- We Harvest Shadows Launch Update - 11 May 2026
Yes, I am still alive! Believe it or not, I’m working long hours on We Harvest Shadows almost every day. I really am putting my all into this project, and I’m really happy with how it’s turning out. I can’t wait for you to play when it’s finally ready.I get a lot of questions (some critical, and rightfully so), and I’ll answer them here and hopefully explain where all the time is going.Q: Why did you announce the game and release a demo when there was so much work left?A: I truly thought the game would be ready within a year of the demo announcement in August 2024. I didn’t have the money to stretch it any longer anyways. But then something really incredible happened: THE DEMO EXPLODED! So many people came out to support it, including famous streamers who personally wanted to bankroll the whole project. I had the amazing luck to pick any publisher I wanted. So, I went with my dream publ…
- Dev Update #5: An update - 21 October 2025
Hi friends, David here, and yes, I am still alive! I am still working on We Harvest Shadows almost every day. I have six contractors who are helping lots too. I just wanted to post something and let you know that this isn’t a dead game... it’s just something I want to take my time on and to make sure it’s bug-free, fun, and memorable. We’re getting closer to reaching that goal each day.I will admit that this game is much more complicated than I thought. This has been by far the most complex project I have ever endured. Some days are not very fun and I start to question all my life choices up to this point... but some days are full of pure inspiration. I get genuinely excited thinking about how you, the player, will react to all these crazy things we’re planning for you! I am sacrificing a lot to make sure I finish this project, so just know I’m doing my best and I think the game will be…
- Dev Update #4: Why It's Taking a While - 4 June 2025
Hi everyone, David here again! Believe it or not, it's almost been a year since I revealed We Harvest Shadows to the world at gamescom 2024. It honestly bums me out a bit because I had been working on this game for about three years prior to the announcement, and I'm realizing there's a lot left to do. I really wanted the game to be out by now, but unfortunately I need more time. I wanted to explain the situation, because ultimately it all comes back to one big decision I made a while back. So, the demo came out, it was a hit, my dreams were coming true, and I was super grateful for that. But I really didn't know if the game would garner any attention before that moment. My other games and online school were barely making money, so we were withdrawing tens of thousands of dollars from my retirement account. It was a pretty stressful time... and luckily, the gamble paid off. My game almo…
- We Harvest Shadows is both a rustic PT and a first-person Stardew Valley - 20 May 2025
About 30 minutes into the demo for We Harvest Shadows a picture appeared on my wall, just by the farmhouse main entrance. The picture is of a long hallway of nested door frames, with a sealed door at the end. Any mystery it offers is, in theory, cancelled by the tutorials, which briskly informed me that the picture is, essentially, an alarm system. It will change in subtle and less subtle ways when danger is nearby. Still, this blunt advertisement of mechanical purpose does nothing to dispel the artefact's menace. It's right opposite the stairs, so that I can't avoid seeing it every morning unless I walk down the stairs backwards, and if I do that, I'm leaving myself vulnerable to anything else that might be waiting in the front hall or the kitchen to the right. - Dev Update #3: Trying Something New with Horror - 26 March 2025
Hi everyone, David here with a new update. There are so many cool things happening with We Harvest Shadows, but unfortunately I can't share anything yet. BUT just know that we're working hard and some amazing things are happening that will make this the best game I could have envisioned. I need more time though, but the wait will be worth it. I wanted to talk about my goals for the horror and atmosphere in We Harvest Shadows. I always wanted this to be a story and character focused game, but the psychological horror elements are key to Garrett's journey. His inner-demons and greatest fears physically manifest on this farm (but why does that happen? You'll have to play and find out 😉) I always wanted this game to be a totally different type of horror experience. A24 films have popularized a new subgenre called neo-horror (and I love those films), so I thought "why can't there be a neo-h…
- Dev Update #2: What's Your Favorite Fishing System? - 23 January 2025
Hey everyone, David here, letting you know that development is going swimmingly for We Harvest Shadows. I wanted to show off some of the new fishing system, but I also would love to get your feedback on the kind of fishing systems from other games you love. I really don't know the best direction to take this in, so some ideas would be really appreciated. First off, when is this game coming out? I get this question a lot, and I wanted to let you know that there is no official release date yet. I'm sorry that it's a disappointing non-answer, but I'm also grateful that people love the demo so much and want the full game ASAP. However, if I released this game as it stands, it seriously would not be fun or enjoyable. I want to make sure it's as good, fulfilling, and bug-free as possible, so I need more time (at least a year). I hope you understand, but the wait will be worth it. I'll try my…
- Dev Update #1: ATV and Exploration - 26 November 2024
Hey everyone, I wanted to give you an update on We Harvest Shadows and let you know that so many cool things are happening. I can't go into specifics yet, but if there was a best case scenario for finding a great partner to make the game fantastic, then it's (probably) happening. At first, I was wondering if I should make the game "decent" and get it done fast, but now I've decided that I want to make it the best version of itself, which means I'll need more time and a publisher to make it happen. I think some people were hoping to play the full game really soon, but I'm humbly asking for more time as we work on the full version and make it an unforgettable gaming experience. I'm sorry for the long wait, but it will be worth it. I would be heartbroken if I released a buggy, unoptimized mess, and it took away from the full story and experience. Thanks for your patience! Anyways, we're wo…
- Please consider supporting me and We Harvest Shadows - 7 October 2024
Thank you for 190,000 wishlists! Everything has gone better than I could have possibly imagined, and it's all thanks to you. Me and Elise just got back from the Tokyo Game Show, and Japan is officially my new favorite place. I really miss eating breakfast at 7-11 and meeting people at the show. I even met Gronkh! A big reason my game is doing well is because of content creators. Thanks to everyone who's uploaded content about the game, I owe you everything. I do have an important update for We Harvest Shadows (WHS), and I like being transparent, but I don't want to ramble or bore people too much, so... Here's the TL;DR first: WHS will get made! I feel like I need a publisher's help to make the game live up to the enormous hype. Even though I hope to get a publishing deal eventually, I am out of savings now, so instead of doing a Kickstarter, I'm asking you to consider buying a seat to m…
- Thank you for 60,000 wishlists + a big question I need to ask you - 2 September 2024
Thirteen days ago, I sat in the live audience of Opening Night Live in Germany while I watched the pre-show announcement of my game from my phone. Everything since then has gone better than I could imagine... THANK YOU for believing in this weird game idea and supporting me! Before the announcement, I actually got a lot of feedback from publishers and playtesters that this game just wasn't gonna work, and that it was a bad idea. I really had no clue if people would resonate with it, so it almost moves me to tears to hear that people like it so far. A lot of beloved content creators have praised the demo already, and even Sam Lake from Remedy said he loves it. It's so insane to work in secret for two years and hear stuff like that. I am extremely fortunate. There are still a lot of bugs to fix, which is my #1 priority. Any feedback you leave in the forums will be seen by me, and if you h…
