  • Upcoming Updates & Additions for FREM Sprite32! - 8 January 2023

Howdy! As the new year has begun, I wanted to give an update for the roadmap for FREM Sprite32! going forward. After releasing the game in October, I pushed several quality of life updates and small fixes based on the initial feedback, so thanks to everyone who participated in the community discussions, left a review, and/or messaged me directly with their feedback! After taking a much needed break during the December/January holiday stretch, I'm ready to get back to working on a few new additions and improvements. Here's what I've got planned in upcoming builds: Steam Achievements. This is probably the most requested feature, and I aim to do it. It's a bit of work to come up with them and add them to the Steam back end, so this may take me a bit to finalize. I have several jotted down in a spreadsheet, but I still need to come up with more. I also need to revisit the Godot library I pr…

  • Update 1.0.4.0 - Introducing Mouse Support - 3 November 2022

I'm pleased to announce the latest update for Win/macOS which introduces mouse support for FREMScript programs. Be sure to check out the new SpriteMaker program in the software folder, which showcases the new mouse input features. Additionally, the manual has been updated to document the new functions with examples. The latest build also includes a few minor bugfixes and QoL updates. Here's the full change log for this update: 1.0.4.0 Added mouse support to FREMScript Updated manual Chapter 15: Input to document new mouse functions. Added SpriteMaker 1.0 to software in order to demo mouse support General improvements to big screen view to block interactions with controls…

  • Making some optimizations to the Sprite & Grid Layers - 28 October 2022

This update makes a few improvements to how the game creates objects used by the Sprite and Grid layers. Under the hood, the game was previously creating a number of resources to support the rendering of the Grid and Sprite layers, even if the executed programs never used them. Now, resources will be allocated only when a program enables these layers, and freed when the Sprite32! is reset or power cycled. These changes should improve memory usage and CPU load when not using the Grid and Sprite layers in programs. 1.0.3.0 Improved object handling and rendering of the Grid Layer to reduce memory and cpu footprint Improved object handling and rendering of the Sprite Layer to reduce memory and cpu footprint Updates/Additions to some examples affected by sprite modifications. Added Pixel Painter 1.0 to the software folder

  • Patch notes for build 1.0.1.1 - 19 October 2022

Fixed bug in pixel rendering that caused slow memory leak and intermittent crashes due to failure to call unlock() on underlying image. Added additional checks, locks, image update optimizations to pixel rendering logic

  • FREM Sprite32! 1.0.0 Release! - 17 October 2022

Today, version 1.0.0 of FREM Sprite32! is complete and released as Windows and macOS builds. It has taken a lot of hard work over the past year to get to this point, and I'm really happy with how the game has turned out. Check out the manual, tutorials, challenges, and code samples scattered throughout the system and hack out some FREMScript to bring the Sprite32! to life. Don't forget to grab your favorite headphones and chill out to the synth soundtrack by Interface Type Seven while you hammer out those lines of code. What's next on the Road map? For now I'll focus on patching any bugs that surface, as well as collecting feedback from the players. If you have any comments, concerns, bugs, or cool FREMScript programs to share, please leave a comment on the Steam community page. I can't wait to see your cool programs! I have a number of ideas for additional content for the Sprite32! goi…
