  • Adventure delayed until 2027 - 27 August 2026

Hey everyone! We know we've been rather silent for a while... Our focus is to get the best game made, as fast as we can. And since there's only 2 of us, that tends to result in reduced communications, since we're spending all our time on working on the game itself...AnnouncementThe short of the announcement is that we're now targeting 2027 for our release date. Why the delay? The longer the journey goes, the more we realize how massive a project Pathbreakers is turning out to be. Tons of complex systems, tons of art, sprites, animations... multiple hundreds of sound effects... The scope of everything has grown a lot since we started working on Pathbreakers, and while it's making for an awesome looking game, it's also taking a while. We were tentatively hoping to release in 2026, but it's not looking realistic at this point. If we're perfectly honest, the release date has always been more o…

  • Devlog #10: Dungeons - 24 April 2026

While most of your adventures will take place on the overworld of the Stormtossed Isle, there’s a special kind of content for your mercenary company to face: Dungeons! In this devlog, we’ll give you a preview of what to expect when delving into these dungeons, and how it differs from exploring the rest of the isle. What are dungeons? In devlog #8, we told you that when the world randomly generated, there would be various towns scattered across the land. Alongside these towns and natural features like mountains & forests, dangerous dungeons will appear, ready for your crew to conquer and subdue them! How do you interact with them? Instead of a normal combat encounter, where you field around 8 to 10 mercenaries, you are prompted to pick only 4 units to take into the dungeon. Who you pick is of crucial importance, since you’ll need to navigate a series of challenges, both in and outside of…

  • Devlog #9 - Gearing Up - 16 February 2026

Adventuring in the Stormtossed Isle is not a feat for everybody, let alone for careless mercenaries who do not gear up before departing for the next adventure…In today’s devlog for Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades, we will discuss a core element that will accompany all of your playthroughs–the equipment system. For an RPG, it is crucial to know and understand how getting better items and equipment works. Without proper gear, your party’s defense and offensive power will be lower and, at times, too low to face a dungeon or a specific enemy. Reading this devlog will definitely give you an advantage to begin your adventure in the best possible way! \Understanding the gear slotsBefore diving into the specifics, it’s necessary to specify that, in Pathbreakers, you will find lots of different gear types. This means that your units have access to weapons, armors, and consumables that they can equip…

  • Devlog #8 - Towns & Factions - 14 January 2026

Hey everyone! We are kicking off 2026 with a brand-new devlog! This month, we will be talking about the towns and factions you will encounter during your adventure in Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades. Before starting, we will give you an introductory explanation about how our game is structured and why you need to know: the Stormtossed Isle is a procedurally generated world, meaning that every time you start a new journey, the towns will differ from your last playthrough (amongst other things). However, you can rest assured that you will always find the 25-30 populated villages needed for the main campaign. Many factors affect the contents of towns, such as their size, environment and, quite importantly, their faction. As every town is controlled by a faction, it’s a big topic, so we will be diving deeper into them in the paragraph below. The Isle’s main (civilized) factionsAs we stated bef…

  • Devlog #7 - Status Effects - 4 December 2025

In a past devlog, we went through the combat system of Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades, including how strategic you can be by exploiting the environment and positioning to your advantage. However, we did not dive deep into one of the foundational pillars when it comes to this genre: the status effects. For Pathbreakers, we decided to have a smaller amount of buffs and debuffs and keep them more streamlined. This does not, however, mean that they will be bland to play with. Quite the contrary: with the way skills can be altered by ability modifiers, we end up with more complex permutations of debuffs and buffs in a sense.Generally speaking, when it comes to the debuffs, you can expect to pick up the system quickly and easily in the early game, and discover more complexities as your characters gain levels and start getting access to more passives and modifiers. As the game progresses, you’ll…

  • Hooded Horse's latest strategy RPG looks like some Final Fantasy mercs invaded the world of Battle Brothers - 26 November 2025

I've been savouring the modest upsurge in turn-based strategy games about savage and malodorous bands of mercenaries, not least because it accompanies wordlarking as fine as this . Here to join the screaming pile of gushing throats and grazed elbows is Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades , the latest from Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark developers 6 Eyes Studio. Hooded Horse have just announced that they're publishing it, which is lovely because it means I can write about a horse game this week that hasn't been banned from Steam for infringing upon Valve's ever-elastic content policies. There are no scenes of iniquity so far in Roaming Blades, just good, wholesome disembowelment and the chance to blow up lingering balls of lightning. Here's the trailer. Read more

