- July 2026 Update - 27 July 2026
Hello everyone - here's a nice update that adds new capabilities, to add some more fun and make cargo deliveries more productive.Cargo can now be transported to several destinations around the Island by using the new Coastal Cargo Ship. For example, a large load of supplies can be picked up in the seaport and taken to the Hidden Cove warehouse - a convenient location to supply the factories on the North Shore. Products can then be collected there for transport back to the seaport. The ship can be refuelled at various locations, and maintenance is done in the slip on the north side of the Boat Yard building.Hidden Cove is also home to a new float plane operation. It's inspired by the bush plane operations found along the Pacific coast. For now, the plane is located at the Hidden Cove Warehouse dock - until the pilots build a proper base for their service! It can be refuelled and maintain…
- June 2026 Update - 12 June 2026
Hello everyone - here's the latest update for Whiskey Island! Following along with the rivers, lakes, and waterfalls that were added last time, I've now added the Ocean around the Island. And apparently, there's quite a breeze blowing out there, as you can see, by the waves crashing about. Good thing there are a few sheltered bays and harbours for boats! The fishing boat (there's just the one boat for now, which I'm using to develop the marine systems) has been outfitted with a few new items - including navigation lights, a spot light, a bell, and a horn. The boat now has a dashboard with working instruments including a compass. The boat is also buoyant and will bob about happily on the waves, which is lots of fun when challenging the larger waves roiling the sea. And yes - the fishing nets and buoys which mark the best fishing grounds are also buoyant. Still to come, though ... the actu…
- April 2026 Update - 23 April 2026
Hello everyone - the upgrade this month includes improvements to the game-map, artwork, textures, UI, cameras, and the player controller systems. The most visible changes on Whiskey Island include installation of lakes, rivers, and waterfalls. You might be interested that several of the waterfalls have pools suitable for a cool plunge, great for relaxing after a day delivering cargo!
- March 2026 Update - 18 March 2026
This Spring I would like to focus more on art direction - the visual aspects of the game - beginning with the artwork, textures, and layouts of buildings. This update includes improvements to the exteriors and interiors of buildings, and the introduction of an interactive lighting system for building interiors ... also known as light switches! The buildings with improvements include:Engine-house (the building with the Train repair bays)Vehicle Garage (... Truck and Car repair bays)Aircraft Hangar (... Aircraft repair bay)Boat Yard (... Vessel repair bays)Townsite Depot - a new interior + exterior upgradesSmall and Large Sheds - exterior upgradesLight switches are operated by walking up to the switch on the wall; when the UI indicator appears in the lower left of the screen, select the 'O' key on the keyboard to turn the circuit on / off.
- Update Jan 4, 2026 - 4 January 2026
Update Jan 4, 2026
- September 2022 Update - with camera system + performance improvements - 2 September 2022
The Fall season is now arriving, which is always a nice time to take pictures, so work on Whiskey Island this month focuses upon the camera system and a few other smaller projects. Changes to the camera system include: standard camera assignment / selections for all equipment (vehicles, trains, vessels, and planes), Camera 2 now has a zoom feature using the mouse scroll wheel, The automatic re-centre of Camera 2 can now be disabled with the Left-Mouse-Button, The camera selection list (below the top bar) can now be hidden with the 'V' key on the keyboard, which also controls visibility of instrument and gauge overlays (use the game options menu to "pin" the selection menu if you prefer). In addition to various changes to improve performance, the Firewood Loader structure (to refuel locomotives) has been upgraded with new meshes and textures, and the back bumper on locomotive #1's tender…
- Locomotive, Railcar, and Cargo Upgrades - August 2022 - 27 July 2022
This latest update includes improvements to locomotives (Rusty and Dutchess), railcars, and cargos with new details and textures. Locomotives Upgrades: Previously, Rusty and Dutchess shared a common body type (the same model of locomotive), and while they still share many components, they are now modelled and textured as unique individuals. A special detail has also been added to all the steam locomotive boilers - selecting the letter 'P' on the keyboard will now open / close the boiler door to reveal the fire burning within. The locomotive must be activated by the player to see this feature. To recap a few of the locomotive controls (tip: the front / back headlights are direction-of-travel dependent): Q = bell E = whistle I = headlights P = boiler door Railcar Upgrades: The railcar fleet has also been upgraded with new details and textures, which provide for a more realistic appearance…
