- The core dev team members - 4 June 2026
Hello again my friends! This time, I want to share with you the core members of the Apopia dev team.Beside me as the director of the game, we also got Ricky the programmer and Hanna the art director.I still remember where it all started. It was in 2016 when Ricky and I started exploring different ideas of game dev. We are childhood friends and we both have the passion to make a game. His background is programming while mine is art and design. So our skill sets were a perfect match for a game dev startup.I remember we had our earliest meetings in Starbucks right next to his home and the place where I worked at that time. We met quite frequently to share our ideas, vision and eventually, we came up with the idea: Apopia.Ricky was the sole programmer of the entire game. Which was literally insane. Imagine spending most of your time in 10 years on just a single program. Then, 10 years passed…

- How was everything done Part 1 - The steps & the tools - 12 May 2026
Hello my friends! Today, I'd like to share with you the procedure of developing Apopia and the tools that we used. First of all, the tasks can be broken down into: 1. Step Outline2. Script writing3. Design4. Level design5. Implementation6. Character animation7. BG and UI illustration8. Cut scenes9. Music and sound effects10. Testing and debugMy plan was to make the development as smooth as possible. I hope that there's no "waiting" for any members in the team. Therefore, I have separated the entire scope of the game into Chapters. First, I began writing the script for Chapter1. I used a tool called Miro to write the ENTIRE script of Apopia. At this stage, I didn't need every line to be finalized because I wanted the art team and Ricky can begin work earlier. For the animations, we used Adobe Animate to handle ALL the character motions. While the BGs and UI were done with Photoshop and C…

- Illustrating the Environment of Apopia - 24 April 2026
Hello my friends!Today, I want to share with you our process of illustrating the environment of Apopia. I'm going to be 100% transparent and honest with you... actually, we were NOT confident about this task at all!You know, our development began in 2017. At that time, Ricky and I only had the idea of The Cave and The World outside...As you can see, the only more solid scene at that time was The Cave. So, the development of the world actually began there. Before making game, my background was all about animations. However, as I began designing Apopia, I realize that developing a BG for game is totally different from animations. And I personally do not consider myself someone who has a very good art sense. Therefore, I found it extremely difficult to illustrate a good BG for Apopia. So, what I did, was spending LOTS of time and effort, keey trying and trying until I get the result that I c…

- Sharing a few very early screen caps and sketches - 20 April 2026
Hi my friends! It has been a month since the release of the game. I’m so grateful to see your feedbacks and the fact that many of you have enjoyed the game. We won’t stop here, there’re still a lot of things to happen in the near future. And we won’t stop making the game better!Today, I’d want to share a few very early screen caps and sketches of the game. As you can see, we have tried to make it a 3D game before 🤣 we have also explored the possibility of making it a more action oriented game. So, you may ask, and I have also been asked a lot of times in interviews: Why Point-and-click? Why so many mini-games?A short answer is: Because it has to be.For all the decisions I make, I always ask myself “Why?”. For the game genre, the goal is to deliver the story and emotions efficiently. And Point-and-click is the best way to go. And for all the particular moments in game, I feel like there’s…
- Added popup reminder UI when a gamepad is connected after the game is running - 13 April 2026
Hello gamers! I have added a popup reminder UI when a gamepad is plugged in after the game has already started. This is because some players reported that certain gamepad models may not work properly if connected after the game is running. Therefore, please connect the gamepad before starting the game to ensure it is fully supported. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Happy gaming!
- Big Improvement! - 13 April 2026
Hello gamers! This patch contains many subtle updates! I originally planned to release them across several smaller patches, but for some reason I wasn’t able to update the game last week. So I have packed everything into this one update: Added a popup reminder UI when a gamepad is plugged in after the game has already started. This is because some players reported that certain gamepad models may not work properly if connected after the game is running. Optimized the overall game size. Optimized the sizes of multiple UI elements. Improved loading times between scenes. Miscellaneous minor fixes to artworks, animations, and colliders. Hope these updates help you enjoy the game even more! Happy gaming!
- Some earliest design of the characters - 10 April 2026
Hey guys! I want to show you guys the very early design of Mai, Nico and their friends 🤣🤣and some earliest design of Black Guards. These very early sketches were done in 2017/1/1. back then Mai totally looked differently. I wanted the game to be about visiting numerous locations and planets. We didn’t even have any clue about how to position our game genre yet. Just some very very very primitive ideas about the world of Apopia. If you guys are interested, I’ll continue to share more exclusive funny contents about the development of Apopia here! 🤭Yours,OnonDirector, Apopia

- VSync added - 1 April 2026
Hello gamers! I am very sorry for adding VSync so late. This should have been in the game from the very beginning. The reason was that, technically speaking, an old plugin had somehow overridden the VSync setting in the game. Fortunately, the issue has now been resolved, and the game looks much better. However, if VSync is somehow still not working on your side, please let us know.Happy gaming!
- Added accessibility to an audio puzzle - 27 March 2026
Hello gamers! We have received feedback that an audio puzzle in the game might be too difficult to solve using audio alone. So we have added some visualization to that part. Rest assured, we simply added a visual way to solve the puzzle, but the puzzle itself is no less challenging than before! Happy gaming!
- Fixed a few glitches - 26 March 2026
Hello gamers! This patch fixes a few glitches, namely: A rare camera-positiong issue when waking up from one of the Dark Worlds. A minimap positioning error in a certain part (no spoiler here =p) when loading the game. The inconsistence of showing or hiding a trap door graphic. In one of the Dark Worlds, a glitch that prevented climbing a rope when interacting with it from certain positions. The drop of framerate when AtAt starts moving in one of the minigames. We're sorry these glitches occured earlier. Thanks to your help, reports, and support, we were able to track them down and fix them. If any of the issues persist on your side, or if you run into anything else, please let us know. We'll always keep polishing the game, and fix any issues we can find or you help us find. Happy gaming!

- Now the game has been released for more than two weeks. - 19 March 2026
Hi everyone,Now the game has been released for more than two weeks. I’m very grateful to finally see how players really feel about my game. You know, for eight years all those emotions in the game have been only within me. I could only keep writing, working and writing and working. Until last week, I finally received reviews and messages from my players. Telling me how they loved the game and the story resonates with them. I’m very very grateful to all of them. That’s the very reason that I made this game. We don’t need to see each other’s with our eyes. But as I opened my heart to write those lines, WE are connected, emotionally. I also want to express my gratitude to everyone that played my game. Thank you!!