Hey everyone! We are thrilled to announce that we will be partnering with Hooded Horse for the development of Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades! • Devlog #6 - Building your party - 3 November 2025

Building your party is one of the fundamental and defining aspects of Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades, and this makes it a lengthy topic to discuss. There are many things to consider when assembling your group of mercenaries, but in this devlog, we will dive into the process you will face when picking the members and how they will serve you in battle, and the roles they play outside of combat.By default, you can field up to 8 units in battle and maintain a total roster of 14, though certain Company perks can expand these numbers. Picking the right roles and itemsWe want to preface that many of the things we are going to discuss are ultimately based on personal preference and playstyle. We’ll be focusing on setups that would appeal to most players, but we are eager to see which combinations and “meta” you will be able to find and exploit!A well-rounded party usually starts with strong front…

  • Devlog #5 - The Story - 6 October 2025

Every journey into the Stormtossed Isle begins with a choice. Who will lead your band of mercenaries, guiding them through danger, intrigue, and discovery? In Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades, this decision takes the form of your avatar: a figure who stands apart from the battlefield, shaping the fate of the group from the sidelines. The avatar is not just any mercenary unit you can find during your adventure. They’re born leaders and are responsible for the well-being of your party. It’s your duty, as the one controlling the avatar’s actions, to oversee not only the combat strategies and equipment of your companions, but also to chart their course through the Isle to keep them fed and paid. The AvatarsEach avatar comes with its own unique story. Some are bound by curses, others by duty, vengeance, or ambition. Their traits and decisions leave their mark on your campaign, influencing the path…

  • Devlog #4.4 - The Swamp Dwellers - 27 August 2025

The Stormtossed Isle has many biomes, including dangerous and murky swamps. The flooded lands might be too inhospitable for civilization, but that's not preventing monsters from dwelling there; actually, it’s thanks to the absence of humans that the creatures can make these humid areas their home. Many different aberrations can be encountered while traveling across these muddy terrains, and in today’s devlog, we will discuss them, providing information about their habits and combat skills. Let’s take a deep dive, not in the swamp, and let’s discover who the Swamp Dwellers are in the world of Pathbreakers! The MawksThe Mawks are ravenous, man-sized froglike creatures with high hostility levels and a rapid rate of growth. Even their youngest, the tadpole-like mawkspawns, are aggressive and jump right into battle whenever any prey is encountered, and humans are absolutely not exempt from th…

  • Devlog #4.3 - The Crystal Bearers - 4 August 2025

Greetings Adventurers! Today, we are unveiling some of the most mysterious magical beings you will find on the Stormtossed Isle - the Crystal Bearers. To understand the origins of these creatures, we must first know more about their source of power, the Crystal Clusters. Crystal Clusters grow from within the deepest parts of the land. They are potent conduits of magic, acting as volatile catalysts of near infinite energy. In battle, this takes the form of a permanent electrical node that reacts explosively to fire. All crystal enemies have this “Crystal Bearer” passive characteristic, and only the destruction of the Crystal Bearer removes the reactive electrical node from the battlefield. Crystal Clusters are found in underground areas, such as caverns, and in the north of the Isle, in the volcanic Wastes. The CrystalmancersBecause of the special properties of these crystals, the Isle ha…

  • Devlog #4.2: The Mantus - 7 July 2025

Greetings Adventurers! Last time we talked about the Clansmen and how the humanoid communities live within the Stormtossed Isle’s ecosystem and society. Today we are diving into the next enemy type: the Mantus! The Mantus are a race of humanoid insects native to the Isle. This is the first time we are discussing an enemy type that while retaining some human traits, cannot be considered human, and you will soon understand why. Insect haters beware! The Mantus and their societyThe Mantus have their own settlements and a capital to oversee them all. Despite being native to the Stormtossed Isle, which has a variety of climates, they are only comfortable in a temperate climate, and their cities can only be found in the lush and verdant central plains. Mantus are fully sentient beings, and their towns offer amenities similar to those of human towns. While they are far less inclined towards comm…

