- Scramble: Battle of Britain - Designing v1.0: Meet the JU88 - 17 August 2026
Scramble received its first twin engine bomber, the Dornier 17, back in 2025, and along with the Dornier came a whole suite of dogfight mechanics to support bomber attack gameplay. Today we want to highlight our second twin engine Luftwaffe bomber, the Junkers 88, soon to join Scramble. The Origins of JU88The Ju 88 was originally developed as a fast bomber capable of outrunning enemy interceptors. The pre-war prototype aircraft was indeed fast, exciting the head of the Luftwaffe over its tactical prospects, but the engineering compromises and ambitions required to upgrade the airframe to an operational asset meant that the Ju 88 entered World War II at speeds still vulnerable to enemy interceptors. Behind the GameplayOur Ju 88 in Scramble is the fastest bomber in the game, and any Ju 88s left unbothered will quickly escape the area of play and advance to their targets. The Ju 88 realize…
- Scramble: Battle of Britain - Designing v1.0: Dynamic Soundtrack - 8 July 2026
Scramble: Battle of Britain will ship with a dynamic soundtrack that responds to the action around your airplanes in planning, simulation, and replay phases of your dogfights. We have been fortunate to work with a brilliant composer, Ash Gibson Greig, to find a set of instruments and style to serve as the musical language of the Scramble airspace.Capturing the Feeling of the DogfightsScramble: Battle of Britain exists exclusively in the sky and the player has full analog control over dynamic curving flight paths and, despite spending a lot of playtime paused for planning, players need to experience the Scramble airspace as alive and simulating. With these physical realities as a guide we asked Ash to compose the base layer of our songs with a fluidity and persistent sense of lift that reminds the player that even their “paused” sky of airplanes is inherently in motion. Scramble dogfight…

Back in December last year, we launched our Squadron Leader Game Mode, which lets players step into the shoes of a WWII leader and manage a squadron through a 30-day single-player campaign, learning how to combine different pilot traits, when to send people on leave, and how to rebuild a balanced crew after casualties.Squadron Leader quickly became one of the most played and appreciated parts of our Early Access journey, and ever since, we’ve been thinking about how to take it to the next level.Today, with the Pilots & Squadron Update, we’re expanding on that foundation, adding deeper improvements to both the squadron and pilot layers. What’s New in the Pilots & Squadron Update? We’ve introduced a number of systems and mechanics that shape how pilots behave, grow, and impact your squadron:Newly created squadrons will be populated with pilots of varying experience levels and sortie counts.…
- A Lens On: Battle of Britain - EP.4 | How did Pilots outmaneuver their enemies? - 15 July 2025
The last episode of our documentary series is out now. In Episode 4, we discuss the evolution of Air Combat in the Battle of Britain. At the start of the conflict, the RAF relied on outdated WWI tactics like standing patrols, leaving them at a disadvantage against the more advanced German Luftwaffe. But Britain’s pilots and leaders quickly adapted, introducing innovative formations and strategies that changed the course of air combat. Sailor Malan and Douglas Bader revolutionized air combat with the "finger four" formation, while strategic debates like Bader’s "big wing" theory shaped RAF tactics. Aces like Bader and Robert Stanford Tuck led Britain’s defense in the skies. A Lens On is a documentary-style editorial series that uses our games to explore historical events, featuring interviews and insights.Featuring expert insights from historians Victoria Taylor and Paul Beaver, alongsid…

A major update has just landed in Scramble: Battle of Britain, and with it comes a new challenge for RAF pilots: the Dornier 17, one of the Luftwaffe’s most iconic twin-engine bombers, is now available as an AI-controlled enemy in the core game! With the arrival of the Do 17, we’re introducing a brand-new layer of tactical complexity to bomber engagements. Players will encounter this new threat in fresh missions featuring enhanced mechanics and an improved UI that will help to track, intercept, and break up the new enemy formations. We have reinforced every aspect of bomber intercept missions in Scramble. Pilots may now find bombers escorted by enemy fighters who join the dogfight on a turn delay. A Lens On is a documentary-style editorial series that uses our games to explore historical events, featuring interviews and insights. Episode 2 uncovers the hidden mental battles pilots faced in the skies. The Battle of Britain was a multinational fight for survival, with 20% of RAF pilots being overseas volunteers. By August 30, 1940, the RAF flew up to 1,000 sorties daily, while the Luftwaffe struggled with mounting stress and high suicide rates. Unlike German pilots, Allied airmen received rest periods to manage exhaustion. Featuring expert insights from historians Victoria Taylor and Paul Beaver, alongside exclusive commentary from the game’s Lead Developer Jon Coughlin, this series reveals the strategy, innovation, and sheer courage that defined the battle. A special thanks to the RAF Museum in Biggin Hill (UK) and to the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar for the opportunity to conduct…
