Latest Steam announcements

  • Destruction Update - 5 March 2024

Destroying villages has been made more fun with improved physics! Why not let go a little and take some of your anger out on those poor little villagers. Here is a list of every addition, change and fix in this update: Destroying buildings is easier New destruction physics for hitting and kicking objects New destruction physics for tornadoes Fixed bug where destroying green villagers houses and mines would not produce tears Fish issue when dropping fish before a bird snatches it results in the bird freezing mid-air Fixed missing sound FX for certain buildings Updated Encyclopedia. More narration.

  • Green Villagers - 4 February 2024

New Inhabitants are arriving to Torridge Island. These green villagers are naturally found in sandy areas of the island and are proficient in mining for resources. Mix and match these villagers into the other two tribes to build mines. Mines are a new building type that like farms can't be moved by the giant and takes 1 green villager to build. Once a villager enters the mine they will take 60 seconds before emerging with a gift. This can contain either a stone, a star or a tear. When using boats, green villagers will try and sail far away from the island to recruit new inhabitants from far off lands, so make sure they don't crash into any land mass along the way! This Update adds: Green villagers Green village type Mines New Houses Alongside some tweaks and bug fixes: Foundations of buildings aren't visible when being carried by the giant. Villagers that have been moved to a new biome…

  • Boats & Builders - 4 October 2023

The Villagers on the island have been hard at work improving their abilities for this new update! Boats: Boats can only be built by blue villagers, however any colour villager can use them by simply putting a villager in the boat and then placing them in the ocean. Blue Villagers will begin to fish while red villagers will sail to and from the island dropping presents at any port they land on. Once both finally return back to shore they may struggle with finding their way home if their village isn’t close by, so make sure to either help them back or set up a new village when they arrive. Boats are fragile, so if the Giant gets in the way of a boat the villagers are at a great risk of drowning so be careful! Builders: The way building works in The Giant of Torridge Island has been completely reworked, giving you more control over what gets built. Villagers still need to gather both wood…

  • Graphical Update - 7 April 2023

Some Graphical enhancements are coming to Torridge Island! The project is starting to move towards a more oil-painting like aesthetic which this update will give a small taste of. The project may lean into the change more but for now it's simply a step towards that art style. This Update has added Palm-trees Improved tree models Outlines for all intractable objects A hazy effect to far away objects Clouds More particle effects New steam library, achievement and store-page artwork. This update also fixes the following issues: An issue where birds would sometimes fail to grab fish out of the Giants hands. The Giants footsteps can no-longer be heard while the end of day stats are showing Fixed penguin movement so they don't clip through the floor when placed on a steep incline.

  • A Giant Update - 6 February 2023

The Giant of Torridge Island is getting new looks and abilities in an update available now! The Giant can now take different forms depending on whether its' actions are deemed good or evil by the villagers. If the villagers like the Giant it will become an angelic entity, gaining the ability to repair damaged objects, heal hurt villagers and wildlife and increase its mobility. At its most angelic, the Giant will glide on a cloud and not accidentally damage anything it treads over. If the villagers dislike the Giant it will become a demonic entity and be able to attack large objects. At its most demonic, the Giant will be able to create tornadoes, causing more destruction on the island. Here is a list of all the new features added: Implemented a new morality scale mechanic Added 4 new transformations for the Giant Replaced the tornado model and animations Added the ability to heal object…

  • Version 0.5.3 - 13 January 2023

  • Farming Update - 4 January 2023

Happy new year everyone! We're starting the new year with an upgrade to farming on Torridge Island: Red Villagers in grassland areas can now build Windmills. When harvesting crops a haybale is created. Here is a list of bug fixes also included in the update: Village flags now disappear when a village reaches a population of 0. Wilting trees in snowy areas no longer float above the ground. Expect Updates to ramp up during the start of this new year as we approach the official launch hopefully at the end of February!

  • Version 0.5.1 - 17 November 2022

Taddiport and Shebbear are back in Freeplay Mode (Unfortunately old save files are incompatible with the villager update). Flags can now be found at the center of every village. They also show what cultures are prominent in the village. Fixed issue with challenge stages destroying buildings upon loading.

  • Villager Update (Part 1) + Water Update - 7 November 2022

Welcome back to Torridge Island! It's been a while so without any waffling here is a couple of new updates which are now live. Villager Update (Part 1) This Update is the first of three waves of updates to the villagers on the island. This first wave focuses on bringing the two existing tribes together into one map! Because of this, villagers are now able to venture into biomes they previously couldn't, adapting their buildings to the new environment. The Giant can also create new villages now, including hybrid villages containing members of both tribes! This update includes: The Ability for the Giant to create new villages. The Ability to move villagers from one village to another. Villagers have new building types. A new map (Bideford). Unfortunately, due to the new village building mechanic Taddiport and Shebbear save files are incompatible with this update, so the maps have been tem…

Fixed issue where red female villagers would stand in place after loading a Taddiport save file.

  • July Update - 12 July 2022

This months update includes the first new tribe added to the game! The blue tribe lives in snowy biomes, and as such a snowy island map has been added to the game. This Update includes: -Blue Villagers -A new map for free play mode "Shebbear" -Penguins (and a corresponding encyclopedia article) -More Sound FX's -Updated Physics -A new Achievement -Sheep no longer toss objects 20ft in the air -More narration dialogue Sorry for the delay to this update, the aim will still be to get an update out every month but I guess real life can get in the way sometimes. Just know that it isn't creative burnout or anything like that, as whenever I get some free time I'm feverishly working on new content. See you hopefully next month as an update for the villagers AI is planned, which will include new ways for them to interact with the Giant, the environment, and even other tribes!

  • May Mid-Month Progress Update - 23 May 2022

Welcome to the mid-month review for May. Small updates have been made throughout the past few weeks and these small tweaks will continue on a regular basis. One patch that is still in the works is reworking the physics to be more dynamic. This is a bigger task than was anticipated as it requires a complete overhaul to how picking up and dropping objects works, so it’s being worked on but no improvements will be seen until everything is fully implemented and works to a good standard. On the more exciting side, in a couple weeks will be the first major content expansion, adding a new tribe and map to the game, so stay tuned! As always thanks for following the project and I hope to make the game live up to its’ fullest potential.

  • Patch Notes V0.1.3 - 19 May 2022

Mid-Month review will be released soon, just a small update for now: New Articles in the encyclopedia covering materials, wildlife, villagers and farms. How many tears / stars until the giant grows is now displayed on the HUD.

  • Patch Notes v0.1.2 - 21 April 2022

First of many small patches to be released in the next few weeks as discussed in the mid-month update. Added the ability for players to rebind keys for picking up and attacking objects. Added the ability for players to invert the Y axis (affects both mouse and game-pad inputs).

  • April Mid-Month Progress Update - 16 April 2022

Welcome to the first mid-month progress update! In these updates I'll go over everything I've been working on recently, talk about any updates going live and what the plan for the big update at the end of the month will be. But since The Giant of Torridge Island has just launched i'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has played the game, left feedback or even just wish-listed the game. The feedback I've received has been incredibly helpful as this is my first early access release, and although part of me thinks maybe I should've held off on the release a little longer, hearing the thoughts of real people has made me all the more motivated to get this project where it needs to be. Since there has only been a few days since the game went live there isn't too much in terms of exciting updates to talk about today, however an update has just gone live which includes the following:…
