We've just put live a patch that fixes one error that freezes the game, and a couple of other small issues like being able to comment on the firebird if you haven't seen it. As always, let us know if these issues persist for you, or if you find anything else.
- Whew, a long day at the Nightwell Forge! - 31 December 2023
The Nightwell Beasts are exhausted! This latest bug was wicked tricky--we knew it occurred in the final chapter but only with certain backstories. So we did the only possible solution: We systematically played through the game from the beginning, choosing every possible combination of backstories in turn until the error occurred. (Have we mentioned we don't have a dedicated QA team?) But the important thing is we found it! This patch also addresses some graphics issues in the forest scene. As always, we are most appreciative of your bug reports and comments. If you have any issues with this new patch, don't hesitate to let us know! - Temporary rollback - 27 December 2023
We've received reports that our November patch has been interfering with save files and causing the game to blank out when reloading. We've rolled back that patch while we investigate this problem.
- Minor bug fix - 26 November 2023
This patch corrects some minor flow errors near the end of the game and issues that may interfere with some of the late-game achievements. We're doing further testing to look for any blank-screen errors or other additional endgame issues; if you have problems with this build, don't hesitate to drop us a line at [email protected]! We pride ourselves in our prompt attention to bug reports.

Celebrating Steam Visual Novel Fest with a new patch! Version 1.6 fixes some typos and late-game blank screen errors and, for the completionists among you, lowers the difficulty of the Glimmer of Hope achievement slightly. (Now you have no excuse!)

Our latest small bug fix addresses blank screen errors in chapters 1 and 5, as well as eliminating floating-point errors that can cause the background to flicker when the game has been running for an extended period of time. Thanks to everyone who played our demo at MAGWest!

The Wolfmaster will be attending MAGWest! Find our booth in the indie games section. We'll be bringing The Wolf of Derevnya and not one but two prototypes of unannounced upcoming games! Plus score free stickers, bookmarks, and manifestos, and try your hand at assembling our 60-piece wolf mascot, Bisclavret. See you there!
- Patch 1.4 - 27 June 2023
We released a teeny new patch today that fixes a bug where you're unable to tell Mila your backstory at the beginning of Chapter 7. We've also streamlined a few of the achievements to make them slightly simpler and verified that all achievements can be accessed in the current build. You can save Zvezdana, we promise! It's tough but it's possible!

Our newest update is a small bug fix resolving some incorrect redirects and other minor issues. Please get in touch if you discover any continuing issues.
- Patch 2 Released - 15 May 2023
Our second and (hopefully) final patch has been released. This patch includes fixes for all (yep, count 'em, all) known bugs reported by players! This patch also adds Mac and Linux builds, as well as full SteamDeck support. We are grateful to the players who helped us test these builds. The demo now features support for all platforms as well. Additional new features include a game log, fixes to scaling issues for unusual display resolutions, and graphical improvements. We've also reduced the difficulty of some hard-to-find game branches to help you conquer those tricky alternate endings. This is considered our final, definitive release. However, we'll still be listening to player feedback and will continue to patch any additional bugs that may arise.
- Roadmap for May - 25 April 2023
Hammers are ringing again in the Nightwell Forge! We're at work on our next patch, which we hope to release by the end of May. First and foremost, we'll be porting to Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck! We're so excited to make this game accessible to more players. We'll also be addressing the couple of remaining bugs, especially the error where some pathways cause a blank screen. (If you encounter this bug, please tell us where you found it!) We'll also be fixing the bug where reaching an ending may erase your current save file. We will also be fixing minor display issues, like text overflows on unusual monitor sizes. (We recommend playing on a 1920x1080 display for best results.) Thanks to all players who have brought up these issues, and please do let us know if you encounter any others!
- First patch released - 22 April 2023
The Nightwell Forge is proud to announce that The Wolf of Derevnya v1.1 is out now! This new release includes many features that didn't make it into the initial release, including: -Full save system with multiple slots -Game log -Toggle to turn off the screen flicker -Fullscreen and windowed mode -The options causing blank page errors have been removed (we're still looking into the cause of this error) -Consolidated to about 100mb smaller -And best of all, 26 achievements! Achievements are not retroactive (sorry) but your legacy save game should gracefully appear in the first save slot. If it doesn't, notify the Ravenmaster and the Nightwell Beasts will tackle the problem post-haste. For our future roadmap, our second patch will port to Mac, Linux, and SteamDeck, and we're hoping to have that out by the end of May.

- The Wolf of Derevnya Demo 0.3 Released - 5 March 2023
We are pleased to announce that we have released version 0.3 of the demo of The Wolf of Derevnya. This update features fixes to the scaling issues on ultrawide monitors, text effects, improved shaders, and an in-game pop-up menu. The only additional change expected for the final release (aside from content) is a full save/load menu.
