  Thanks to help from the community, the game now supports the following languages:Japanese Simplified Chinese Traditional Chinese German Spanish - Spain Spanish - Latin America Brazilian Portuguese Finnish To save time we used machine translation and then had native speakers from the community fix the translations. There is a lot of random dialogue in the game, so some of it may still sound strange. The game also supports using the Steam Workshop to share custom fill patterns and brushes!If you go to the workshop and click "subscribe" on items, when you run the game again, that pattern or brush will now be added to your game.To upload your own pattern or brush, while the game is running press Shift + L + K to open a UI where you can select an image file from your computer and upload it either as a pattern or as a brush. • Free Demo of the game I've been working on for the last 8 years available now! - 28 September 2025

  Since long before we created Different Strokes I have been working on a large story-heavy action RPG called Kingdom of Night with another team. We significantly underestimated just how long it would take to build out a game like this. The game has about 90,000 words of dialogue, tens of thousands of sprites, and a 70 song soundtrack.We just released a demo that lets you experience the first region of the game. I hope you'll consider checking it out and letting us know what you think!

  We've made lots of little changes to the game over the last year. • New-ish feature. Production Update - 26 April 2024

  Hey all, Just wanted to officially announce a feature that's been in the game for a while now, but I was planning to wait until the big update to announce it. If you have the Deluxe Edition, when you're in paint bucket mode (G) if you press R or T it will cycle through a list of patterns. Wherever you click will be filled with that pattern. There's also a checkbox to invert the pattern. Finally, in paint bucket mode, if you hold Q and then draw a shape, it will fill that shape in with the current pattern. The big update is still in the works, but I want to get my other game "Kingdom of Night" done before I come back to work seriously on Different Strokes. It's coming together nicely now. The script has about 100,000 words in it which explains why it's taken so long to finish. • Canvas Zoom Feature and Improved Mobile Controls - 26 August 2023

  It's now possible to zoom into the canvas for more fine detail work. To zoom hold ALT on the keyboard and use the mouse scroll wheel. Alternatively hold ALT and press the keys. When zoomed in you can use the arrow keys, or hold the cursor on the edge of the screen to move the view around. • Mobile version and a fun minigame. - 7 August 2023

  The web version of the game now supports touch controls, so if you have a fairly recent Android/iOS device you should be able to load it up, walk around the gallery and paint using the touchscreen. Touch the left side of the screen to move and the right side to look around. The web version doesn't support Steam login so you'll have to create a non-steam account in the game if you want to be logged in. • Updates & Steam Summer Sale - 2 July 2023

  The Deluxe Edition is half off for the Steam Summer Sale! Changes since the last update: You no longer have to hold shift to run, you just run all the time now. If you right click, or alt+click on a canvas while painting, it will change to the color under your cursor (eyedropper tool) Straight Line Tool (Deluxe Edition Only). If you hold shift before you begin a line it will draw a straight line until you release the mouse/pen. While drawing a straight line, if you release the shift key and then press it again, it will lock the line to multiples of 22.5 degrees. As always, don't forget to check the "Controls" page in the pause menu to see all of the additional features that are only accessible as keyboard shortcuts! • More Small Changes - 7 February 2023

  The top 6 paintings from the Gallery of the Week, appear in the main game around the GotW portal. Added a "controls" page to the pause menu describing all the keyboard controls. The 0-6 keys can now be used to toggle through all the colors (see controls page) Added UI pieces to indicate the currently selected color when using the Brush or Paint Bucket tool. Made the server faster again to handle the 651,218 paintings submitted so far.

• Lots of small updates! - 20 January 2023

  Changes since the last update: Steam achievements! Significant server performance improvements. In the pause menu there is now a "Graphics Settings" button, which takes you to a new screen where you can set the game's resolution. Added a little text to the bottom of the painting UI to indicate the gallery of the week theme if you're in the gallery of the week. Added a confirm yes/no step when you click Upload on a painting. Added experimental support for Redo. There's no button in the UI, but if you have undone changes(CTRL + Z), you can redo them by pressing (CTRL + SHIFT + Z) or (CTRL + Y) There is now a "remove from my likes" button on the paintings in the "My Likes" section. Clicking this will remove the painting from appearing in your "My Likes" but it does NOT subtract your like from the painting's like total. • Dark Mode! And several small updates - 27 November 2022

  In the pause menu there is now a checkbox for "Dark Mode" which makes most of the 3D models in the game black instead of white. This should hopefully help reduce eye strain. There is now a "restart" button in the pause menu which restarts the gallery and updates your "my likes", "my paintings" and the notification icon in the upper right corner of the login kiosk. When logged in, the login kiosk now has a "my paintings" button that opens your user page on the website. The Deluxe Edition now has a checkbox for "pen pressure" This is not guaranteed to work and will only work if "Windows Ink" is ENABLED in your tablet driver's settings.