  • Devlog #4.1 - The Clansmen - 10 June 2025

Greetings Mercenaries! Following from our previous devlog, we are publishing a series of blogs related to the enemies of Pathbreakers: The Roaming Blades. The aim is to highlight all of the opposing factions that we will encounter during our journey. Today, we are taking a deep dive into the Clansmen, a set of barbarian tribes that have inhabited the Stormtossed Isle for a very long time. Although they may seem like wanderers of the uncivilized lands, we will discover that there’s a lot more to them than meets the eye. Who are the Clansmen - Introducing the savages of Stormtossed IsleThe Clansmen are primitive humans who have inhabited some of the most treacherous areas of the isle. Over time, they've been pushed out of the more fertile lands by the main factions of the Isle, forced to live in the near-inhospitable and scorching Badlands. A few have even pushed north as far as the terri…

  • Devlog #4 - Introducing The Enemies of Pathbreakers. - 6 May 2025

Hey everyone! Today’s devlog is centered around the enemies you will face in Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades! Since there is much to cover on the various types of foes and what defines them, we will be releasing separate devlogs for each major topic to provide a better understanding of the dangerous creatures (and humans) wandering around the Stormtossed Isle! Meaning that this devlog will act as the introduction to the type of enemies that you will come across during your adventure, and what makes them different from each other! Below, we’ll talk about the wide range of enemies, which include human units similar to the player's own roster, other hostile humans such as clansmen and bandits, and various beasts and monsters. The humanoid foes When developing the enemies for Pathbreakers, the goal was to provide the player with a wide variety of opponents that have diverse strengths, weakness…

  • Devlog #3 - Discovering the World of Pathbreakers - 7 April 2025

Your Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades adventure takes place on the Stormtossed Isle. The island hosts several cities and settlements allied with numerous different factions. Pathbreakers has two basic game modes: the first is the Story Mode, in which you select a character with their own origin story and play out their campaign on the Stormtossed Isle. The island is a large map with much to explore. It's a sandbox, with each character’s story determining your goal and victory condition. The other mode is a Scenario Map, where you'll select the map size (small to huge) and several generating options. It's a vast open-world experience with no characters’ stories involved. Adding new scenarios is fairly easy, and modders can create new factions, enemy units, events, contracts, and other elements to customize and create new gameplay experiences. Cities & Factions Since Scenario Mode allows you…

  • Devlog #2 - The Combat System - 3 March 2025

Greetings Mercenaries! During your adventures in Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades, you will face many challenges, and sometimes your fighting skills will be your only path to survival. Battles will play a significant role in your journey. While you can always concentrate on other aspects, such as exploration or trading, to minimize conflicts as much as possible, you must remember that you are leading a mercenary band. If you wish to gain experience and improve as a fighter, there is only one way to achieve it. Only you possess the power to determine your party’s path: will you earn more coin by slaying bandits and monsters, or will you acquire your gold through trading? Still, one thing is certain: there is no mercenary without at least one bloodstain. Combat Overview Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades features turn-based battles on a hex grid. The player can field up to eight units and has a ros…

  • Devlog #1 - Introducing the Mercenaries - 29 January 2025

Greetings Mercenaries! The Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades staff is excited to present our first devlog! After an extensive design period, we’re ready to show our community, step by step, the various elements that compose the world of Pathbreakers. Today, we are introducing you to one of the core aspects of our project: the Mercenaries. Who are the Mercenaries? Mercenaries are playable characters in Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades. They can be recruited to become members of your party and accompany you throughout your adventure in the Stormtossed Isle. You will be able to recruit Mercenaries at any local tavern. Once recruited, they will join your group and have up to two starter “traits”, which can be either positive or negative. As the name suggests, traits are attributes that characterize the Mercenary, making them unique from one another. They are tied to their class and can be modified b…

  • The current state of Pathbreakers - 27 September 2024

Hello everyone! Now that Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades has been officially announced, we've received questions about our plans and timelines and such, so here's what we have so far. Release Date We don't currently have a clear idea of the release date, and there's still a lot of work to be done. It's an ambitious project, and as usual, we're not willing to compromise on quality to get it out the door faster. We believe sometime in 2026 for the final release is probably likely. That being said, we are strongly considering an Early Access on Steam. We were very happy with the amount and quality of feedback we got for our previous game, Fell Seal, during its Early Access, and we're hoping for a similar result with Pathbreakers. As such, an Early Access sometime in 2025 is likely. General flow of the game Pathbreakers: Roaming Blades is going to be a less "well defined" genre than Fell Seal…
