Hi everyone! New patch for The Perfect Pencil, timed with our first discount ever! The main change of the new patch is the reworked fast travel system. We’ve made the Teleport Room smaller, following your feedback! Complete changelogs: • The Teleport Room is smaller and faster to navigate into. • Fix to prevent players from being stuck interacting with the "Bubble" and the "Altar". • Various minor bug fixing. We are currently investigating an issue that causes the game to stutter for some players at high framerates. :) I want to use this space to address the state of the Nintendo Switch version too: we have encountered issues while adding features to the Switch version of the game. Honestly, it’s hard to believe we’re finally typing these words. After six years of sketching, coding, and probably way too much caffeine, The Perfect Pencil is officially out there. Think back to where you were in 2019. Who you were. For us, that was the year this whole thing started. The idea was a simple one: what if we could make a game that felt like a drawing come to life? Even as I replay it now the first thing I notice when I start the game is the art. It’s hand-drawn, a bit out there but very intimate at the same time, like something pulled straight out of someone's journal. Firstly, what’s Atmospheric Perspective? A variety of techniques artists use to simulate the effects the atmosphere has on objects viewed at a distance. Artists have been using this techniques since the very beginning of the Common Era, and it is heavily featured in many famous paintings. (Turner - Ancient Rome; Agrippina Landing with the Ashes of Germanicus) (Monet - The Thames below Westminster) In this post we’ll focus on the coloring technique: far objects are less saturated and shift toward the sky color. This is the mechanism that allows you to regain “Will” (health points) on the course of your adventure.
