Hello, Monsters! We wanted to share an important update with our community about the future of Monster Racing League.We set out to build a fresh take on the racing genre with a casual combat multiplayer racing game where the monsters did most of the driving allowing players to focus on strategy and combat while helping out with as little or as much driving as they wanted. - Gorge-ous New Track - 18 October 2023
Here’s a nice little addition to the MRL track lineup. The new Skeleton Gorge replaces Skull Island in the Dusty Cup trifecta of tracks as it's a fraction more dustier than the tropical island setting. It is also very pink! New track: "Skeleton Gorge" Descend through this bone-strewn, winding chasm with branching paths, jumps and a straight dash to the finish line. Also in this release: Improved ability and booster loadout unlocking and selection during pre-race. Improved ready up button on pre-race screen. Updated track junction road marking. There are some juicy updates here including a new fast-paced track, a way to have your very own real monster shipped to your home, plus some quality-of-life enhancements with full game controller support and improved custom party mode hosting. New track: "Sasquatch Summit" Wind your way up a snow-clad mountain peak in this point to point race featuring pine trees and dangerous rock walls and the odd patch of ice on the road. There’s a bunch of BIG changes in this update including a new way to refill your Nitro bar, a refreshed set of Boosters to choose from, a new sprint track and the introduction of Cups that take you on a tour through different tracks. New track: "Haymaker" Speed past farm houses and windmills on this new point-to-point, sprint track featuring multiple side roads and mud hazards. Strategic Nitro Refresh We’ve added a new way to top up your Nitro bar. Now whenever you successfully use an ability you’ll recharge some of your Nitro bar, so you can maintain your top speed for longer. On top of that you’ll be awarded even more Nitro when you successfully use abilities like EMP and Smoke to hit multiple opponents – the more opponents you hit, the more Nitro you’ll get! - Need For Speed Update - 18 August 2023
This release includes large optimisations to the GPU performance of the game, which should help the game run smoothly on most people’s machines. We hope you feel the speed! Also in this release: Many players have mentioned they enjoy the carnage in MRL but find it just a bit too chaotic. To help with this we’ve changed the max number of players in a race to eight, which in our playtesting helped a lot. We’d love to hear how you find this change. - No Loose Dead Ends - 3 August 2023
Try racing Canyon Run with a layout change at the dead-end turn! We removed the compulsory turn in the middle of the race so you can focus on the battle and not the rock wall your car is smashing up against and your monster is catapulting over! Changes in this update: Removed compulsory dead-end turn in the middle of Canyon Run. Input: enabled Nitro using the right mouse button. Fixed launch and game save issues with player names containing whitespace. Alrighty then, sounds like it's time to get your No-Dead-End party on!
- New Track: Skull Island - 25 July 2023
Accelerate through the shark-infested Skull Island, a new pirate-themed, multi-lap loop track. Swerve past shipwrecks and land dangerous cliff jumps while gunning for first place on this spooky tropical island. Other changes in this release: New Skull Island leaderboard. Can you top the charts? New in-race messages for when you hit multiple opponents with an ability. Removed the loadout timer in Practice mode. Now you can take as much time as you need to learn about the different abilities and boosters your monster has access to and pick the perfect loadout. Improvements to Party mode. Who likes to party? Your monsters! In this update we've added Party Mode to help you create and join parties for online and private races. Every monster knows that Monster Racing League is awesome when you’re playing with friends so we’ve made it even easier to find and play with all of your monster pals with our new Party Mode! You can create a party and share the code with your friends so they can easily join you. Then your whole party can play online against other monsters or play privately by yourselves - we don’t mind! In Monster Racing League your monster does the driving… but now you can fine tune your position on the track to steer clear of obstacles or line up the perfect mallet smash or saw blade shot. Along with this update we’ve updated how junctions work. Now all you need to do is steer into the side road you want to take. New striped markings on the road will help you see where you need to steer to take the side road. Here are the other changes: Doing an emote is now only one key or d-pad press away. You can also now choose your top four emotes to use from the new options in Game Settings. Don’t want to see player’s nametags when racing? No problem, just turn them off in the Game Settings. In this update we’ve added weekly, per-match and all-time leaderboards, optimised networking and made a bunch of other sweet tweaks and additions. Here are the changes: New Leaderboards: There are now weekly, per-match and all-time leaderboards so you can see how well you're racing online. The weekly leaderboard shows the top monsters for the week, while the per-match and all-time leaderboards will show you who's the king monster of the hill for each match and the overall best monster racers. Networking: Reduced networking bandwidth by another 50%. You should experience better ping times and even smoother games online. We've now reduced our bandwidth to about 25% of what it was in our first release. In this update we’ve added braking, made it easier to invite your friends into a game and made a host of other tweaks and additions. Here are the changes: Brakes: Now you can use the Down Arrow key to slow down your car - perfect for lining up Shoves and Shockwaves or dodging certain attacks. You may find other creative uses for it too! Invites: We’ve made it easier to invite your friends into a hosted game. Click the new Invite Friends button from the Host a Game lobby, or invite people directly from your friends list in Steam. Your friends list will also now show what screen or race you or your friends are in. Abilities: Shoves have increased range - bam! Greetings fellow monster racers! In this first update we've focussed on improving network performance and the difficulty of the AI bots. Here are the changes: Improved AI Bots: Bots now pick smarter ability and booster loadouts meaning hard bots are much more competitive. Winning a race is no walkover!
