  • Achievments, True Fullscreen, and More! - 12 July 2015

Some among us will recall that quite some time ago there was a large update. It worked on Windows but not on OSX. That changes today! The 2.0 update, now available and working on both Windows and OSX, is a complete overhaul of the game that completely ditches Flash. The immediate advantages of this is to allow fullscreen that doesn't run in auto-max resolution, have saves that weren't left to the whims of a web browser, and allow for standard Steam features like the overlay and achievements. Here's a list of the notable changes: -Teleport now saps 'flow' tiles -Each room has a name -In-Game Mini-Map (can be enabled from pause menu) -Full pause map, shows you what rooms you've completed at a glance -Battery now shows how many tiles remain to be lit -Completely new look for text elements in the HUD -4:3 Aspect Ratio -Steam Overlay -Steam Achievements (10 of them) It should be noted that t…

  • Windows 8.1 Fix - 11 November 2014

There was an issue with Windows 8.1 that prevented the game from running. This has been fixed by adding the VC++ 2010 redistributable to the install. A side note on the OSX version: newer versions of OSX depreciated key library functions that cause the 2.0 update to not work on anything past 10.6. The fix requires changing the graphics libraries for the game, which would take a bit of work that I haven't had the time to do. Thanks, Brandon Brizzi @OutManOdd [email protected]

  • Have You Played 1000 Amps? - 7 October 2014

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game recommendations. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time. Sometimes there are games that I know for a fact people would absolutely adore, but I know for an equally certain fact most of them won’t ever give it a try. The absolutely stunning 1000 Amps is one such game. …

  • 1000 Amps Update Released - 18 December 2012

1000 Amps 2.0 Update: Free On Windows, Beta on Mac OSX Version 2.0 of 1000 Amps is a very large update that involved the re-coding of the entire game in C++. The immediate advantages of that was to allow fullscreen that didn't run in auto-max resolution, have saves that weren't left to the whims of a web browser, and allow for standard Steam features like the overlay and achievements. All of these things have been added, and then some. Here's a complete breakdown: -Auto-saving (was in v1.3, but I think it's worth mentioning) -Teleport now saps 'flow' tiles -Minor room corrections -Each room has a name, displayed on the bottom left of the screen -In-Game Mini-Map (can be enabled from pause menu) -Full pause map, shows you what rooms you've completed at a glance -Battery now shows how many tiles remain to be lit -Completely new look for text elements in the HUD -4:3 Aspect Ratio -Steam Ov…

  • PC Gamer weekly round-up - 27 April 2012

The big news this week was a surplus of information on Crysis 3 - but it's stealth action FPS Dishonored that creeped in and impressed us with its old-school open-ended sensibilities. Elsewhere, our hopes for STALKER 2 were finally and tragically squashed, but new tidbits of information just might have slipped out about Half-Life 2: Episode 3. We also took a closer look at Sniper Elite: V2, Guild Wars 2, Microsoft Flight, and TERA. Read on for a full list of this week's biggest stories. Gabe Newell maybe talked a bit about Half-Life 2: Episode 3, perhaps, by talking about Ricochet 2 instead. Duncan Geere reviewed 1000 Amps. Evan took a look at Crysis 3, and interviewed Crytek's senior creative director. Tom Francis took Crytek to task over the Crysis series' unpopular extraterrestrials. Henry Winchester previewed Sniper Elite V2, while Tyler took his best shot at the demo. Steve Hogarty…

  • 1000 Amps review - 23 April 2012

If you’re a member of the camp of gamers who believe that the answers to puzzles should never be signposted, and that modern games are way too easy, then you’re going to like 1000 Amps. You play as a cute lil’ icon called Plug (no relation to the Bash Street Kid) who is attempting to repair a set of electrical stations called the Amp- Tree-System. In each room, you can light up a number of squares by touching them, and when you’ve lit them all, that part of the system is repaired. As you light these squares, you’re given more power – enabling you to jump and teleport. Most of the puzzles rely on using that gradual increase in power to enable you to access more and more lightsquares in each room. The art style is minimalist. So minimalist, in fact, that you can’t see any of the room you’re in until you touch the squares in question. As such, exploration becomes an exercise in feeling aro…
