outfitted with unique, sometimes complementary abilities. More significantly, developer Gun goes to great lengths to capture the visuals and atmosphere of the original 1974 movie - if film-to-game adaptations have a reputation for being low-effort cash ins, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is up there with notable exceptions like Alien Isolation. Earlier in the life of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, we made the decision to remove the ability for another Family member to instant kill a victim involved in a close encounter with a teammate. We had made that decision because we felt it was unfair to Victim gameplay. With community feedback and our own internal thoughts, we’ve decided to rework grapples in a way we feel makes more sense. Each character will now have a grappling value assigned to them to determine their effectiveness in a close encounter. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a grim title filled with absolutely excruciating murders, and it just launched a new mode, at least for players who have bought the game's content pass.
