- As seminal oddball indie Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP hits 15 years of age, you can pick it up for less than a coffee - 24 March 2026
Let's travel back in time, roughly to the late 2000s and early 2010s. It was a time where indie games were becoming more of a defined Separate Thing from blockbuster games. It certainly wasn't the birth of indie games, but with the release of certain notable games like Fez , it did mark a change in who got to make money from them at the very least. But to me personally, there is no more quintessential indie game from that era than Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP , which against my wishes has turned 15 today. Read more

- Superbrothers: JETT was Given Time to flourish, now what's next? - 8 February 2023
There's something to be said for 2D pixel paintings, isn't there? You put a pixel in its proper place, dial in its proper HSB, and so long as your color palettes are in reasonable order, then the pixel will stay just how you left it. Then, when someone views the image -- or plays the videogame that takes place atop it -- the visual communication can be remarkably accurate and clean. Less to fuss about. As you may imagine, there's something appealing to me about the thought of someday returning to the relative simplicity of this form of visual communication, working within interesting constraints, particularly after a good long while spent wrangling polygons in deep 3D space. Speaking of polygons in deep 3D space - JETT's out! There has been plenty going on lately as we round out JETT: Given Time's launch week. Come dive into what's going on in JETTs-ville: JETT's out and we're feeling g…
- Superbrothers: JETT's out on Steam, our new videogame is now complete. - 31 January 2023
Folks, listen: the videogame biz is a weird place. I can tell you, at least from my strange and specific vantage point as a creator and an entrepreneur, that it seems to be bananas. Sometimes, in good ways. Sometimes something intricate and strange like JETT is able to ride favourable industry currents, reach for the stars, and actually get there. Sometimes you end up with a line-up of interesting people, wishlists in hand, queuing up for what's on offer. More on that in a second, but first lemme get your eyes and ears on today's big item: This is a great great day. and we're *thrilled* to have delivered on JETT's videogame vision satisfyingly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3lfq60RO90 Today's the day! Arise with us? JETT's Steam debut + New 'Given Time' campaign is now available Oh and as of now, JETT's on sale: 40% off on Steam. Did I mention JETT is pretty great on Steam Deck? Well…

- Superbrothers: How No Man's Sky and Firewatch relate to JETT - 13 January 2023
Imagine: it's 2013, you're a small team, you've previously made a small but well-regarded game, something like Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP just to choose a random example, and now you're swinging for the bleachers with an ambitious new design. You and a pal have been cooking up a science fiction videogame where you explore a planet and survive from two perspectives: you can walk around and talk to people, then you get in a jett and you can zip around the planet's surface, gathering things and figuring things out in an interesting wilderness built with procedurally-placed ecosystem tools. Now, imagine you tune into a 'The Game Awards' type broadcast (the last of the VGAs?) in late 2013, and you see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCgWabJssVI Whatever you may think about No Man's Sky, there's no getting around the fact that from that first trailer, it has drawn a high level o…
- Superbrothers: how JETT was inspired by Metroid Prime, Monster Hunter and Ueda - 23 December 2022
sworcery symbology, yuletide edition by Cory Schmitz STUMBLING REVERENTLY INTO 2023 Hey, Craig from Superbrothers here. As 2022 winds down I sincerely hope that wherever you are, you’re getting through things okay, whatever the odds and the obstacles, and that you’ve got it in you to be who you want to be, and be good to each other, as we all stumble reverently forward into another year living together on this troubled, miraculous planet. So, listen: I've prepared a hefty post for you to enjoy over the winter holidays. it's about how I moved from #sworcery's pixels to JETT's polygons, and why JETT took the shape it did, with mentions of Metroid, Metroid Prime and Fumito Ueda, among others. I hope you enjoy it, if you take the time to traverse it. This one's a long read, a big ol' yule log of a post. If you're interested in the process of creating videogames, and the specific and maybe-u…
- Superbrothers: from #sworcery to JETT's interstellar demo - 25 November 2022
Hey hi hello there. How're you? Craig from Superbrothers A/V here, ie. that bozo what co-created both #sworcery and JETT. A few weeks ago I popped up with a post to tell you about where #sworcery and JETT overlap. https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/204060/view/3433458944730393702 Today I'm here to tell you a bit about: how #sworcery led to JETT, how JETT's memorable interstellar demo came about (incl some of my 2013-era character previz), and how my IRL experience as a new parent influenced aspects of its tone. Before I dig in on those topics, I'd like to lay out a little fall 2022 snapshot to catch you up on what my fellow #sworcery co-creators are up to! @craigdadams on Twitter (RIP?) and Instagram @superbrothersHQ on Twitter (RIP?), @superbrothers on Instagram COSMIC FRIENDS FOREVER For Capy, that beloved Toronto videogame studio that caused #sworcery to happen, here are a coupl…
