- Odyssey Continues to Grow — Early Autumn Update V1.1.2 - 3 September 2026

- Game Launch Weekend is Complete! - 28 April 2026
Odyssey launched this prior Friday, the 24th, and at the same time, we were at a local show in Milwaukee, WI, selling limited physical collector copies of the game. We had the chance to chat with a lot of really nice enthusiasts of PC games, and the like. If you were one of the folks who grabbed a copy from us at the events, thank you again! We really hope you like the game, and we're looking forward to the feedback! The event, Midwest Gaming Classic, was bustling, one of the busiest cons I've vended at to date.Over the weekend, we got a small drip of feedback, and we'll be releasing an update patch soon after we're all home and situated again. In the meantime, we're thrilled that nobody has reported any utterly game breaking bugs, and that everyone so far is enjoying it.As stated in the last news update, we have a big summer of content updates that will be coming in over the next few mo…
- Odyssey Releases in 5 Days - 19 April 2026
After nearly 5 years of cold, hard development, we're finally ready to fully unleash Odyssey to all lovers of adventure RPG games! When I originally began envisioning Odyssey, I thought to myself that it should be "just one step above a simple RPG Maker type". Just an easy to process, "numbers go up" JRPG with a beefy story with rich lore, and call it a day. Fast forward just shy of 5 years later, and we see that is not how things turned out. What we have now is a massive game, with so many moving parts! Is any of it any good? Well, I guess you'll be the judge. So what IS Odyssey of Dremid'ir?For the uninitiated: Odyssey is an RPG set in the fantasy bronze age world of Dremid'ir. The player will embark on a quest to seek out the city-state of New Bastion, getting caught up in politics, wartime, and even more frightening monsters that hide in the ruins of the world. Expand your party thro…
- THE ROAD TO RELEASE - 13 March 2026
It has been a very, very long four years since the idea for Odyssey first came to be. What was originally supposed to be a simple, straightforward "JRPG" adventure game with some convincing voice acting, has turned into an epic universe of complex story and combat interactions, crafting, questing, and nearly 5,000 voiced lines of dialogue. Topped off with a uniquely hand drawn animation style and you've got Odyssey of Dremid'ir.It is with immense pleasure that I am here to announce the FINAL RELEASE DATE FOR THE GAME: APRIL 24.In all honesty, I'd prefer to just keep cooking OOD -- just keep kicking the can down the road -- and be that guy, "Oh yeah, just making a game," forever. But there comes a time when the bird must fly the nest, and we think that time is now. While the game releases digitally to Steam on Friday that weekend, it will also be releasing PHYSICALLY on Saturday, the same…
- The Approaching Beta? (Demo V.13a) - 14 June 2025
Our last update was roughly around the end of March, and it was a quiet update, as part of promoting the game at our usual run of in-person cons. But with V.13, we're very quickly approaching the beta window for our title, and we would like to get the word out. Here's the major points of V.13: -Overhauled character assets (and other artwork) -Shop mechanics -Tighter combat animations/movement -Expansion of combat/damage mechanics -More in depth weapons/armour types -You can now customize colours of the inventory tab (because it's fun) -Expanded levels and their content thereof-More Alchemy (potion crafting) options -New voice actingLet's break down the big players this update:Overhauled character assets/Tighter combat animations/movement Many party members have seen a lot of their animations completely redrawn from the ground up. This goes from idle/walk animations, but more interesting…
- DEVLOG IV - 11 January 2025
2025 is finally here, and that means Odyssey is releasing this coming summer! We've set the release date towards the end of June -- but stay posted, but there will be absolutely 0 hesitation to delay if the game needs more time! While the anxiety and excitement of finally getting this beloved child of a game project out the door is mounting, I'd like to give another look at the inside. From yours truly, project lead Andrew, With a lot of the game's groundwork built up, it's long been time for me to get into the bloody details of the game, and so I've been spending a lot of time lately on the game's major hub area: New Bastion. In New Bastion, the player will spend a lot of time upgrading their equipment, stocking up on consumables, following quest leads, and even customizing their house. But is it enough to just have "things" to do in a town area? Or is there more to it? If you ask me,…
- Store Page Localization + ESA July - 24 June 2024
