- June 2026 Update - 2 June 2026
Hi everyone! Since it's been a few months I wanted to write a small update on my progress. The exciting news is that I've started working on the game again in my spare time. There isn't a ton I feel comfortable sharing just yet but there are some overall larger ideas that I have decided on.Core Game DesignGalactic Getaway started as a very different game when we started making it. And with fear of losing out on the work that we already put in, I tried to incorporate every "phase" of the game even as it evolved. After taking my game design class I realized that this was probably one of our biggest mistakes! So I started this re-design process with thinking about what our core game mechanic should be. How could I make this mechanic deep, meaningful, and of course fun?EncountersOne of the interesting ideas we implemented was a creature collector turn based like friending system. While this…

- The Big Pet Update - 15 May 2025
Hi everyone sorry for the long wait but we're finally releasing the big pet update! I'm really excited about the changes this update brings as I think it really focuses the game on what everyone has found the most fun; pets! Here's a list of what's new and what's changed. New Pet Station - Befriending your creatures will now make them residents of your planet instead of just being put away in storage. Residents will roam your planet and interact with one another. The Pet Station is where you can manage what pets you want to keep around. The storage is still there to keep any pets that overflow the station. Upgrades to the station size will be coming in a future update. Feeding - Feed your pets to increase the new PetPak level. There are no longer star levels for each PetPak but a level 1-100 for each slot on your pet. Without revealing too much, I can say that PetPaks now work on a whol…

- Dev Log #2 - 3 September 2024
Hello space cadets! This month we were really focused on fixing up feedback from alpha testers, getting the word out about the game, and working on the next phase of mechanics. Unfortunately there's still no estimate for the release of early access but we will keep you all updated right here. Read until the end of the update to learn how you can help get us there faster! Updates So far a lot of the feedback from alpha testers has been bugs (of course) but also focused around usability and immersion. So alongside working on the new features for the game here are some things we added/fixed to better bring the user into the game. Controls Our team plays a ton of different types of games so we made a lot of assumptions about the controls. For example, we thought a common control scheme was to hold the right mouse button to rotate the camera. However, a lot of testers who only play fixed cam…
- Dev Log #1 - 27 August 2024
Hi space cadets! With how busy we've been between developing and keeping up with the Kickstarter, I haven't had a chance to update the steam page. I realized we're leaving a huge group of you out of the loop so moving forward I'm going to make sure to post updates here as well. Change is a good thing The last few months have been really transformative for GG (Galactic Getaway). I'm grateful to all the backers of the Kickstarter but also heard the negative feedback as well. "Animal Crossing from Walmart", "This looks like a mod", etc. What I realized was that describing our game as "Animal Crossing with better multiplayer" actually made our game lack identity. "Galactic Getaway"- this is a game in space, right? In almost all of the screenshots I showed before, there was no way to tell GG took place in outer space. So we changed the artistic mood of the game. With bright purple terrain an…
