Starting today, every three days we will conduct a poll featuring various questions that will shape the design and creation of the next three fictional multiplayer maps for Combat Mission. These new maps will be brought to life by the talented Usually Hapless, who will use the community's responses from the polls to guide his creative process. Another of Battlefront's popular WEGO military sim/wargames, Combat Mission: Black Sea (CMBS) is being released on Steam today. It's the second of the company's stable to make this leap, following Combat Mission: Shock Force 2 (CMSF2) which was released late last year thanks to a new publishing partnership with with Matrix Games/Slitherine. CMBS was first launched in 2014 and covers a fictional war in Ukraine between NATO, Russian and Ukrainian forces. Like CMSF (which takes place in Syria) it was developed before the real conflicts in the Ukraine and Syria took place and doesn't represent the real war. These suspiciously prophetic coincidences do suggest, however, that if Battlefront ever does a game about a zombie apocalypse then it's probably time to run for the hills. Battlefront and Slitherine have been working in the last few years to deliver Combat Mission on Steam and in August 2020 they co-published Combat Mission Shock Force 2. Combat Mission Black Sea, which was originally published in 2015 on Battlefront site is now coming on Steam with the DLC "Battle Pack 1". This DLC includes two new campaigns, as well as six standalone scenarios and 27 new Quick Battle maps. Both Black Sea and the DLC will be available on our store starting from January 21st

Last year we were treated to a new partnership between Matrix Games/Slitherine & Battlefront which brought Combat Mission: Shock Force 2 to steam. This isn't the only modern-era WEGO tactical wargame that the studio has made, however, and today the pair have announced that Combat Mission: Black Sea will also be coming to Steam in late January. Black Sea, one of our favourite Combat Mission games, depicts a series of escalations between Russia and the Ukraine resulting in open conflict in the summer of 2017 (the game was first developed in 2009, but wasn't actually finalised until after the real invasion in 2014). It is a fictional scenario, and thus is not supposed to resemble the real life event, nor can it simulate the events that have unfolded since then.
