• A tiny 7th Patch - 16 October 2025

  Dropping a small patch today, mostly to fix a vulnerability that was discovered in the Unity game engine that we use to build Shadows. There are a small number of additional tweaks that are rolling out as well:Fixed an off-by-one error in the random encounter logic which would occasionally give encounters that should not have been possible.Jazz Agent combat music is now much more consistent and not a randomized selection of possible tracks every fight.Adjusted some XP rewards for a handful of interactions.Fixed a few issues with the background parallax layers and with some variant dialog displays.Added a couple of hidden bugs so that you wouldn't get bored and would still have things to report to us!

  It's been a long road, but the physical editions of Shadows Over Loathing for the Switch and Playstation are finally here! In honor of that milestone we have a small patch for you today: Splashing water on your face now properly removes the Regretful debuff — we would regret that bug being around so long, but we've already splashed some water on our face Jazz Agents should now be able to get the Venomous Riff skillbook from the bookshelf where it is supposed to be found Molly no longer immediately grows her hair out after meeting you Pacifists may now discover the Largemouth Bass & Sons questline Barbara Yargara will no longer continue to face you if you defeat all of her friends at once Wormskin boots are a guaranteed drop again, and should really not auto-equip when acquired this time AP regeneration can no longer give you more than your maximum AP You can no longer open the NPC store…

• A small update... - 11 April 2023

  ...to fix a few important issues that arose due to the changes made in the last patch: Tooltips have made a triumphant return. Various interactive elements that may have been strangely missing are back in their expected locations. The shoebox in the cryptography boxcar is usable again. Deviled clams now have proper button text in inventory. Thanks for your patience, and for reporting issues!

• We Plea the Fifth... Patch is Here! - 7 April 2023

  Surprise, it's a big bugfix patch (with a couple of new features thrown in here and there)! We had wanted to get this out much earlier but got waylaid by some work that we can't talk about quite yet. Enough vague-posting, though, here's our giant list of changes: Made “Chekhov” the consistent spelling of that family’s last name. I’m sure this won’t come back to haunt us. The random encounter with Glocklins that describes meeting three of them will no longer be missing one in combat. You can now grab Marvin a case of Snackle Cakes from any sufficiently large pile of Snackle Cakes. The shambling monstrosity in the Zimmer House shadow rift should be easier to interact with via mouse control now. The cursed key can now unlock the shed in the Tin Lizzies' Chop Shop. Greta now actually gets to keep the Meat you spend on Familiar Chow. Doc the hobo is now licensed to practice medicine on evide…

• Four Whom the Patch Tolls - 22 December 2022

  This patch took way longer to put together than we anticipated due to a combination of external things -- holidays, travel, folks getting sick, needing to work on KoL's Crimbo, needing to work on some exciting time-sensitive upcoming things, etc. etc. Sorry about the delay and thanks for your patience! There's still a bunch of outstanding issues that are in our queue, but we wanted to make sure to address the worst progress-blocking issues that folks have been encountering cause those are especially bothersome. We expect to have another bug-fixing patch by mid-January! • How Do I Patch Three - 22 November 2022

  Apologies for the delay in getting this patch out -- we took a couple days off for the first time in months. It felt weird! We've got a ton of stuff still on the list to fix (so much so that we're not even going to bother with the "known issues" list this time), and will be diving into all that this week in earnest. But we wanted to get these fixes out, especially the Obie mini-game fix, cause we know that's been a major drag for a bunch of folks. Obie’s note-following mini-game is now completed after playing a nine-note sequence (this will hopefully resolve the weird anomalous activity that sometimes happened when the sequence went to ten notes) Molly's rapid fire shooting should no longer cause Tin Lizzy Welders to repeat their death animations a bunch of times (as comical as it might have been, it was also clearly broken) If you use the cursed key to unlock a camaro you can no longer…

  Another quick patch to deal with more issues that have come to our attention over the past couple of days. Don't see your favorite bug in there? Just wait, we've got more patches comin'. The pacifist achievement will now properly be awarded, and pacifists who elected for Phys. Ed at S.I.T. will not be blocked from achieving it Pacifists are now properly locked out of fighting at Mudhenge, no matter how little clothing they are wearing Using the cursed key on the Securebus locks will no longer sometimes result in a door that is non-interactive, and characters currently in this situation should now find the door to be open The right arrow in Obie’s minigame in his vignette quest should now work properly, instead of not at all like it was before (should have called it the "wrong arrow" amirite?) We've tried to address the most significant issues that have arisen, and will keep fixing things as we can over the coming weeks and months.
