  • ARDENT AZUR: THE ANIMATION (DEVLOG #3) - 25 March 2026

Hello everyone!Already the 3rd DevLog episode, and today we’re going to talk about animation, especially attack animations. Other games in the genre often feature very polished attack cutscenes, but over time, they can become time-consuming. Even though they usually only last between 5 and 10 seconds, when repeated hundreds of times throughout a campaign, they start to weigh on the flow of gameplay. As a result, most hardcore players end up disabling these animations. But guess what: knowing my resources (none) and the size of the team (1), I knew from the start that creating such animations wouldn’t be possible. However, some level of animation, even minimal, is necessary! So, I rolled up my sleeves and set out to uncover the secrets of animation.Let’s be honest, we’re far from Miyazaki-level quality, but the result is still solid and, most importantly, perfectly clear for the player. I…

  • MAKING HEADS SPIN (DEVLOG #2) - 11 March 2026

Hi everyone! I hope you’re doing well as winter comes to an end. In the previous devlog, I explained that the game still needed some polishing touches before being put into the hands of the public. I specifically addressed the UI, and that part is now almost complete, or at least well underway. There are no more scaling issues, and the game is finally playable on all popular resolutions. I also took the opportunity to rework some visuals and add a few animations to make everything look nicer. With that done, I’ve started tackling another very important part of Ardent Azur: the cutscenes. As you might guess, given my resources (none) and the team size (1), these won’t be cutscenes worthy of MGS, but rather short animations with small top-down characters. Animating the characters isn’t extremely difficult, pixel art is forgiving and I can create basic animations with only 9 different sprit…

  • NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP! (DEVLOG #1) - 24 February 2026

Hello everyone, I hope you’re doing well!If you’re reading this, it means you showed interest in Ardent Azur at some point, whether it was two weeks ago or four years ago (some of you are incredibly patient!).I’ve never been very good at keeping people updated, whether about myself or the game, but that changes today! I’ll do my best to publish one of these devlogs every two weeks (plans may shift) to keep you informed about the progress I’m making on Ardent Azur, and to answer questions if I receive any.So, where do we stand today?Ardent Azur was rebooted at the beginning of last year, and progress has been going strong ever since. The game is now almost complete in terms of core mechanics, and every unit is already implemented (except for Commanders). This means we’re getting very, very close to a playable demo, and I can’t wait to share it with you soon. However, the game still lacks…