- July 2022 ~ Update Now Available - 1 July 2022
Whoah Nellie! A new aircraft is now available to try out - it's a small, single seat speed machine called Little Nellie, and can be found at the airfield next to the biplane. Along with a few code improvements and a bit of detail work on the Warehouse type building, I've also experimented a bit with GAMEPAD support. If you have a Gamepad, you can try to operate player-controlled vehicles, vessels (the Fishing Boat), and aircraft ... mostly just the steering and the throttle for now. The gamepad controls for vehicles and vessels are pretty standard: left thumbstick for steering / throttle, and right thumbstick for cameras (orbiting cameras only), and the gamepad 'X' for brakes. It's a bit different for aircraft - left thumbstick for pitch and roll, L1 and R1 for rudder / tailwheel steering, the gamepad 'square' and 'circle' to control the throttle, and the gamepad 'X' for brakes. Note -…
- March 2022 Update - with New Marine Industries! - 19 March 2022
Spring is here with another major update to Whiskey Island! I've added new Marine Industries including a Fishing Cove, a Cannery, Fishing Supplies Workshop, and a Boatyard, as well as a Fishing Boat and new 'Fish Net', 'Fresh Fish' and 'Seafood Products' cargo types. Players can now operate Trucks, Trains, an Aircraft, and a Boat to harvest and haul cargo around the Island. The new Marine Industries are located along the rugged North-west shore of the Island, just north of the Grain Elevator and Maple Sugar Farm. A small fishing cove is the new home for the Island's fishing industry. Try out the Fishing Boat by picking up a net at the Fishing Supplies Workshop, then head to the nearby fishing grounds (marked by special buoys) to try your luck. Your fresh fish can be taken back to the unloading dock in the cove, or delivered to the Cannery dock. The nearby Boatyard is where to go for mai…
- Time to Fly! - 12 February 2022
Whiskey Island has a few new features which were added this month: Airfield area with a Grass Runway Airfield Building with a Hangar Repair Bay Airfield Tender Truck Biplane There's a completely new transportation mode available on Whiskey Island - aeroplanes! A new airfield has been constructed on the Peninsula Road near North Beach. It has a fancy new hangar building where a Biplane is now based. The Biplane is tricky to fly and will probably take a few attempts to learn how to smoothly take off, and even more to master the art of landing. The trick to landing is to make a gradual, shallow approach at a slow speed - but not too slow or the plane will stall. In a similar way to other vehicles, if all else fails, the Biplane can be relocated to the hangar Repair Bay by selecting the relocation button on the Biplane's equipment inventory panel (select 'R' on the keyboard to display the i…
- January 2022 - New Content Additions! - 27 January 2022
Whiskey Island has a few new features which were added this month: New Locomotive New Railway Speeder New Scrapyard Building New Scrap Cargo New Cargo Ship Special Task Assignments Train Lights Cargo Manifests Keyboard Changes There are a few new things at the engine house to try out - a new locomotive has been added to the game (really an "old" locomotive), which will be useful for shunting cars around the Seaport. Also at the engine house is a new railway Speeder which can be used to inspect the track. The engine house now has windows and doors (I'm still experimenting with how to add those to buildings so it's a bit of a trial). A new Scrap Yard building is located on the shoreline across the road from the Engine House. Special Scrap cargo can be found is various, random locations around Island. Use trucks to carry them to the Scrap Yard for a delivery payment. Once there is enough s…
- 3 New Trucks and a Race Car now In-Game - 27 December 2021
It's a great way to finish the year with new vehicles added and some great upgrades! The new vehicles include a fire truck, a farm truck, another depot hack, and a race car to zip around the island. The vehicles now have headlights, brake lights, horns, and a subtle engine audio. Also, a new "power steering" system has been added to the vehicles to help with steering control at higher speeds, which is especially useful when using the keyboard to steer (the WASD keys). It dampens steering angles at higher speeds to reduce the chance of suddenly veering off the road - be sure to adjust speed based on how sharp a corner is! The new key controls are 'I" (the 'letter next to 'U') to toggle headlights on / off, 'O' to activate special lights (like the flashing lights on the fire truck or the hazard lights on the tow truck), and 'P' to activate special audio (like the siren on the fire truck).…