In early March, we updated the demo to Version 0.7, which set the stage for us in what the game will truly feel like on release. Since then, the progress has been climbing, but we're happy to release our newly localized Steam store page! English Chinese (Simplified) Russian Portuguese Hungarian We'll be adding more as we get translators in on the job. In other news, we love speed running! We're big speed run enthusiasts, so we've decided to attend the European Speedrunning Assembly held in Malmö, Sweden this July. Although we applied our game's demo for a spot to run, we didn't make the cut, sadly. That being said, we will still be attending, watching speedruns, and hopefully still sharing our game with fellow con goers. The Progress Report: And finally, for those interested in surveying the progress of Odyssey, here's a short list of what we've been up to: Day/Night and Weather We've s…
- The New Official Trailer + Demo V0.7 - 5 March 2024
When we attended Steam Next Fest in June, 2023, we had no clue just how novice we really were; our trail was hot, and needed to be even hotter, but it was the greatest trip we'd ever had in terms of engaging an audience, and receiving feedback on what we had developed -- it was still everything we hoped for and more. Since then, it's been about ~8 months, and we haven't stopped chugging away! To show off our progress, we're ecstatic to launch our brand new trailer! We've also been incredibly active on our social medias, heavily documenting our game dev progress, and sharing our hard learned lessons along the way; you can also check out our "Making of" series on our Youtube page while checking out the trailer for an in-depth look at what our development has been like! Demo V0.7 We realize our game isn't a routinely updated/played multiplayer game, but we still enjoy updating our demo whe…
- DEVBLOG III - 25 November 2023
Since last June, we've released several demo updates, and attempted to launch our Kickstarter campaign. Unfortunately, it didn't pan out as we would have like, but that okay, we didn't count on any such luck to reach success, and we still welcome to the challenge of completing the game without it! We're planning to release a new demo version again soon, featuring a lot of new updates that's more indicative of what the final game will look like, so you can stay tuned for that! In the mean time, here's another devblog from yours truly, the project lead, Andrew: Odyssey is a very text heavy game, it was the goal from the start to do as much as possible with the game's dialogue as possible, however, Odyssey is far more than just blocks of text thrown at the player, let's break it down even further. I. What is a "Cutscene"? A cutscene, at least in Odyssey is a time in the game where the play…
- Odyssey Kickstarter Campaign is LIVE! - 19 September 2023
It's been a long road to get here, but we're ecstatic to announce that our Kickstarter campaign is live! From Sept 19 - October 19th, you can head over to our KICKSTARTER PAGE and see everything we have to offer! Why Should you Support us? We'd like to say that TRUE art inspires patronage -- but that usually gets me in trouble at the bank. So here's a couple great rewards you can get when you help us out on this campaign: First up is that you can back the game for as little as $15, and receive a digital copy on release (that's a 25% discount!). Going up, you can get rewards ranging from any paid DLC we make (Which we are currently planning for), beta access, a chance to influence small bits of content in the game, and even a physical design sheet of the game's spritework (since everything is drawn on paper). We have even more, so you should most definitely check it out! We project that…
- Our Kickstarter Campaign + Speedrun Mode update (V0.6) - 26 August 2023
The time is nigh! After a long, arduous period; with much anxiety, we at Chiaroscuro are announcing our KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN! Our Kickstarter offers a lot of great goodies for our supporters, including a discount on the game, and greater discounts on whatever content the game provides in the future. Furthermore, we have rewards for the digital release of art books, soundtracks -- and a physical reward consisting of the actual game's design pages (This is a big deal since the entire game's sprite work is drawn on paper with pencil). In other news, we've released Version 0.6 for the demo! This features a fair amount of small bug fixes, but the pièce de résistance is our new SPEEDRUN MODE The speedrun mode can be toggled via the pause menu at any time, we recommend toggling it at the start of a game, signifying a run. The mode toggles an in-game timer, and there's a "reset" option which qu…
- The Definitive Demo Release! - 31 July 2023
Odyssey of Dremid'ir has been in development for longer than two years, and has been (bearably playable) for about half of that time. In that period, we've now released 5 major demo version updates, of which we are pleased to announce that THIS is the most definitive version, and what you can largely anticipate the full game (more or less) controlling like. Before going further into what our next step is about, let us quickly cap what's inside the Version 0.5 update: Menu Overhauls including: Better allocation of stats (exp, items, etc) Equipment now has a layout, showing what's worn Attributes/Abilities (and exp) are now represented by icons Abilities that are unavailable/locked are now darkened There's now a new mouse cursor! Gear now displays an icon for who can wear it (Warrior/Ranger/Spellcaster) Several reworked particle effects New particle system for when landing attacks/spells…
