- Developer’s Log - February 2024 - 4 March 2024
Hey, everyone! It’s that time again - another DED update for y’all. This one is smaller than last month’s, but we’re still trucking along nicely. NEXT FEST After opting in and out of Steam’s Next Fest more than once in the past couple of years - we’ve decided to opt-in and stay in to this year’s - kicking off in June 2024. This means that a demo will be available in the middle of April, followed by a full release some time after Next Fest. Next Fest allows for some potentially good visibility for indie games, but it also serves for me personally as an accountability tool with strict deadlines. I look forward to being able to present more new content as we push towards the summer months. SCREENSHOTS & NEW TRAILER You may have noticed that the Steam Page has had a good visual facelift, and is more focused on getting across a deeper understanding of the game is and how it plays. But it’s n…
- Developer’s Log - January 2024 - 2 February 2024
What’s up, everybody! Here’s the first update of the year on Dog Eat Dog: Scam to Survive. I’m happy to say it’s been a productive month - let me outline where we’re at…! Systems There have been a few worthwhile changes on the backend: First, the ‘Penalties and Payouts’ system that fires after the player succeeds in a scam is now a far more efficient event. All the math happens in one place, and the code is easier to read as a result. Hooray. Following that, all cut-scenes have been rebuilt using the new comic builder function that was added to the project towards the end of last year. This script makes spinning up one of four different types of cut-scenes really easy. I no longer have to meticulously position pictures, render text boxes as pictures, or animate each individual object. This is already saving me so much time with new scenes. Visual A bunch of older backgrounds and scenes…
- Happy New Year! [Brief Update] - 4 January 2024
Happy New Year, everyone! It feels necessary to give an obligatory ‘this game is still alive and well’ dev update, so that’s exactly what this is. Last year served us some highs, but also an unfortunate myriad of setbacks - over-scoping meant the game had blown up far away from its initial concept in 2021. Now, the game is pulling back to sit between '21's concept and for what DED will become in 2024. I’m excited and confident that we’ll release the game this year. We have a clear vision for the project, and the most problematic mechanics - those that failed to serve the gameplay in a particularly fun or interesting way - have been axed. We'll definitely go into more details on the next proper devlog. Thank you to everyone who’s stuck with us and engaged on social media about the project! See y’all with another update soon as we move towards v0.5. -codapill
- 0.4. A Reworked Art Style & Completed Soundtrack - 15 March 2023
Yes, yes, yes -- it's been a while. 🙂 I've been chipping away hard at DED for the past few months especially, and now just felt like a good time to present some new material! The game's in great shape with the first act mostly completed. I'm really proud of how it's come together -- I honestly can't wait for people to play through it (and the other two acts, obviously!). I'm glad I've been giving the game the depth and treatment it needs; with such sensitive themes, I wouldn't want to rush something like this. Artwork So with regards to recent improvements/changes, I've been developing my art skills lately, and with that - I decided to draw out and detail the city of VONA to replace the previous - more basic look. Old: New: To me, this feels like a colossal improvement. The 'Old' shot was by no means final, but there was definitely a lot of effort there, and I'd almost accepted that wa…
