- Our Favorite Community Parks from Next Fest - 24 October 2024
Thank you once again to everyone who has put the time, creativity, and love into building Parks for the rest of the community. In just a short time with the demo, our players have built some really incredible parks. First we have a challenging, but quick downhill Race track called Mount Shred by kijiko that gives players choices of platforming options to get over and around hazards. Next let’s look at Zen Garden by Mist, which looks serene but is actually a high speed Trick park with big air and well placed obstacles to clear or grind all over. One of the best grind sessions we had was in XP Rollercoaster wip by CaptroyGbiv stringing various park objects in a continuous grindable line all the way up to the sky. Last we have Downhill de Vliet by Buurman, a high speed jam built around huge air, platforming, and a lot of wall riding. There are many more parks we discovered, this is just th…

- Our Favorite Community Parks (So Far) - 14 October 2024
Thanks to our community for digging into the Park Builder and making some parks in the demo. We’re having a great time jumping in and seeing what everyone creates. We wanted to give a shout out to some of our favorite player-built parks that you all can visit in the demo now. First park is Stanton by ur_mama. It requires platforming to get to setups for different types of tricks. It also uses Pushers to give players speed for big jumps and long grinds. Next is Get Your XP here by Word, built for racking up Trick points on a long, winding rail with WREKLESS letter bonus pickups. We hope to see many more Rube Goldberg style setups like it. Last park for now is The WareHaus V1 by ValentinesDismay, which is a nod to a classic Park, updated with Wrekless specials like Jump Pickups and a Launcher. Roll right in from the spawn point for easy continuous lines. Check out the Featured Parks in th…

- For a Limited Time: Play the Wrekless Demo! - 3 October 2024
Hey Skaters, Today we're releasing our Wrekless demo as a part of Steam Next Fest! We're stoked for you all to get in and start skateboarding and to see what kinds of imaginative skate parks you all build. What’s included in the demo: Most of the activities from the full game are available: skate in parks, build skateparks with others and share them with the community, participate in mini-games, customize your skater and unlock cosmetics. You'll be able to transfer your progress in the Wrekless demo to the main game when it launches! The Wrekless demo will cap the parks to up to 20 players per multiplayer instance. Like the full game, players can build and share their parks with the community, however some advanced building tools and features will be restricted for the demo. Some of the parks created by Free Range Games will be locked for this demo. 🚧Please pardon our dust. Wrekless is…
- Wrekless Dev Diaries: How It Plays - 19 August 2024
As expected, we’re receiving a lot of questions about game controls. That’s great. It suggests y’all are excited to skate. It’ll be easier to understand with a controller in your hand, but until we open up our Beta (date TBD) I’ll do my best to break it down. Remember the boardgame Othello’s claim: “A minute to learn, a lifetime to master.”? Wrekless is like that. Whether you complete our very short tutorial or you’re already comfortable with dual-stick skate controls and want to jump right in, you will be doing things in your first session that would take ages to learn in a hardcore skating sim (let alone on a board in real life). At its core, the skating in Wrekless is both intuitive and realistic, taking into account all manner of physics, wheel/board collisions, etc. At the same time, we want to help you do what you’re trying to do instead of demanding gifted levels of twitchiness a…
- Wrekless Dev Blog 1: Game Design Manifesto - 12 August 2024
The team here at Free Range Games has always wanted to get back to the studio’s roots in action sports. Before Free Range Games, our founders and team members worked on Tony Hawk and other skateboarding games, as well as BMX, Wakeboarding, Snowboarding, and even Razor Scooter games. In the early years of Free Range Games we made some action sports mobile games, back when mobile games were the “it” thing to make. But we always wanted to make a huge, social, controller-focused skateboarding game. And we knew we didn’t want to make what we’ve all made before, we wanted to do something different and more expansive. At the core of our design philosophy we believe that skate culture is inherently inclusive, supportive, collaborative, spontaneous, and creative. It creates a community that for many kids is the first place they ever feel they belong. We wanted to build that as an online universe…
