• Small Update Patch Notes - 16 February 2024

  We just set a small update live. This mostly removes some redundant and unneeded files from the install directory. With this update, you should also see a new option when starting the game: To launch the C1 Emergency Kit. This way, you don't have to navigate to the install directory anymore to start it.

• Patch Notes - 14 November 2023

  We have updated Creatures Albian Years, and you should see Steam downloading and applying the update automatically. Mainly, this updates a compatibility layer to increase stability on modern systems for Creatures 2. Some known bugs or issues should also be fixed or at least improved such as import/exporting and the Creature's View. The game also should not ask to switch to 16bit color mode anymore - which potentially caused confusion as this window tended to appear behind the Creatures 2 main window.

  Fall is upon us, and dark things might lurk around the corner. We have updated Creatures: The Albian Years, and you should see Steam downloading and applying the update automatically. • A fix, more tips, and a penguin mystery. - 22 December 2021

  We have updated Albian Years. This introduces the following changes: - The biochemistry tab in Creatures 1's science kit contained some German text. This has been fixed. - We implemented an experimental fix for Creatures 2 that may help those who still have serious issues starting the game. - We have added a cob to Creatures 2. A while ago, I found a unique installer among the files we were provided about the games. This seemed to contain a cob for Creatures 2 and a readme file, yet I could not find a single reference to this cob anywhere within the community. https://i.imgur.com/IVQs7Wy.png It appeared finished and was functional as well! Through conversations with the community, we have determined this cob was likely a reward for registering your copy of Creatures 2 back in the day. • Small patch + tips to improve compatibility. - 21 December 2021

  We have just released our first patch which adds some missing files to the games. Unfortunately, the nature of these games makes it difficult to pinpoint and troubleshoot issues that appear as they vary greatly from one computer to the next. At this stage, we are relying on your feedback and reports to see what more can be done to improve compatibility across the board. We have also collected some tips that may help you with various issues that may appear while playing the games: - If you have serious issues with starting the games or frequent crashes (especially Creatures 2), try navigating to the game's install directory and run the file "ay_reg_apps.bat" as administrator. - If you wish to manually reset your Creatures 1 world, navigate to your game's install directory. In the Creatures 1 folder, delete the world.sfc file (this will delete your world and all norns contained within!),…

• About Creatures, Creatures: The Albian Years, and this release. - 20 December 2021

  Creatures: The Albian Years is a compilation of Creatures 1 & 2 (originally released in 1996 and 1998), their life kits and many Object Packs. Later entries can be found under Creatures Docking Station, and its spinoff series for younger players is known as Creatures Village. The series is known for its complexity and depth, hidden beneath a veneer of being a cute pet simulation - and this release contains its first entries and their expansions. Unfortunately, these games are known to have issues when running on modern computers. This release of Creatures: The Albian Years tried to address these compatibility issues, although performance is still likely to vary from one computer to the next. Both age and engine are considerable factors in this, and we're not sure how much we can do to improve performance beyond this.
