- Bug Fixes - 20 July 2026
Patch release, mostly just bugfixes. Someone had submitted a series of bug reports for bugs that can happen in uncommon situations. Thanks to the person who submitted those. Incidentally, that person also informed me of the existence of a glitch but didn't tell me what it was, because the glitch was "fun". Well, nice try. There is also a fix for a few lighting anomalies I noticed (most obviously seen in the mirror in Lance's house, where the mirror world was sometimes way too bright). Turned out in a few places I was using an outdoor shader indoors, or vice versa. The mirror world lighting still is not correct, but the issues are less noticeable. (Yeah, yeah, cue the "Wait, you mean the Ditty of Carmeana has lighting??" jokes.)
- Should've made a hotpatch the fix... - 2 July 2026
Yesterday I released a patch, and reported that I did not have time to test a game engine change I had made to my satisfaction. And, welp, this happened: a crash as you exit the Palace after your briefing (and I believe one or two other situations as well). Guess I should've done the hotpatch. Anyway, fix is up now. As always, a very big thank you to the people who submitted the crash report on that. And again, no typo fixes.
- Patch for very bad visual issue - 1 July 2026
I just noticed a very bad visual issue and am releasing a quick patch. (The issue is only evident in one point of any significance, but it's a pretty big moment in the game.) Problem is I made a minor engine change in the meantime, that I'd have liked to test more. (What's that you say? I should just hotpatch the visual fix onto release? You're just taking nonsense now. It'd be kind of a lot anyway since it would involve undoing some things in Blender.) On the bright side, no typo fixes.
- Lance now has his own room! - 20 June 2026
Yes, I decided to make a release just to get out this all-important feature. Some of you, I'm sure, have noticed that recently I added the interior of Lance's house to the game, but Lance didn't didn't have his own bedroom. Now he does! ---- And, of course, I keep rolling that boulder up the hill on typos.
- If you're not careful, you could end up in the lim(bo)inal space... - 8 June 2026
The Ditty of Carmeana is on sale. June 8–June 15 and June 25–July 9.Come play the game the where one wrong step can send you falling—often literally—into that strange, incomprehensible in-between place....A place so inexplicable that some things only make sense there... (as commonly referenced in certain exclamations)A world that's everywhere bleak and monocolor... (until you've contemplated your life a bit and earned a few flowers, anyway)Where everything you know and every experience you have had from your normal life is meaningless...And, where lurking behind the doorway is the scariest thing of all... capitalists. On sale in the Steam Store. June 8–June 15 and June 25–July 9.Fine print: The above images don't remotely capture the vibe of the game. However they are all, in fact, screen shots from the game, with overlays removed,
- Crash Fix, Street Names, and some new Vids - 22 May 2026
This update has been delayed for almost five weeks due to computer issues, which meant I couldn't run my test suite, but it's finally here.Changes:Crash fix for a rare situation that can occur during a conversation. Big thank you to the person who submitted that crash report; these sporadic, rare crashes are very difficult to debug and fix without crash reports. For some reason, I decided to give names to all the streets in Bowtudgel City. And I made a bunch of street signs and put them in the capital. These street signs have no effect on the game whatsoever. Fun fact. While implementing this, I learned that in Europe, unlike America, they don't generally put street signs on signposts. If they even bother, they'll usually stick the sign on the side of a nearby building. America wins this one.Lots and lots of typo fixes, as usualAlso want to announce that we got some new community stuff t…
- Some new interactions at the bank, and a bunch of bug fixes - 30 March 2026
Some of the changes in latest update Some additional interactions at the bank. Hooked up the volume controls to the new sound library. The vertical proximity for which R.O.N.S. can become aware of Tabitha had been set to be way too high, the R.O.N.S. have terrible peripheral vision. This is now more reasonable. Updated Game Controller DB Misc fixes As always, several typos Hooking up the volume controls was kind of funny. A few months ago, I updated the game to use new, more modern libraries, including a new sound library. But there was one thing about the new, not-all-that-well documented sound library that I couldn't figure out: how to manage the volume of each class of sounds (i.e., music, voice, effect) with a single volume setting. I was starting to think I'd have to painstakingly track every playing sound and adjust the volume on each one individually. At last I had an epiphany, a…
- Minor bugfix release - 8 February 2026
Some fixes related to issues with the recent game engine improvements. And some fixes for issues that were there before. And, as usual, a couple typos.I have to say I'm pretty happy with the rollout if the game engine improvements, most of the issues are pretty minor.I received several crash reports on my Discord server, so thank you to everyone who sent those.Biggest fixes:The sound library is a little less robust than the old one, and I realized that was leading to crashes in some circumstances. I added a fix. There was a (probably) longstanding issue where you could just walk into the Baron's Chateau without proving to the guards that you were a University of Chingaim graduate, this is fixed.Optional Reading, SpoilersI would like to explain the second issue a little more. Before this fix, you didn't actually have to talk to Deiter and Werner, the guards blocking the door to the Chatea…
- Beta changes now part of default branch - 17 January 2026
For the last month or three, I have been maintaining and testing an experimental branch of the game with a bunch changes, mainly changes to the game engine, but some content additions as well.Today, that change goes live.In my testing, I observed that the engine changes result in significantly less CPU usage. (I suspect an update to the version of Python and switching to SoLoud for sound are both be contributing to this.)Also, there is a bit of new content and some minor improvements. Plus the usual barrage of typo fixes. And probably crashes, because engine changes. There's a new crash reporting system: it no longer requires you to send a crash report over email, you'll be asked if you'd like to post a crash report via Discord.(For anyone who ran experimental, thank you; I did get a handful of crash reports. I expect to still throw updates into the experimental branch, from time to time…

