• Build 1.01 Changelog - 9 August 2023

  -Text scrolling would not stop if jump button was held down during tutorial sections. -Items could not be picked up if jump button was held down after landing from a jump. -Controls could be used in time between entering a locked tutorial room and the tutorial text appearing. -Locked rooms with enemies would not always unlock. -Bosses re-balanced.

• Crossing the Finishing Line - 1 July 2023

  It took a long time to get here, but we made it! You can now fight, explore, and survive in the world of GunSpectre! GunSpectre started off as a hobby project that bore little resemblance to the game you see in front of you today. Many months were spent tinkering and experimenting until we landed on this being a mostly non-linear action game. Locking down an audio and visual style also took quite some time. Last fall, I was convinced that we were near the end of development. A smaller version of the game world was completed, and we were quietly making plans for release. Around that time, we were approached by Clickteam with an offer to publish and support GunSpectre. Seeing as the game is made with Clickteam Fusion, working with them has been a slam dunk. • The Scenic Route - 5 March 2023

  Hope everyone has had a good couple of weeks since the last log. We would have shared more, but much of the stuff we've been doing lately has been heavy on spoilers! What I can share today is that we have been adding in brief scenes to GunSpectre. These will pop up at key moments such as the start of the game, visiting a new area for the first time, and few other places. They are short, sweet, and not intrusive. Typically, a scene starts as a hastily made scribble. This gives us a rough idea of how things should look and where they should go. After that, we clean it up and make adjustments until it is visually appealing and consistent with what you see during gameplay, and we get everything moving with Clickteam Fusion. • The Gentle Art of Making Enemies - 10 February 2023

  Another week down, another week closer to launch. This week, we cooked up some additional enemies for your fighting pleasure. Even though we had a good variety to begin with, it never hurts to have more, and these last few additions make sense for GunSpectre. The overall process for adding enemies to GunSpectre is pretty straightforward. It typically starts with a placeholder in a mostly empty space. From there, we work out movements and attacks. One of the fun things about this process is that we often manually control the enemy to figure out the basics. If everyone is happy with the results, the movements and attacks will be automated, and we'll give the enemy proper visuals. After that, it gets dropped in the game for testing and adjustments. • Filling in the blanks! - 3 February 2023

  Hope everyone had a good week! It took a hot minute, but GunSpectre's world has finally been filled. At one point, we had finished a smaller version of this world, but we felt that we could give you more. There are over 500 screens to explore and survive! About half of that is the desolate Surface, which serves as an overworld. The other approximate half is the Subsurface, and that contains a series of labyrinths partially left untouched by time. The rest of the space is dedicated to other interiors and some extras. It still has to undergo a series of reviews and adjustments, but it's in a pretty good place. Wandering through the desert and exploring the subsurface evoked some nostalgic feelings for me, and I hope it does the same for you. • Underworld map is complete! - 26 January 2023

  Greetings! If you've found yourself here, then you already know that the GunSpectre Steam page is live! Working on GunSpectre has been a long and winding road, but we're almost at the end. We're still putting the finishing touches on the massive world, getting the action just right, and cooking up a delicious Game Boy soundtrack to match everything you'll be seeing and doing. We just recently filled in the underworld using a custom editor made with Clickteam Fusion itself. The underworld is a series of labyrinths that are all connected, and can be tackled in any order you see fit. While we don't want to spoil what lies beneath the surface, we're happy to share a look at how this is done: If you enjoy retro action and adventure games, you've definitely come to the right place.
