- The teaser is live - 4 August 2026
The teaser for The Beast Awoke to Eat Your Darlings is live — top of the store page, above the screenshots.Thirty seconds, all of it in-engine. It opens the way most runs do — with the Beast catching you — and shows what happens next: the game offers help, you turn it down, and the run that follows outsmarts the Beast instead of outrunning it, all the way to the elevator, the cats, and a score screen that pays you for the help you refused. The music and every sound in it come straight from the game. For anyone new here: the nightmares have cats in cages, the Beast runs on rules you can learn, and the way out is at the top of the tallest building. Dying isn’t punished — the game offers you more help each time, and refusing the offer is what scores. Demo arrives in October’s Next Fest; launch is October 27.If you haven't wishlisted yet, now is a good time — for a solo launch, wishlists are…
- The Beast is nearly done. New screenshots, and what happens next. - 28 July 2026
BATEYD — The Beast Awoke to Eat Your Darlings — is nearly finished. If you’re just arriving: it’s a horror game you outsmart, not survive. Everything in its nightmares runs on rules you can learn. Sentinels fire a flare when they see you. A flare always brings the Beast. A hungry Beast eats a steak before it hunts a cat. Pet a Sentinel from behind and it melts into a puddle of beer, which is a trap, because the Beast doesn’t look where it’s running. None of this changes between attempts. That’s the point — you can plan.Dying is fine, by the way. Die, and the game offers you more help. Refuse the help, and it scores you higher. The page has a fresh set of screenshots as of this month — cemetery, school, rave, the park, and one cat in an elevator. What happens next: a teaser trailer very soon, a playable demo in Steam Next Fest this October, and launch on October 27 — into Halloween week, wh…

Today I'm going through a full playthrough! The biggest change from last time is an optimization pass, with proper graphics settings that adapts to your machine and a game that looks nice regardless of settings. It now runs at a decent framerate on a RTX 1060, and possibly on lower specs too (this playthrough is happening on a RTX 3060 laptop). The scoring screen and system has been completely overhauled, and that's also a reason for the whole playthrough -- need to start getting references to set up the different thresholds for unlocking memories. And of course, the usual slew of bug fixes and little improvements here and there. Feel free to drop a message in the chat if you got comments or questions. Hope you enjoy!

When you get catnip, cats follow you -- which is paramount as you need to save them! However, "cats following you" is fun only as long as you can see them. I made some changes that make this possible, from a camera that automatically gets farther away the more cats are following you, and with a cat following behavior that's more likely to get the cats on screen rather than just behind you.
