  • Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists is a surreal tactical RPG journey into mythical underworlds from Six Ages' devs - 8 August 2025

If I went to hell, I can't imagine the first thing on my mind would be trying to pull off a bank job with a crew of fellow damned souls. However, in freshly announced tactical RPG Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists, that's the sort thing you'll be doing, with plenty of choice and consequence if things go pear-shaped. Thousand Hells is the latest cool thing from Six Ages and King of Dragon Pass devs A Sharp. While they're working with Kitfox Games as publisher again, there's plenty of different stuff going on, including a move away from world of Glorantha as a setting. That's in favour of fantasy pastures new, inspired by myths of the ancient proto-Indo-European, Norse, and Mesopotamian varieties. Oh, and a dash of Hieronymus Bosch's lovely paintings. Read more

  • The next A Sharp game is coming: Thousand Hells is on the way! - 7 August 2025

Hey Chieftains, Today is the beginning of the Kitfox Festival and we just announced the next new procedural adventure game by A Sharp, Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists. Thousand Hells takes place in a stand-alone fantasy world where four heroes are hired to take on the trials of the underworld. There’s lots here that you’ll like from the Six Ages series: Lots of life or death choices, mythological logic, tactical party management and beautiful hand-painted scenes. You can watch the announcement trailer here and wishlist the game on Steam now: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3794210/Thousand_Hells/ To celebrate, Six Ages 1 and 2 (as well as the rest of the Kitfox catalogue) are on sale or you can get both in bundle form for an extra discount if you own one but not the other! Happy Festival! -Alexandra

  • The Next Game - 26 May 2025

Working on the Six Ages games was amazing. It gave me a chance to revisit King of Dragon Pass’s genre of narrative strategy games. And another chance to explore Greg Stafford’s richly detailed world of Glorantha. To say nothing about working with a talented creative team. It’s also touching how many of you have enjoyed the games and would like another. We really appreciate it. So it wasn’t easy to step away, but I’m excited to try something different for my next project. Instead of a narrative strategy game set in Glorantha, it’s a tactical narrative game in a new setting. But a lot of the core elements will be the same, the ingredients that combine to make interesting stories. You’ll still direct a set of characters with their own personalities and goals. Mythology is still at the heart of the game, which will draw on some of our oldest epics. This will help give the stories layers of…

  • 20% off, and Eurogamer learns how to stop save-scumming - 27 June 2024

Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out might be one of the darkest games in the 2024 Steam Summer Sale, with all-too-relevant tidings of apocalypse, climate crisis, and needs for new ideologies. But we can still have a laugh together about all of the despair, as proven by this hilarious write-up from Cedric Voets (writer for Cracked, BBC Radio, and others): "A brutal story RPG beat the save scumming out of me". The game is also 20% off, so tell all of your (hopefully not already despairing) friends to pick it up and give it a go! Happy summer shopping! Tanya on behalf of Kitfox and A#

  • Version 1.0.4 - 15 November 2023

Given the nature of Glorantha before the Dawn, maybe a destroyed clan raiding you makes sense. But it still feels off. So that’s one of the issues we addressed in the latest update. Here’s a summary: ā–¹ Clans won’t raid after they perish ā–¹ Healers don’t fight in battle ā–¹ Fixed logical inconsistencies with a blessing earned winning Ride Like the Wind ā–¹ A few additional bug fixes ā–¹ A little more advice Thanks to everyone who sent in bug reports to [email protected]!

  • Version 1.0.3 - 16 September 2023

As game makers, it’s great to see you enjoying the game. As developers, we hate it when you run into problems, so we’ve been trying to fix those. Version 1.0.3 has a bunch of improvements for both game play and the UI. Continuing your clan’s story from Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind turned out to be more of a hassle than we thought. In most cases you shouldn’t need to first manually choose the save folder (from Controls on the main menu). You should always be able to rely on your clan ring for advice, but with their advice depends on their own abilities and traits and the situation. In some events, different combinations could end up with an advisor not really contributing anything. There are now fewer of these. ā–¹ Resolving one story line should be less frustrating ā–¹ Clean up conflicts between some events ā–¹ Fixed some event conditions ā–¹ A clan can only be swallowed up by Chaos once ā–¹ Gods…

  • Release Notes for 1.0.3 - 16 September 2023

ā–¹ Resolving one story line should be less frustrating ā–¹ Clean up conflicts between some events ā–¹ Fixed some event conditions ā–¹ A clan can only be swallowed up by Chaos once ā–¹ Gods don’t award fractional livestock ā–¹ More advice for some events ā–¹ Clarified some prompts ā–¹ Fixed some issues where the UI didn’t update ā–¹ Streamline continuing games on Windows

  • Version 1.0.2 - 26 August 2023

It’s exciting to see people playing the game! We also appreciate your comments and bug reports, and have addressed many of those in this update. We added a master volume slider to the Controls dialog in the main menu and Controls screen. Many fixes related to specific situations in the emergent narrative. Previous decisions might have resulted in you being unable to proceed in battle. And several multi-season story lines won’t have interruptions that strain credibility. We also found a few places to clarify the text. And as always, we tried to improve the quality of advice. (If you don’t already, be sure to check what each advisor says during an event. I think some of the funniest writing is here.) The game has over 600 events, most of which can occur in any order. So there may be other odd combinations. If you run into one of them, https://sixages.com/resources/ has info on the best wa…

  • A Quick Update - 22 August 2023

Thanks to everyone who’s played the game! We’ve been working on it for years and it’s really great to see people enjoying it. (Yes, I read the reviews.) We just released version 1.0.1, which fixes a number of bugs that the Quality Assurance team and our beta testers found after we finished version 1.0. Most of these handle unusual circumstances, like a character dying while in a spirit-induced coma or when about to make a divination, or someone exploring their former homeland. Some related to making advice more relevant (for example, with a child king). In addition, Harsh games now start with a feud (based on our analysis of beta test games). We have a few more fixes and enhancements in the works. If you run into something that bugs you, https://sixages.com/resources/ has info on the best way to report it. David

  • A Quick Update (21 Aug 2023, version 1.0.1) - 22 August 2023

We just released version 1.0.1, which fixes a number of bugs that QA and our beta testers found after we finished version 1.0. Most of these handle unusual circumstances, like a character dying while in a spirit-induced coma or when about to make a divination, or someone exploring their former homeland. Some related to making advice more relevant (for example, with a child king). On iOS, we made sure that all achievements can be earned. In addition, Harsh games now start with a feud (based on our analysis of beta test games). We’ll no doubt be making additional fixes. If you run into something that bugs you, https://sixages.com/resources/ has info on the best way to report it.

  • Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out review: a fascinating story-generator with a wealth of possibilities - 21 August 2023

It's hard to know where to start with Six Ages 2 Colon Lights Going Out . The initial uncertainty and esoteric nature of its world has always been the series' biggest problem, as it appears to demand a lot of foreknowledge to play. But rather than memorising facts and (ugh) "lore", it's a series that encourages a different mindset to pretty much any other game. These games are about culture and myth, and how both interact and change over time. It's harder, though, to write about this entry without just repeating myself . It is a Part Two of a planned three, thus much the same as before, yet different in some interesting, but esoteric ways. Do I try to convince the unfamiliar, detail those differences for fans, or try to cover both and succeed in neither? Read more
