- 100,000 copies sold. Thank you. - 15 September 2026
100,000 😮That's how many copies of CRUMB Circuit Simulator have now been sold on Steam. I keep looking at the number and it still doesn't feel real.CRUMB started as, and still is a one-person project. It went out in November 2022 with no publisher and no marketing, just a virtual breadboard and the hope that a few people would enjoy poking around on it. Every one of those copies came from you buying it, reviewing it, reporting the bugs, sharing your builds, using it to teach or to learn, and telling a friend who was curious about electronics. Watching what you've all built on a breadboard that only exists in software has been the best part of the whole thing. So, to all of you: Thank you 😍And I'm nowhere near done. Advanced v2.0 is the biggest thing I've ever built, and I can't wait to bring it to every one of you. Keep your eyes peeled for news in the near future ❤️
- Looking for the most advanced electronics simulator in the world? - 12 September 2026
I have been super busy posting on Facebook with new developments and features and have neglected to keep everyone up to date here! CRUMB 2.0 is shaping up nicely and has the potential to become the single most powerful and accessible electronics simulator! But first to answer a consistently asked question:"Will 2.0 be free to existing users?" Yes. And let me introduce to CRUMB Advanced. To those who already own the original CRUMB (this one) before the new store page goes live for CRUMB Advanced (2.0) you will automatically receive the new version for free at release 🤩 Why am I doing this? Because CRUMB (this one) fell short of my original vision and I had some issues early on that everyone was so patient with. Advanced (2.0) started development as an update for CRUMB (this one), but I soon found that there was nothing left of the original and that it really does supersede it. Many of y…
- Real life == Sim Life - 12 August 2026
Good evening ladies and gentlemen!I’m continuing to pour my life into this next version of CRUMB and I have a little something to share with you all! It is now possible to connect real hardware to CRUMB and interact with it, in this example we can flash an Arduino R3 with the same code that’s running in the simulator 🤩Much love!Mike
- Can it run DOOM? - 5 August 2026
Just another quick update everyone! So excited for this one.I always had a vision for the original CRUMB to run DOOM, but the Arduino I simulated was not the right component, nor was there enough simulation power/optimisation to even dream about fully simulated ARM architecture for a Raspberry Pi. However that has changed and v2.0 is going to open up huge doors to infinite possibilities.Take a sneaky peek at DOOM running in the 2.0 development build, even with I2S audio processing as part of the circuit! It’s surprising me the power v2.0 has and the capabilities it can reach!
- Let's get Physical 😉 - 23 July 2026
Time for another CRUMB 2.0 update boys and girls!! This time a much requested feature from the last few years, mechanical/physical components! Even better, you can back feed values into the simulator to accurately simulate loading and other important circuit dynamics. There will be a little break until my next update, but be sure to keep an eye out 🤩
- Dev Diary - Prototyping - 17 July 2026
Not just eye candy... An entirely new and revamped wiring system will make it easier to prototype and iterate quickly layouts and connections. Prototyping jumpers offers a fast way to create connections and adjust them on the fly. Wire routing with small jumpers has had a facelift and the wires remain fully adjustable after placement! So excited to bring this to everyone! C P.s yeah... just an Uno thrown in for good measure 😉
- Dev Diary - SPI and I2C - 13 July 2026
Good early morning everyone! (GMT+1 😂) As always, smashing through development at all hours and have got a little something to show! The Arduino implementation in the current version of CRUMB is not up to standard. It was an architectural decision on how I implemented it at the time and I needed to go away and become a better developer before I could improve it... Thankfully that day has long since passed and I am proud to show off some real usage of version 2.0 and a couple of screenshots below! Night night!
