  • Patch Notes for May 28th - 28 May 2024

Hey all! Pushing a patch live while I'm cooking dinner, no big deal. Come on over and eat up these sweet Surmount fixes. Changes Reimplemented the random number generation for level generation to make them more deterministic across devices to better reproduce the results of different seeds. Fix for players staying super heavy after being grabbed by another player. Disabled Unity Graphics Jobs which might help with memory-related crashes in DX11 on certain combinations of video cards/graphics drivers. Fixes for more instances where the generated path is inaccessible or hard to traverse. Fix for menu's instantly closing if rebound to the Select or Start buttons. Fix for crash wen restarting the bird race in Zone 3. Fix for scrolling sound that keeps playing even when reached end of scroll view. Moved dialogue flag earlier into CatOwner's dialogue. Set maximum width for generated water as…

  • Update Notes for May 24th - 24 May 2024

Just a little update to get you going for the weekend! Thanks for the bug reports, folks! Changes Fixed the mesh for anchor points being invisible. Fixed launching cannons shooting the player off in various weird directions because they were hardsetting the rotation of the player. Fix for a "Continue game" function being called after continuing a suspended run, causing the player's items to be reset. Hid the expedition flags in two levels in the instances they should not be seen. Made it less likely to spawn on top of or very close to a pit in Zone 3. Fix for spamming the pause menu sometimes making the players invisible. Mysterious asset compression stuff.

  • Update Notes for May 22nd - 22 May 2024

Hello everyone! Today we have a big version increase from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1, AMAZING, I know. This is because we're preparing for another switch patch which benefits from splitting up the updates in big chunky numbers. Anyway! Some fun fixes and even new features for today! Changes Added Online Leaderboards for the Daily Mountain challenge! To help you with the daily mountain you now get two random Spirit Powers to help you! Fixed the player's progress sometimes not being correctly loaded into the current player when continuing a suspended run. Fixed a bug where jumping while rolling in a ball on the ground would shoot you in strange directions. Fixed a bug where grabbing physics objects with two hands and then releasing in a pattern would allow you to fly all over the map with them. Fixes for the altimeter sometimes not showing what you'd expect. Fixes for the incorrect time being shown f…

  • Update Notes for May 16th - 16 May 2024

Mostly just a little hotfix for yesterday's big patch! Changes Made the ejection checking a little bit less zealous. This was causing some players to jump at unexpected times when the system thought they were completely overlapping the wall. Cosmetics unlocked from expeditions are now automatically granted whenever a save file is loaded. They are also set to unlocked more rigidly. The amount of usable items you keep when starting a new run is now capped. (Max of 3 per item type) Made the teleporter a item a lot more fun. Can now go through walls and has a big indicator to show where you will appear again. Spikes placed in lines are less likely to extend much farther than they were intended to.

  • Update Notes for May 15th - 15 May 2024

Hello everyone! I was off to a games festival for a couple of days, it really refreshed my batteries! So here are more fixes for the bugs submitted by players like YOU. Changes Can now suspend your game from any base camp. Just select Go to Main Menu from either New Tully or a base camp on the mountain! Fix for a bug that would sometimes not save your gems and items when you suspended your game. Added a new character to every base camp that will allow you to preview which story characters are currently on the mountain. This costs a small fee and will make a certain tough achievement more easy to get. Made saving behaviour more consistent. Adjusted spawn positions for a bunch of chunks to make it less likely players spawn in weird positions at the beginning of a route. Reduced faint timer of Pulse Crystals in Zone 4. New algorithm for finding a way out when the player gets stuck inside g…

  • Update Notes for May 8th - 8 May 2024

Not a lot of bullet points today, because we're tackling some deep under the hood Unity stuff. Changes Fixed a bug that would cause the loading times to increase slightly with every retry, freezing the game if players retried enough. Addressed a Unity physics bug that would cause so many events it would overwhelm the system and bring down the frames per seconds to single digits. Put catches for this type of behaviour in place and added a watchdog function that will reload a level if it ever becomes too severe to play the game. Fixed Zone 3 only picking one of the possible templates when building a level. Added missing flags for missions to play in time trial mode.

