  • Bionic Commando dev Grin worked on Strider reboot, Streets of Rage remake - 21 February 2012

The developer behind Bionic Commando, Wanted and Terminator: Salvation worked on a Strider reboot and a Streets of Rage remake before it closed down. Spanish website AnaitGames , which is run by our friends at Eurogamer.es , was told of the cancelled projects by sources at Grin Barcelona, the satellite studio of Swedish developer Grin, which closed its doors in 2009. Artwork, screenshots and videos of a raft of cancelled Grin games have been released. Perhaps most eye-catching is a CGI teaser trailer of the Strider reboot. Grin Barcelona helped with Strider, developing assets for the first prototype of the game. The art team made the teaser video, below, with the help of animation studio 23Lunes. Strider was to be a reboot similar to PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 Bionic Commando reboot Grin made for Capcom for release in 2009. The "Snow Teaser", below, is for a "video game project" with "no name…

  • Capcom undecided about PSN DRM - 30 September 2011

Whether Capcom will continue to use DRM on PSN games hasn't been decided, Christian Svensson informed Eurogamer. The PSN DRM requires a constant internet connection in order to play a game. Final Fight: Double Impact and Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 both opted for the anti-game-sharing protection. But Street Fighter 3: Third Strike was DRM-free. "Sony has a form of network DRM that we have chosen to use on a couple of titles, really as much as an experiment as anything else, to see what the impact was," Capcom's US vice president Christian Svensson told Eurogamer. "Inconclusive, frankly," he said of the results. "As far as we can tell, it neither helped nor hindered us. "We continue to look at it on a case by case basis." That's that solved, then. • EU Playstation Store update 9th March - 9 March 2011

The PlayStation Store has been refreshed but will be taken down for maintenance at 4.05pm UK time today. It won't be up and running again until 3am tomorrow morning. Nevertheless, those fast enough have access to a single-player MotorStorm Apocalypse demo. Eurogamer's MotorStorm Apocalypse review was published this morning, the racing game scoring 8/10. "It works because it's not subtle. Not much about Apocalypse is, from the crushing orchestral dubstep soundtrack, through the astounding visual assault of bounding cars, flying masonry, landslides, dust clouds, twisters and moody, filtered light, to its sheer breakneck speed," judged Oli Welsh. There's a demo of Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 as well as free trials of Explodemon! and Telltale's Back to the Future episode series. Downloadable content arrives this week for LittleBigPlanet 2 (animal costumes), Homefront, Need for Speed: Hot Pani…

  • Why Would a Game With No Online Play Require an Online Connection? - 3 February 2011

For some, the inclusion of DRM - "digital rights management" which prevents copying - is a provocative act. That makes requiring an online check-in for a game with no online component, like Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2, both perplexing and obnoxious. PlayStation 3 owners buying the sequel to Capcom's show-stealing hit of 2008 were greeted with the message that "you must log-in to the PlayStation Network each time to play the game." Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2 has no online multiplayer component - unless you're counting the leaderboards for the game's challenge rooms. So the requirement, though Capcom first implemented it a year ago, is purely an anti-piracy move. The question is: How exactly does one pirate a console game acquired from a download service? The answer is, it's not piracy - not by the traditional definition covering piracy in PC gaming, or on illegally modified consoles. But…

  • Scads Of Gameplay In This Bionic Commando 2: Rearmed Video - 4 December 2010

Gametrailers got a three-minute look at Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2 due early next year from Capcom. Packed with gameplay, fans should get a good idea of the game's innovative new features which, of course, include jumping. Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2 will release sometime before the end of march on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.

  • Melt Down The Megacopter In Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 - 11 November 2010

This is how you bring down the Megacopter in Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 - hang on its undercarriage, blast away at the engines and then - jump on a plunger so it shits out a clown car? Well alright. That's one way to finish off a boss in BCR2. Capcom released the following gallery o' images and characters, along with 90 seconds of straight gameplay, set to the beats of Simon Viklund, who did the original's outstanding soundtrack. BCR2 is due sometime early next year.

  • Snag Final Fight's Awesome Remixed Soundtrack - 17 April 2010

Not only that, you can snag Viklund's take on the songs for Magic Sword , also featured in Double Impact . There are 46 tracks in all. If it were up to me, I'd keep revisiting 1980s and 1990s projects just so Viklund could update their music. True, he's working with established themes rather than original compositions. But as a work that strikes a balance between being evocative of the source material while still being unique in its own right, I don't know of a better composer. These 8-bit anthems are no small part of our nostalgia for classic game franchises and given publishers' instinct to reboot them, a guy like Viklund would be essential. He's the only one I know doing this sort of thing right now. Final Fight Double Impact Soundtrack

  • Bionic Commando Rearmed Makers Get 1Up With New Studio - 16 April 2010

The Swedish game makers behind Bionic Commando Rearmed are back with a new studio and new unannounced game. Grin, the studio behind Bionic Commando and Bionic Commando Rearmed, closed shop forever in 2009, but the team that worked on Bionic Commando Rearmed at the studio came back together to form Might&Delight. "Some argue that there is one of Grins many later releases that stands out; Bionic Commando Rearmed," the team wrote in a press release today. "That´s no accident. That was us." "We are proud to announce that we will continue to explore the wonderful collaboration that led to Bionic Commando Rearmed. Our brand new studio Might&Delight, located in Stockholm Sweden, opens its doors for business today!" Might&Delight say they are working on a new unannounced game, one that it sounds like will be a retro. "It´s no secret we love retro, they write. "Our ambition is to continue doing…