- Dev Diary - CRUMB becomes Advanced - 10 July 2026
Just a quick little preview screenshot from the development build 🤩 I will post a major update soon regarding release for 2.0. But honestly, just look at that.... A proper Scope, showing trigger edges. A Multimeter with true to life options 😁 I listened to all of the feedback and settled on one thing, the next version of CRUMB is to be a world leader in electronic interactivity that is true to life! Lastly, a warm welcome to all the new users from the recent sale! You are very lucky to have come onboard for the journey and will have full access to this next edition on release! Speak to you all soon! Mike
- Dev Diary - Programmable shaders - 5 May 2026
Program shaders from within CRUMBSome people may look at this update and ask the question "why do we need this?"... And the answer is very simple. One of the core concepts and non-negotiable features that CRUMB 2.0 needs to have, is for users to have the ability to create components with the same fidelity, at the very least, as the ones that I created in the 1.x versions of CRUMB. In order to do this, I need to give users the ability to create custom materials at a great depth in order to achieve the level of realism and fidelity that I think CRUMB 2.0 should be able to provide.Jump into the video to take a look at the current working alpha build and see how customisable shaders can be used to create realistic representations of an LED. I am hoping to try and quickly cycle through feature building quickly and bring more regular updates/video updates and hopefully Beta access in the near…
- v2.0 Dev Diary: The Integrated Development Environment - 26 April 2026
EDIT: I have re-written this post due to some interesting comments that it looked like it was written by AI. Strange time we live in, but hopefully this reads like a normal person now 😒 Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone!A massive welcome to all the new members of the community, and a big thank you to those of you who have been following along with the journey toward v2.0. The patience is very much appreciated and you’re not far off seeing it pay off now 😊Progress lately has really picked up pace. Since the last update, I’ve been fully focused on what is essentially the “brain” of v2.0, the systems behind Programmable Components. This has been something I’ve wanted in CRUMB for years. The idea of being able to create and program your own custom components without ever leaving the app has always been a core goal. After a lot of trial, error, and rebuilding things from the ground up…
- 2.0 Progress Report - 24 March 2026
Good morning/afternoon/evening to everyone! First of all, welcome to all the new users of CRUMB! And a big heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been with CRUMB since the beginning and patiently waiting for the next ground-breaking update. I appreciate all of your comments, good and bad and it is taken wholly into consideration for the future. Progress with v2.0 is moving along at a pace now. Having suffered nearly 2 years of non-starts due to technical limitations found with various tools, I have now overcome all of these and ticking boxes everyday! I have had to build my own foundations up from scratch. The major news I can share with you today is that v2.0 will work natively across Windows 10/11, MacOS and Linux 🤩It's 4:13am in the morning here, so I have not had time to edit video together, but below are some screenshots from Component Editor in the latest alpha, showing CRUMB 2.0…
- Goodbye Unity, hello Godot! - 10 September 2025
After the bold decision to leave Unity and switch to Godot for development, the next major iteration of CRUMB will benefit from fully native customisable docking windows and layouts. With the added benefit of built-in code editing functionality, bringing custom components one step closer!2.0 will be released as a free update in the future to all existing CRUMB users
- Bridge Rectifier - 6 May 2025
Hello everyone, Contrary to some of the recent reviews saying the project is dead, it is not... I just happen to be working on this in my absolute spare time between work, family and living! I have had a few comments, discussions and reviews highlighting differences found between CRUMB and real world applications. It would be great to hear from you all and get your feedback on your findings! Once I have fully sorted out custom component building and programming, most of these issues will go away as I'm sure the community will be able to create more accurate components in addition to the basic ones I have provided! I've been playing around and provide an example of a Bridge Rectifier that I have made and functions as expected :) and find my file here. Bridge Rectifier Save File
- Hotfix 1.3.5 - 30 January 2025
Fixed memory leak from the C++ MatrixMath.dll when running large complex circuits. As users are starting to build larger, the solving logic runs through a few more steps to converge and one of the steps had an overlooked leak. CRUMB 2.0 update: Still hard at work, but I think I am at the point of needing to move from a solo project and make a team. I am putting in alot of hours!
- Hotfix 1.3.4 - 19 December 2024
Slight change to the convergence code of the Diode Element as there were some unique circuit configurations unable to solve, causing a memory leak as the Math Engine tries to compensate
- Hotfix 1.3.3 - 30 November 2024
More fixes! 74HC245 fixed issue with the DIR pin not functioning correctly and causing a crash due to matrix error Corrected pin labels for 74HC245 and 74HC273 Fix issue with a single remaining pin label after a component delete with pin hints enabled All the best Mike
- Hotfix 1.3.2 - 29 November 2024
I have removed support for AVX2 for the time being as it would appear that some users do not have support from their CPUs. The performance loss is negligible, if any, and should stop crashing for affected users! As always, please get in touch with any issues that you may be having All the best Mike
- Hotfix 1.3.1 - 28 November 2024
In the last 24 hours since 1.3 was released, a couple of errors have been noted. I have worked hard with several users to isolate the problems. I honestly cannot thank them enough for their patience. I have updated a few key areas, which should significantly improve stability and hopefully stop some users getting crashes when placing unconnected components and creating wire loops with switches. Circuit Math is very complex and I am always improving the detection of singular matrices or convergence issues I had managed to miss out a critical multiplication when optimising the Transistor, which was causing convergence issues for the simulation! All the best Mike
- v1.3 is now available - 27 November 2024
Better late than never... Simulation speed was always the limiting factor for the future of CRUMB. No matter how much work I put into other areas, I was always hit with the same issue and I was not able to achieve the vision that I wanted for CRUMB. Initially I had said that I had found a 2000% increase in performance with last month's development update, but that milestone has since been blown away and CRUMB is now something in the region of 20,000%+ faster 😏 I'm not going to go into every last detail of how this speed has been achieved, but for all of you that are technically minded, here is a short summary of how this feat was achieved: Replacing my linear matrix algebra with a high performance KLU-type algorithm Pre-processing all unknown variables to reduce runtime overhead of matrix operations Pre-processing allows the Symbolic Matrix to be calculated once Pre-processing allows t…
- Quick progress update - 29 October 2024
Hello everyone, just a quick update on progress! I am for the most part complete with the speed update, it is actually now possible to run some of the circuits at 96,000Hz which is great news... especially if you want to create circuits for audio/analog processing 😍 However, I am going through a few checks and tidy ups with everything to do with audio input as I want to compile two updates in to one, as I feel like everyone has waited for long enough for an update! I am still aiming to be finished within the next week or two, please just bear with me 😊