  • Update Notes for May 7th - 7 May 2024

Hello everyone! Thank you all for the bug reports! We were able to squash some major ones in this update! Changes Parachute opens automatically and has more uses. You keep usable items when choosing to continue after a death or retrying an expedition. Wearable equipment is still lost upon death. (Testing this out to see if it would be a good change!) Fix for players inadvertently teleporting back to origin when trying to get unstuck from geometry. Disallow for the player to get temperature effects while they are in an UI screen. Fix for bug which would cause the previous scene to still be loaded when starting a quest from inside a building. Daily Mountain now runs on the same savefile as your main progression, to avoid possible overwriting of unlocks. (Such as cosmetics from the gachapon machine and quests) Redesigned Zone 4 routing, so it's less likely people become lost. Fixed people…

  • Update Notes for May 5th - 5 May 2024

Hey all! Come and get your daily set of patches and bugfixes! Changes Fixed a big issue where some people would get stuck on wait times in dialogue if their system's locale didn't recognize '.' as a valid decimal point. Reworked the rope winching between co-op players a bit. The bottom player can now hold jump to shorten the rope! Fixed the invisible options menu for real this time. Fixed bug where you wouldn't get the correct starting items upon restarting a mission. Fixed an issue where the players wouldn't get their totem slots from Mr. Mountain. Fixed an issue where some people got stuck on the dialogue in one of the ending cutscenes. Reworked the detection for the player getting stuck in rocks. Made it so that it will try to get the player out a couple of times before reloading the entire scene. Disabled being able to open the pause menu on the boot screen.

  • Update Notes for May 4th - 4 May 2024

Some more changes to address bugs reported by you lovely people! Changes Changed player start position for the race against the bird in Zone 1. Re-balanced meteor rain in Zone 4. Rewrote the way delays work dialogue again to hopefully fix the bug with people getting stuck in cutscenes. Made sure that Balloon Festival's expedition is added to the bulletin board. Made more functions not dependent on your system's locale. This fixed players not being able to load into the bus intro scene on PC's with the system language set to Turkish. Made it much less likely to get stuck in a loop of teleporting the player to fix a Unity physics bug. All players faint in the intro with the demon. Hopefully fixed the options menu sometimes not appearing. Fixed an issue where the framerate was no longer capped correctly after setting quality setting to Highest.

  • Update Notes for May 3rd - 3 May 2024

Just some quick fixes to address some bugs that you all encountered! Thank you all for reporting these issues! If you find anything else, don't hesitate to let us know! Changes Fixed an issue where players would get stuck during delays in NPC cutscenes. Fixed an issue where the pause menu would be invisible. Fixed the control bindings not being saved. Made it so that the internal render scale is set to 1X for the Highest quality mode. (To avoid Moiré patterns in dithering) Fixed wrong time display for runs on the daily mountain. Fixed occurrences where found equipment items couldn't be equipped. Adjusted difficulty for a mission in Zone 2.

  • Surmount is part of TinyTeams! - 3 August 2023

Hello there climbers! You might not know this, but Surmount is made by a very small team, me (Jonas) and Jasper are the sole developers. I do the art and Jasper do the programming, the rest is pretty much 50/50. But we've also got a few friends to help us out. The talented Ryan Yoshikami, who also does the music for Loddlenaut, makes all the music for Surmount. He did a wonderful job, after hundreds of hours in Zone 1 I'm still not tired of hearing the soothing tunes he composed. On audio we've got Rumsklang, which is Viktor Eidhagen and Marcus Nilsson. They also did the audio for TOEM, which was an IGF Finalist for "Excellence in Audio." The game really came to life when they gave it their Magic Touch Of Noise (beautiful noise). So overall there's been 5 pairs of hands working on various aspects of the game. Why am I telling you this? Because we're part of TinyTeams! It's an event all…
