Obnoxious and grabby, he is the local diner’s owner and a nightmare of a boss to work with for Louise. Stingy with cash, he respects no one, all the less his employees, and is always on the lookout for the next longest pair of legs. Hutt has a private stash of dirty mags all the waitresses know about. They say there's no shame in hard work but dignity must be preserved. And as you've seen, Louise kne…

From people who Louise used to consider friends to sworn enemies and finally, tentative new relationships - we hope you are eager to learn more with every new post! Some say the mother is one who values our existence more than our accomplishments. Some, however, may have it twisted on their way. Let's meet Margaret, then. Louise and Kathy’s controlling and emotionally distant mother. She cares about the family’s reputation and social standing above anything else, least of all her daughters’ well-being. Her husband left the family years ago, apparently walking out on them with no warning. Deeply devoted to the Church, Margaret treats Father Judd as a close family friend who can do no wrong. Despite his failing health, Elijah continues to keep all members of the household on a tight, short leash. He carves up time into army-like rituals to preserve discipline. He lives together with his…

Hello there, friends! Once again we'd like to welcome you to our weekly update, where we introduce a colorful menagerie of personalities, big and small, that Louise and Mitch encounter on their life-changing voyage through the USA in the 1960s. Today you will meet some members of Louise's family. Many say blood is thicker than water - but does the saying really hold true? Or is the full proverb version more akin to the truth - the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb? Louise’s elder sister. She is rather meek and tries to stay out of trouble as much as possible to preserve the somewhat shaky peace and quiet at the rural home ruled by her maternal grandfather and controlling mother. Her husband has fallen in Vietnam, and Kathy set up a small shrine to preserve his memory. She cares deeply for Butch, whom she tries to shield from further trauma, and explains away al…