- The new videogame from Superbrothers A/V is JETT: The Far Shore + Given Time - 3 November 2022
Oh hi–I didn’t see you there. I was just putting the finishing touches on JETT: The Far Shore’s new campaign expansion, "Given Time," due early 2023. Who am I, you ask? I'm Craig D. Adams, the bozo who founded Superbrothers A/V way back in 2003. I'm also the co-creator of Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP (2011/2012), as well as the co-creator of JETT: The Far Shore + Given Time (2021/2023). In my job as creative director at Superbrothers A/V, an ongoing videogames conspiracy a totally normal company that creates videogames, I've been laser-focused on breathing life into the preposterously grandiose JETT, pretty much ever since the golden old sworcery days of yesteryear. To give you an idea on how far back JETT goes, here's a #jettdev fun fact: The JETT prototype was born at the Toronto Game Jam in May 2011, about five weeks after sworcery's initial launch. Fun fact: Capy's Super T.I.M…
- Below surfaces today - 14 December 2018
It’s the RPS/Gamer Network annual day of chest-thumping/excessive consumption/enforced PowerPoint-watching, so we’ll all be offline when Capy’s much-anticipated rando-dungeon-runner Below launches this evening. Very pretty/entirely menacing rand-o-dungeon-o game Below has been tantalising us from a distance for half a decade. “It’ll never happen!”, bellowed Derek Misery from a Twitter account with 12 followers, sometime in 2016. Well, suck it up, Derek – all of a sudden, the closest thing there is to a follow-up to peerless adventure/musical odyssey/exploratory crisis Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is out in seven short days. - Indie Game: The Movie now watchable! - 12 June 2012
Indie Game: The Movie is available to download on the official site and iTunes. It'll be released on Steam in about seven hours time, making it the first ever full-length movie to be released on the platform. You could use Steam's remote download feature to kick it off from your office/school/college then watch it while eating your tea this evening. That's what I'm planning on do. Alternatively, you can purchase on the official site and sneakily stream it in the corner of your monitor. Or just buy it on iTunes and watch it on your iOS device from a toilet cubicle. Indie Game: The Movie was directed by Lisanne Pajot and James Swirsky. It follows Tommy Refenes and Edmund McMillen as they create Super Meat Boy in late 2010 as well as Phil Fish, who struggles to prepare his first public demo of Fez. A post-Braid Jonathan Blow also features as he decides what to do after his massively succes…
- Humble Indie Bundle 5 makes $1.8 million in 15 hours - 1 June 2012
Back in December, the Humble Indie Bundle 4 wowed us by making $1 million in a day. We thought that would prove a hard number to beat, but that was before we knew Humble Bundle 5 would contain Limbo, Psychonauts, Bastion, Sword and Sworcery and Amnesia. Unsurprisingly that incredible collection of games has helped smash the previous record. With the day not yet over, the latest Humble Bundle has already made $1.8 million, making it likely they'll more than double their previous total before the day is out. Some numbers for you. So far 244,000 bundles have been bought at an average price of $7.65. Windows users pay the least, at $7.10 on average, while Mac fans stand at $9.13 and Linux users at a whopping $11.87. The highest price paid so far is $3001, by Notch, beating the second placed Humble Brony Bundle by $1. The cad. There's 13 days and nine hours left on the clock, so we can expec…
- Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP Update Released - 20 April 2012
Fixed a crash that can occur when acquiring the Megatome. The mountain miracle controls are now less finicky. You should have less problem completing the miracle irregardless of where you grab or how fast you pull. Support for international keyboards has been added (i.e. Non-North American keyboard layouts) to Twitter input.
- Sword and Sworcery now on Steam. Features higher resolutions and less finger smudge - 17 April 2012
Superbrother's Sword and Sworcery was originally a kooky iOS game, abeit one that's extremely enjoyable to look at and listen to. It was so pretty in-fact that most of my iPhone playthrough was tainted by my own frustrating metagame where I would screengrab at climactic moments, often resulting in unnecessary death for the sake of a wallpaper (grabbing on the iphone requires you to switch hand-stance significantly, leaving you vulnerable to bad things). I'll let you discover the rest of the game for yourself - the mystery is half the appeal. Now Sword and Sworcery is on PC, rendering my low res iOS screens puny and insignificant in comparison the 1920x1080 behemoths embedded below. It's currently on sale for £3.74/$5.99 on Steam. You'll also get Jim Guthrie's soundtrack "Ballad of the Space Babies" bundled, which plays out like a concept album of melodic beeps and boops. Here's a sample…