One of the doors that in the town that has always been locked is now unlocked. That new area does absolutely nothing right now, all you can do it look around. I'm planning to maybe do something with it in the future though. There are probably also a lot of bugs. It's a beta release. To see these , right now you have to switch to Experimental Beta release. (Click the gear icon for Ditty in Steam, select Properties, in the Betas planel select "experimental" for your Beta Participation,) Then restart Steam because God forbid it would automatically update it for you.
- Experimental Beta Release - 19 November 2025
As many of you know, I've been developing the Ditty of Carmeana for a long time. And it turns out, when you've been developing a game so long, some of the software used in the game and the toolchain can end up being on the old side, unless you are very on top of things. Which I was not.Well, it turns out obsolete software can be a big maintenance burden, so I spent some time upgrading the game's dependencies to be not embarrassingly obsolete. To give these new updates a spin before I inflict send it out to everyone, I have created an Experimental Beta branch. It's the same game as the main branch, but new versions of some underlying software.I am also planning to use the Experimental Beta branch to test other game engine changes and minor content updates. So if you do play the Experimental Beta branch, you might get an advance preview of some small updates or additions.Another thing: if…
- Useless DLC Release: Artifact Pack 1 - 7 November 2025
So, I thought it would be fun to make some new items for the pot and stick em in the game. That thought turned out to be on the optimistic side, but I did finish it, and here it is.Artifact Pack 1 35 New artifacts you can find in pots in the Ditty of Carmeana. Exciting, huh?(Also it's more money than it really ought to be, but that's Steam's minimum pricing for you.)

Fix for a crash a user reported. That's it.
- After years of patch updates just to fix typos, I finally ran a spell checker - 17 July 2025
Found about three dozen spelling errors. This change also includes a small addition I made to add a little bit more breadth to the world.

The Ditty of Carmeana has never been discounted by more than 50%, and we never had any plans to ever do so. - Fix for a crash when talking to Tabitha - 9 June 2025
There is crash that occurs when asking Tabitha a question in certain situations. This has been removed. Thanks to the user who submitted a crash report, a little thing any one of you can do to help improve others' Ditty of Carmeana experience. Other fixes: A couple typo corrections (less than usual), a note advising people who equip things using Tabitha's Inventory App that they can use the Equipment menu instead (that nobody will heed), and a couple tweaks to Gozamata.
- Another minor update to add more hand-holding - 17 May 2025
Minor update. Cora now takes a slightly more proactive role in battle. Slightly. And another barrage of typo fixes.
- Crash fixes, and a new setting for streamers - 23 April 2025
Fixed a couple crashes related to the new content, thanks to those who sent me crash reports. Plus, a new setting useful to people streaming the game. And the usual barrage of typo fixes. Crash Fixes Now, I want to emphasize something. One of the crashes occurs only if you missed something very, very obvious, and you got that crash, you should be a ashamed of yourself. The other crash was sporadic, and only happens in rare cases when you're in the library. Probably you didn't see this, and if you did you restarted you weren't able to reproduce it since it's sporadic and rare. New Setting for Streamers Another thing I added was a setting to reserve the bottom-left or bottom-right corner of the screen to put your webcam and/or animated avatar in. The caption box will be moved out of the way, thus benevolently allowing (or cruelly forcing) people watching the video to read the full caption…
- A New Major Sidequest and Other Major Changes - 12 March 2025
At long last, I have implemented one of the "Future DLC" areas in the game. The new content is a major side quest at the University of Chingaim LIbrary. You don't have to buy the new content, it will be delivered as part of a regular update. Murder Mystery Side Quest A murder has taken place at the library. A member of the library staff has been found dead, having fallen from the library's roof under highly suspicious circumstances. For some reason, the person they want to solve this mystery is you, who is in the middle of a highly urgent quest to Rescue the Princess™. She's only the crown princess and heir apparent, and the last thing standing between peace and a succession crisis. But no big deal, she can wait. You have time to solve a murder on the side. But the mystery deepens as murders continue to pile up, all on account of a rare and mysterious book, and you're in the middle of i…