- New Distillery Truck now In-Game - 21 April 2021
The new Distillery Truck vehicle is now in-game ... it's a useful vehicle for those errands to get a few extra resources and trips to make a quick delivery. It can only carry cargo used by the Distillery, and is parked in the Distillery yard, ready to try out. The Island Map has been modified in some locations to make room for a few new buildings. Three warehouse are now available to store cargo - the existing Townsite Warehouses (near the Seaport), and the new North Beach Warehouse (near the Distillery) and the Hidden Cove Warehouse (near the Cooperage). Another new building is the Hot Springs Resort, accessible only by rail. Alas, it is closed for the season pending up-coming developments ... any guesses? Trucks and railcars can now transfer cargo to and from warehouse buildings using the new Warehouse Transfer System for cargo. It's a very useful way to transport cargo, allowing "loc…
- New Tow-Truck Now In-Game - 19 February 2021
The new Tow-Truck vehicle is now in-game ... for those challenging situations where a helping hand is a welcome thing. It's a bit experimental at this point, limited to connections where the Tow-Truck can reach a disabled vehicle and make close contact to the front or back bumper. Use it to pull vehicles back onto the road, off railway tracks, from terrain misadventures, or to bring them back to the Vehicle Garage for maintenance and refuelling. Towing trailers is currently not supported (that's what tractors are for!). The Tow-Truck is parked by the Vehicle Garage, ready to try out. As part of this Update, a few UI pop-up menus have been tidied up and some details have been added to Locomotive 1 in preparation for an interactive cab-control system which is in the planning / coding stage. In keeping with the spirit of "Early-Access" a new experimental "concept testing" area is also now…
- Some Upgrades and Fixes - 17 January 2021
This upgrades includes: 1. fixed: Depot Truck not visible in-game after upgrading to Beta 1.3. The issue was traced to an incorrect vehicle index number in the saved game data, and has been corrected. 2. fixed: Tractor-Trailer cargo not reloading when continuing game. The issue was related to issue 1 and has been corrected (the Depot Hack was inadvertently using the same index number as the trailer). 3. fixed: bridge abutment protruding from terrain on the Observatory Road. A wall has been added to blend the bridge into the terrain. 4. upgraded: various cameras on vehicles and Train #1 have been added, changed, or improved. Camera #2 on vehicles can now orbit the vehicle to provide better views while picking up and delivering cargo, and turning in confined spaces. The End B camera on Train #1 can be slightly moved to provide a better view of the rear coupler area. New cameras include vi…
- Fixing a few Issues - 15 January 2021
This update addresses a few issues that have been identified: - fixed: train suddenly stopped at certain locations while travelling; although it could be restarted, it would then becomes a 'run-away' which stopped responding to controls. The issue was traced to the unplanned activation of railcar coupler triggers which detect end-of-track buffers on sidings, and has been corrected. - patched: Tractor-Trailer vehicle does not re-spawn in the correct location when loading a saved game. The issue was traced to the way trailers are connected. A temporary fix has been employed pending planned changes to the way vehicle trailers are connected. In the meantime, the patch seems to work well, though for best results, before saving a game (on exit) try to park the Tractor-Trailer on a flat area with a the trailer aligned behind the cab, just like your commercial driving instructor always told you…
- New Tractor-Trailer Truck !!! - 11 January 2021
The new Tractor-Trailer vehicle is now in-game ... it's a challenge to drive and transport cargo, and a lot of fun bouncing over the roads! The trailer can carry up to 3 cargo units and is useful for those long-haul deliveries ... but beware, the narrow Observatory Road will be very challenging if you have to reverse back down the mountain. It's parked by the Seaport, ready to try out. As part of this Update, the Map View camera has been improved by adding a Zoom feature and labels for buildings and equipment. Select 'M' on your keyboard to try it out. There are also changes to the Birds-eye View camera system which now features changing viewpoints as you drive around the Island. It has a cleaner screen without labels, and like the Map View camera will also show where the player is when walking. Select 'B' on your keyboard to try the new camera system. Thank you for supporting Whiskey I…
