- From the developer: my next game can now be wishlisted on Steam - 13 April 2026
First of all, a huge thank you to the 322 people who picked up Whispers in the Moss during the Steam Spring Sale. I’m honestly blown away by that support. I'd love to hear your feedback in one form or another, so don't hesitate dropping me a comment or any other forms of feedback. While Whispers in the Moss remains my first big solo release, I’ve also been working on a very different new project. My next game is FC Mafioso: Football Dynasty Manager, a text-based football management game built around procedural storytelling, derby drama, weekly scenarios, and a shady mafia twist. I've been developing the game on-and-off from 2012, and a playable prototype has been available on Itch for years. Now I've decided to give it a massive upgrade and release it on Steam in Q4/2026.If that sounds like your kind of weird indie game, I’d really appreciate it if you took a look and wishlisted it on Ste…

- July Sale is Here + Update 1.1 Released! - 4 July 2024
Dear community! Whispers in the Moss has entered a two-week July sales campaign. We've also released the 1.1 update, so what better time to pick up the game than now! The 1.1 update will provide many important tweaks to improve the game experience further. For a full update log, check below. While the game has received excellent feedback, I've been diligently taking notes on all the criticism, suggestions, and ideas too. By far, the thing that has received the most mentions in this regard is the UI and especially the clunky saving. The update provides an important fix with a Quick Save feature, quickly available as you step on any Save Crystal. Another wish I've heard from many players regards the bestiary, and how it should be accessible in-game too. This turned out very challenging to implement since I had coded the bestiary system in a way that was not compatible with this idea. It t…

- Two Weeks In: Celebrating the Positive Reception of Whispers in the Moss - 14 June 2024
Whispers in the Moss has been out for two weeks, and I want to thank everyone for the warm reception the game has been getting. The reviews and coverage continue to be overwhelmingly positive, so the niche is definitely real—now I just need to locate all the lost sheep. Say "baa" if you're one of them! The Steam reviews currently boast an incredible 100% recommendation rate, which comes from 13 reviews, 8 of which are from customers. The game has also been reviewed by 22 Steam curators, with 17 of them recommending the game. The 3 informational reviews are also very positive in tone. Another metric that I'm very happy about is the "Units Returned" metric on Steam, which stands at just 1%. In addition, Whispers in the Moss has been covered by many websites, media outlets, and blogs, plus a couple of YouTube/Twitch streamers. Practically all of the coverage has been positive. I've listed…
- "This game is an absolute gem" – Thanks for the awesome reviews! - 5 June 2024
Now that Whispers in the Moss has been out for a few days, I want to take a moment to thank everyone for the fantastic reception! Releasing a game with such eccentric aesthetics in 2024 was a bit of a gamble, but based on your reviews, I'm thrilled to see how warmly the style has been received. Your positive feedback on the gameplay is particularly gratifying, as it was a major focus during the latter stages of development. I've compiled some of my favorite quotes from your reviews so far. We still need more reviews, so I hope everyone who picks up the game can take a moment to share their thoughts too. "My first thoughts immediately point to the Dwarf Fortress intro but as a full game. A huge point of the charm is exploring this text art world. ... An excellent accompanying soundtrack as well." (Steam Review / Healthycheekums) "This game is an absolute gem - the ANSI interface is well…
- After 12 years of development, Whispers in the Moss is here! - 31 May 2024
Note! If you picked up the game, then it would mean a lot to me if you could take a moment to drop a review as well. The reviews are very important to the Steam algorithm. ** After twelve long years, I have fulfilled a childhood dream and released my own JRPG. Twelve years is a long time to work on one project, way too long, and if I started today, I’d do many things differently. Still, I’ve given this game everything I’ve got. Even when I consider the things I could’ve done better, I’m extremely happy with the end result. Most of all, I’m proud of myself for completing something so herculean. Now it’s time to sit back and be happy, perhaps take a sip of that dwarvenale, and look towards the moon. As for the rest of you, go play Whispers in the Moss, now! ːsteamthumbsupː – Tapio / Uncultured Games PS. The game's soundtrack is coming to Steam soon, so stay tuned!

- Whispers in the Moss / Press Roundup - 25 May 2024
Hi! The release of the game is getting closer, and I'm happy to see the wishlist count increase day by day. I decided to collect a few links to articles and other media content on Whispers in the Moss. Rock Paper Shotgun wrote a hilarious (and positive!) review of the game's demo version: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/a-solo-dev-worked-12-years-on-this-retro-jrpg-and-its-out-next-month My favorite RPG site RPGamer posted a news article about the game's upcoming release: https://rpgamer.com/2024/05/whispers-in-the-moss-releasing-end-of-may/ The Lowkey Arcade released an almost 30-minute gameplay video of the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3isCiuZPaY News Geek Japan did a small review on the game, applauding some aspects of it, but not completely appreciating the retro approach. Still, cool to get covered by someone from the O.G. JRPG land! https://newsgeekjp.com/2024/05/16/whi…
